Family daycare providers: How do you have your homes set up?

Muse

I am wondering how other child care providers set up their homes to be efficient for both their own families and their daycare kids. Where do the kids sleep? Do you have a separate room specific for playtime?

I am considering starting a small daycare from our home. I know the regulations and know what to do as far as the business goes and how to structure a day, etc. I'm just not sure how to set up our home. For the 'daycare' space, we basically have a living room, the kitchen and our two children's bedrooms (a boy and a girl). How should I work with this space?

Anything else you can add would help. :)

My mother ran a home daycare when I was growing up and this is how she had it set up. We had a home with a basement, which was off-limits. Only the main floor was open to the daycare. There were 2 bedrooms on the floor which were off limits (these belonged to me and my sister). We kept the doors closed and usually had a gate up blocking the hallway. There was a gate blocking the staircase so no children could go down into the basement. Our living space was pretty large, and was divided into 2 rooms by a built-in, center fireplace. It was essentially an open floor plan with no closed doors (only arches) except for on the bathroom and bedrooms.

the front entryway had cubbies for each child to place personal belongings like shoes, coats, etc. My mother provided all meals so the kids didn't bring lunch unless the parents wanted them to have specific foods. We had a small table and child sized chairs in the center of the room and shelves with toys around the edges. She had a calendar on the wall and this is where she did circle time activities. The other side of the living room (on the other side of the fireplace) had the couch and chairs and was our main living space. This room didn;t have anything specific to childcare, but the kids were free to play in this room and they always carried toys from one area to the next.

We had a large backyard that my mom had landscaped so that there was a play area with pea gravel (technically should have been bark or something softer, but licensing let this one slide.) We had a slide/climbing unit here. The rest was grass. She was able to have a garden as well, but had a fence put in so the children were not pulling out her flowers each day. Be sure to have locks on any fences you have so kids can't escape from the back yard!

Hope this gave you some ideas!

What is the Sims 3 generations like?

jenny

I was considering buying this game but I was curious about whether it was any good. Does it have the same things as the original Sims 3 or what? Also, is it better than the Sims 3 Ambitions because I have that game and I like it a lot. Basically I don't want to spend money on a game that's not that great.

Personally, Generations is my favorite expansion for Sims 3. If you want to know what there is here's a few things off of the top of my head:
-Playground sets (slip n slide, tree houses, etc)
-Kid's bedroom furniture (bunk beds, castle themed set, etc)
-Imaginary Friends (if your sim discovers the potion to make them real, they could be your sims
wife/husband)
-Prom, Learning to Drive, Teen Parties, after school clubs etc.

Those are the only things I could think of right now. It's really fun and the new features are pretty nice.
