3 year old boy, moving to new house want to make him feel comfortable, has never really slept by himself. Any ideas would help. He likes cars, he likes to build and he likes star wars
Answer
Since he hasn't really slept by himself, the most important part of the room is the bed. The best way to get him happy with the bed and to sleep in it, is to let him feel like he is getting to decide on the bedding and to make it his own. I suggest narrowing it down to 2 choices and then let him decide between them. (more than 2 or 3 choices could be overwhelming for a 3 year old) - one thing about bedding, though - my son got spoiled by our high thread count bedding and even though he loves character bedding, thinks it's cool - he only wants to sleep with a good sheets and down comforter. You know what your son is used to, so take that into account for his comfort in his new bed.
You did not mention whether or not you had a bed for him yet. My son has one of those toddler car beds. The mattress from his crib fits it. It does take up alot of room for a toddler bed though. Target has character toddler beds - there is a Disney Cars one and a Star Wars one. I got a similar one with Dora theme for my daughter and it was pretty easy to put together with 2 people, her crib matteress fits and she loves that she sleeps with her favorite character every night. The Disney Cars theme has a "room in a box" at Target that includes a table, chairs, toy storage & toddler bed. Target also has large Star Wars characters for the wall - I don't know if they are repositionable, there wasn't much description. look under Kids - Favorite Characters - Star Wars - Artwork. There was also Star Wars bedding and throw pillows.
After the bed, the next most important thing is storage and I'm not talking about clothing storage, I am sure you already have that covered. I know you want the room to look cute, but it will never stay looking cute if you don't have enough storage for toys, books, etc. It will only look cluttered.
If you set up the room with storage that your son can easily reach and access himself without help, you can train him early to keep his room tidy to save yourself headaches (and backaches) down the road. You may be able to pick out storage to coordinate with your colors or theme. There are lots of options out there. Whatever you pick out, make an activity with your son, out of deciding what toys to put where. Put all of a type of toy in one spot (like all cars in one, all star wars in another, etc.)
If the storage container is not decorated...and you have a digital camera, have him pick out a few of his favorites, take a picture, print it out and put it on the front of the storage container, to help him remember what goes in.
Toys R Us has some room decor stuff from the Disney Cars movie - hooks and a covered storage bin. You can hang some hooks at a level convenient for you, but try to hang some at his level so he can hang up things himself. Toys R Us also has a railroad crossing light that is kinda cute for a boy. (look for these things in the "R Room Decor" section)
A growth chart for the wall or door that coordinates with your room -- they grow so fast at this age and my toddlers have fun finding out every few months how much they have grown.
Try to make it fun for your son, he'll love spending time in it more if he gets to feel like he is controlling how it will look.

treehouse
desert tent
gothic
jungle temple
castle

as far as activities go-what do you like to do with your friends at their houses? how about a TV for your room? dart board? is there room for a pool table or other type of game table? how about a table for puzzles? you could get beanbag chairs and play board games on the floor. get stuff to do makeovers (nail polish, face masks, make-up, etc....)
I also recommend if you have a yard, to get sports equiptment to enjoy the outdoors with your friends-thats what i did as a kid. there are all kinds of fun things to do outside (capture the flag was my fave!)
make yoru room comfy for just hanging out and listening to music and/or talking too.
good luck have fun!
