Any ideas for a vintage chic bedroom?

Q. I'm 14 and moving house soon. When I decorate my room, I want it really different and chic. I like 'vintage' style things, such as urban outfitter themed decor. I don't want a huge amount of pink. I like the idea of blues. I want one wall to be bright and the others plain. I like things clean cut and simple. Does anyone have any interesting colour themes that i could use or just any tips overall?

WOW.. i'm impressed! U'r 14 & u know what u what. Not too many do. So when u'r talking the "urban outfitter" I'm not quite sure where u'r heading. R u heading for the 50-60's look or what? As far as blues... for the 50-60 look u can go w/ blu/gr or gr/bl almost like turquoise. IF u WANT the pink, then put PINK tones as in pillows/frames/lamps things like that. I did my friend's 2 grls rooms but they wanted something brighter but I used mocha br along w/ pink & pinky/blu... it really came out kewl. The trends back then were 50's more pink/turquoise/black/white/red then moved into the turquoise/orange/browns/lime greens. I would love to help u if u want to e me. What's the best way to get 50's decor for a child's bedroom?

I'm building a house and I really like the 50's retro. Unfortunately, I don't know much about 50's retro decorating. I like it because I went to CandyTown USA a few weeks back, and I liked the sod fountain time era. I asked them what time era it was and they said 50's. Can I have help with decor?

I absolutely love 1950s home decor.

Your best bet will be going to the library and looking for books on that decor theme. Also searching the internet for retro, vintage and 1950s decor. There are a lot of pictures online that will inspire you.

Another tip, rent some 1950s sitcoms like Father Knows Best, I love Lucy, Dick Van Dyke, The Donna Reed Show, The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, Make Room for Daddy, etc.

Any of these will have the decor you are going for and may show a girls bedroom now and again.

Ive looked on ebay, antique stores, and garage sales. I didnt know if there was a nifty online store to find stuff at. Any tips on retro decor?
Thanks for the tips so far! Im looking on craigslist. As far as time periods...I dont really know. Im much more of an eclectic and just get it if it looks good (and if it matches everything) not incredibly old...I would say 70's. Just stuff thats kind of out there and unique. Im going for a city look though and some of the prints Ive picked out are of New York. I also have a few modern pieces mixed in. Im sorta new to this so Im planning before I purchase!!

i have a very vintage styled bedroom i have a glass blown irn chandileir very delicate looking. also also black beaded bedspreads with lots of vintage pillow wooden bed and dresser with crean knobs and a crystal door handel i really dont know what to do with the wall if you have any ideas! i would like it too look old and vintage like wallpaper thats peeling offf or something but i have no clue how youd do that!

Where can I find vintage Hollywood movie posters?

I am currently re-decorating my bedroom and I choose the vintage Hollywood theme because I love old movies. I am looking for vintage movie posters, so far I was only able to find three at the stores (Casablanca, Breakfast at Tiffany's and Mairlynn Monroe in that white dresss). Does anybody know of any good websites where I can find some Hollywood movie posters? I would also like to point out that I am on a budget : ) Also, does anyone have any tips for decor that would enhance my theme?

As mentioned before, allposters.com has thousands upon thousands of movie posters (and posters of other types). You can pick up frames almost anywhere, but IKEA has nice beechwood frames that can be painted.

My suggestion as to decorating is to pick a style and choose both posters and accessories that suit that style. For example, if you like Art Deco, you could get posters from movies like Metropolis, Wings, and the 1931 Frankenstein. (Posters from more recent movies like Bonnie & Clyde and the Agatha Christie mysteries work well here too.) If you wanted to go 50s retro, you could get posters from movies like Breakfast at Tiffany's, Sunset Boulevard, and Ben-Hur.

For decorating, you could paint using historical paint colours for those eras. Sherwin Williams has a historical palette, as does Dulux in the UK. Paint is cheap, especially if you do it yourself, and can really make a big difference.

Once you choose a specific era, it'll also be easier to find furniture and accessories that match. 50s accessories show up a lot in garage sales in post-war neighbourhoods - many seniors who were 20 in the 50s are moving into seniors' residences and cleaning out their homes.
