I just got a new house and wanted to decorate my bedroom in a vintage style, but with an artsy edge. I kind of wanted to incorporate a 1920s glamor style with the dresses, vanity chair etc, but also a 1960s style with things like andy warhol - kind of breakfast at tiffany's inspired. but i also wanted to make it a bit edgier, with kind of surrealist salvador dali-ish elements, and maybe some james dean. I want my room to be film-inspired, so maybe i could have some vintage film posters? I kind of have all these ideas but don't know how to incorporate them into one bedroom. If you have any suggestions about textures or color schemes that would be great. Also, I have a walk-in closet and a bathroom, so any suggestions for those would also be appreciated.

Answer
Art deco, an architectural style popular from the 1920s until the 1940s, is all about glamour. The use of mirrors was frequent in art deco design, along with rich woods, pale color schemes and splashes of animal print. The two styles complement each other, with art deco giving a touch of sophistication to the simplicity of contemporary.
Add glamour and sophistication with art deco elements. Include splashes of color in pastels In an all-white or cream color scheme, pinks and teals are the perfect art deco complements. Since you wanted to add posters, and you like Andy Warhol, why not frame a poster of Marilyn Monroe (which incorporates the pinks and teals) http://www.cvm.qc.ca/mboudreault/Images%20Jpeg/Andy%20Warhol,%20%20Marilyn.jpg
And perhaps a poster of one of Salvador Dali's prints (make sure the colors work with the other posters.)
Add crystal lamps for further glamour enhancement. And don't forget the animal print. No art deco room is complete without a little zebra or cheetah print. An animal skin on the floor, a velvet pillow and throw or an ottoman at the end of your bed.
You could incorporate a cute pewter wall hook that is reminescint of the 20s (flappers) and hang things like scarves, or sweaters from the hooks.

Either hang a movie reel clock (item 191), or to further incorporate Marilyn Monroe (and James Dean) go for the Monroe/Dean clock (item 239)

You could use a movie reel table as your nightstand

You could also hang a 3d movie reel metal sculpture (item 131) or the standard 3d comedy/tragedy metal sculpture (item 133) from the wall

The sky is the limit here!
