Re-doing my room? 70's theme?
kami kay.
I want to re do my room, and I don't really know what I want it to look like. I think I want a 70's theme. Kinda like 'That 70's Show.' How could I have a 'That 70's Show' themed room? Maybe I could put a bright, 70's couch/futon in it. If you think there are any better ideas, tell me. Links to websites would be nice. If it helps, I am a 13 year old girl who loves to read, write, listen to music, and watch TV. Thank you!

Some stuff that was big that I remember were lava lamps (they only came in orange then), beaded curtains (but they are a hazard to toddlers who can get the beaded strands wrapped around their throat, so don't consider them if you have a younger sibling), plants hanging in homemade macrame plant hangers that had wooden beads incorporated into them, black velvet posters with fluorescent pictures on them that you lit up with a black light (which are much cheaper now since they are compact fluorescents now) , big simple daisies, owls, and there were LOTS of primary colors (not pastels), and most of the hues were warm colors - yellow, orange, red, and warm green. Warm colors can really cheer you up, too. Oh, everyone painted the wood trim white then. Lattice was big. Mood rings. Smiley faces. How about making yourself a big yellow smiley face pillow for the bed?
A new coat of paint, some daisy appliques (or paint them on yourself, be creative), a new bedspread (I don't think we had comforters and dust ruffles then), and some cheery curtains, and that should cost mom and dad $100, more or less, for a HUGE change. You can make the curtains yourself - those are easy, and it's a good project for a 13 year old, if there is an experienced person that can help you.
Anyway, there are some ideas.

PS JC Penney has a very good selection of bedroom decor, overall, and at good prices, and most is decent quality.

Daniel's answer reminded me of how long it has taken for me to like mustard yellow again - it was called Harvest Gold then, and I forget what the olive green was called. I remember there was this heavy spanish woodwork everywhere too, and I hate it to this day - too dark!! And a lot of the ashtrays were these funky clay ones with wild glazes on them. A LOT of pottery had wild glazes on them. You can probably still find some of this stuff at a Salvation Army store. I still like the stuff, but it is pretty tacky, really. Of course, when I took a ceramics class as a girl younger than you, every single thing I made was made with those wild glazes.
