Little girl's room DIY projects with songbird theme?

My baby girl is getting close to her 2nd birthday and we planning to replace her nursery furniture with a distressed white Provencal bedroom suite and toddler bed (we'll get the matching big-girl bed later).

I want to redecorate her room with something less babyish and more little-girly. She absolutely LOVES birds. I was hoping to do something around a songbird theme for her room, but I'm not having many ideas. It's hard for me to mesh girlish with birds, since I always think of stuffy libraries and Audubon prints when I think about bird-theme decor.

I'm fairly clever with crafts and I can draw/paint pretty well. If anyone has any fun ideas for some bird-themed projects, I'd really appreciate the help. Thanks!

Is this a good way to decorate a 13 year olds girls bedroom? Any other ideas?

I'm a 13 year old girl and I am moving to this really cool, old house and because I'm the youngest I get the smallest room. Now, because I get the smallest room my parents said I could decorate it however I want and can get new furniture. The room is a nice blue already a, which I like and will keep. The door and windows are made of a dark wood and there is hardwood flooring. I want to go to places like goodwill and get old furniture with lots of character. I want to know what I should do with the furniture. Should I get wood furniture as I described, or should I get that furniture and paint them all. If the second, what should I paint the bed, desk, dresser and possibly desk chair (I may keep my rolling one)? They could all be a different color. Any ideas of how else I should decorate it or where I could get the furniture. Don't worry about price, because I get the smallest room, they are letting me spend as much as I want.

If the furniture you get is wood, make sure to give it a great stain, that way it will give it a great rich look, as well as lots of character. If you want, white furniture is always a great color in a blue room, so by (prime first!) painting (spray paint is best when painting furniture, less drips) the white will look really fresh. maybe paint just one item, like a chair, a really bright color, in place of the white to give the room a punch.
