Homemade Bedroom Decor?

Ally Kirk

Hey my 11 year old sister is interested in redoing her bedroom and she doesn't have any money to buy anything. Her room is going to be black & white based. And ideas of what she can make. Please include directions and items needed to make!

Answer
What she could do is save up money for a few big things. For example, I saved up for a nice duvet and sheet set that I liked. And then you can start DIY things to match. Goodwills and thrift shops have a lot of amazing things she could add into her room and since black and white are two very common colors, it shouldn't be hard to find something she would like.

Paint existing furniture all one matching color. Craft a few decorative items like this: http://howaboutorange.blogspot.com/2007/10/how-to-make-fabric-panel-wall-art.html

Basically just have fun and use your imagination. She's sure to love whatever she puts in her room if she makes it herself. Also another genius idea is if she wants a rug in her room, don't spend a lot of money on an area rug. Find cheap fluffy bathrugs and sew them all together. You can't tell they're sewn together unless you look really hard. Good luck!

Modern Bedroom Decor?

LatinaLove

So i am moving once again, and I think it's time to mature my room. I am in high school and am looking for a modern theme. Anyone have advice for wall colors, futons (if you could give me a link that'd be superb) and a new flat screen telivision? Links would be great. TEN POINTS TO WHO EVER CAN GIVE ME THE BEST DECOR TIPS!

and I kind of have a budget, it's alittle hard but it's alittle tight. from $1,000-1,5000

Remember- the theme i'm going for is MODERN.

Answer
I love this couch, it is a convertible bed, so a little nicer than a futon.

I would get 2 night stands...

This as a dresser

put your flat screen over the dresser

with accent cube shelves places staggered on each side of the tv
I had too many links, but you can get a set of 3 for $20 at target
(I would get 2 sets, 3 on ea side)
now for the punch of color

I would get two striped pillows, they bring in the dark tones of the wood, the cream in the couch, and introduce the red
This rug does the same thing...

I think three of these hung over the futon at 2 in intervals would create a very graphic art statement

one of these to frame pics of friends to add personal warmth...

2 lamps, one for each night table on the side of the couch

I think the lines of this book shelf are very modern

Hope I gave you some ideas, the grand total I came up with was $1512.42 not including tax & shipping. If you get anything from overstock, they will ship your entire order, no matter how large for $2.95. I'm sure this is more detailed than what you were asking for, and but I hope the items I pick out gave you inspiration. You can find cheaper accents at discount close out stores & clearance shelves.

I need to make this room zazzy!! I am thinking of changing the curtains, possibly bedding and all of the wall decor. I am looking for ideas and inspiration. Can anyone think of any geek chic ideas? Thanks in advance for any ideas!

Answer
Well for sure you need a 'bat signal' alarm clock. You can look up some physics equations on line and put them on a wall or on a whiteboard stuck in the room. Sheldon is alway popular for Big Bang fans. He likes his flannel plaids. I don't know if they have big bang sheets or anything but Sheldon does sleep with his infamous comforter that has the two different colors of blue (one on each side) and the white stripe down the middle so he can perfectly line himself up to sleep. He also uses his Star War sheets. Any superhero items such as the Green Lantern, Flash, Batman items are good as well. There are a lot of places on line (on eBay as well) where you can get decals of sayings that are show favorites. My niece got one of Sheldon's 'Soft Kitty' song and put it up on her wall. There are also lots of places on line that sell items (t-shirts, etc) that are like those on the show.

How do I decorate my bedroom like a teenager's in the 1940s?

Mary

I am 17 and have become obsessed with the 1940's how can I make my bedroom like that of a 17 year old girl in the 1940's.

Answer
If she was a typical middle class girl, her parents would be more concerned about WWll and survival, and less concerned about the decor of their children.
A spare, stark room, with muted floral wallpaper, perhaps in cream or pale rose.
A metal bed frame painted in a dark brown enamel, or a hand-me down mahogany wooden bed. Probably a single bed, and often more than one child sharing the room.
Basic linens on the bed. Always plain white cotton sheets. No fitted sheets. A woolen blanket, in rose, cream, green or brown. No duvet or comforter, a bedspread, usually chenille, a homemade quilt, or a crocheted cotton family-made item.

A chest of drawers with a dresser scarf on top. A small framed mirror. or a hand mirror, brush and comb on top of the dresser.

A small closet with wooden door.

An overhead light with a glass shade. Sometimes a simple wall-sconce type lamp.

A small framed picture of a religious nature, or a reproduction of a historical portrait or landscape.
