Hi everyone,
I'm moving into an apartment for grad school which I'll be sharing with another person. The apartment has the basic necessities (microwave, fridge, etc)....I'm making an extensive list of things I need to buy (like pots, pans, towels, etc), but can you please brainstorm necessities?
I'm pretty much moving in with a suitcase of clothes, everything else will be bought once I'm in the city. What are things I should be buying immediately?
Thanks!
Oh and the apartment is furnished so no need to buy the furniture :)

Answer
It was a smart idea to get a furnished apartment, because buying a lot of furniture can be a pain! See if you can split some of the things on these list with your roommate, and remember to organize what each of you are bringing. Here is a list of things you should get for your apartment:

The items marked with * aren't necessities and are optional.

For the kitchen:
- One set of cups and glasses
- Set of dishes and bowls
- A toaster or toaster oven*
- Blender *
- Coffee maker *
- Set of silverware
- Utensils (for a full list look here: http://ph.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100922043136AAqnSv1 )
- A computer/ laptop *
- Silverware tray (for inside the drawer)
- Baking pans/sheets
- Complete set of pots and pans
- Plastic mixing bowls
- Oven mitts and hot pads
- Freezer bags and baggies
- Spice rack *
- Spices (can be purchased once you're there)
- Paper towel holder
- Hand and dish towels
- Cutting board and knives
- Dish rack *
- Bottle opener

For the bathroom:
- Shower mat
- Shower curtain (it may already have one)
- Set of towels (I reccomend getting a small basket to keep them in, sort of like this: http://www.raftertales.com/wp-content/uploads/bathroom-storage-towel-basket2.jpg )
- Tooth brush holder *
- Hamper
- Plunger

For the bedroom:
- Extra set of blankets for cold nights *
- Extra sheets
- Pillows
- Mirror *
- Alarm Clock *
- Hangers for the closet
- Rug *

General:
- Plants *
- Wall decor *
- Clock *
- Phone *
- Extension cord for multiple things to plug in
- Ironing board with iron
- Stereo with music *

That's about all I can think of. For more ideas, check out these links:

Also, I recomend using www.Amazon.com to buy some of the things you need, they have a lot of good deals on quality products.

Good luck, and I hope I helped!

I'm 18 and looking for an apartment, what are the main necessities that I will need?

Answer
Well it depends. Some apartments come with stove, fridge, washing machine and dryer, so those, if you don't have an apartment that includes those things. Then -
Bedroom: Closet hangers, bed with bedding, television (maybe), dresser, nightstand, lamp.
Hall: bookcases and really any decor you want.
Living Room: Couch, chair(s), entertainment center w/ tv, video games, whatever, desk and chair, anything else you want
Kitchen: table, chairs, microwave, Stove and fridge (if not already there) dishes, cups, silverware, food and drinks
Bathroom: Toiletries, towels, rug, shower curtain, etc.
And there will probably be a little linen closet in the hall. idk about you but I have extra room in it and that's where we keep the cleaning supplies.
