route 66 bedroom decor image

Looking at an old rv with horrid decor, mixed pattern furniture (some pink, some blue, some plaid, some stripe) with two types of floral wallpaper and faded "wood" paneling. My family and I are debating on how to fix/renovate/remodel it. We are voting on themes and the choices are: Western/rustic, pirate, Route 66, Old world/rustic, Traditional - paint all the cabinets and trim antique white and walls a medium tan/cappuccino color, or University of Texas - Longhorns. Everyone has there favorite and I have mine but what do you think? Any other ideas or themes? Thanks

It would all depend on the area and climate of where you plan on living. I live at the beach, so it's easy for me to stay with simple shells and watery sea animals. However, if i lived out in the desert, i would definitely have some type of Spanish hacienda type of theme going on. It really all depends on the colors that make you happy and ones you can live with for a few years at least. Take stock of things you already own and decide on a special piece that may be the focal point of the room you plan on decorating. It seems like the family has an eclectic taste, in which nothing is wrong with that. It would be nice to let every family member be represented. As far as the sports theme, i would use that in a small bathroom. In one of my former homes my bathroom was a Miami Dolphin theme. They're my favorite American Football team and i liked their colors. It was easy to find paint and affordable accessories.
Remember sometimes less is better and try not to hang on to too much stuff and cause more clutter, especially with multiple themes. One room should flow into the next as far as colors are concerned. Before painting permanently, hang durable butcher paper with masking tape and get paint sample from your local hardware store and try them out. see if you can live with the color. After a few days you may change your mind. However, do not be afraid of color. My living room has a dark Green accent wall, one bath is Peacock Blue, my bedroom is bright Yellow, and master bath is pale Yellow. All other areas including kitchen are a pale misty green. My colors are next to each other on the color palate.
It would be nice if you could combine the Western with a touch of the Rustic old world. It would be like John Wayne in Tuscany.
