Hi, I've received a 25k AED offer in Dubai (per month) with medical and annual air ticket for myself and family (wife+son). They are not providing anything towards relocation or shipping costs. Is this amount sufficient for a good lifestyle? Eg a 1bhk in a good area like Dubai marina or JLT and a maid + buying a decent SUV. My son is still few months old so there is no schooling costs yet. Can anybody who s lived there advice on this. Thanks.

Answer
Ok.. so in the UAE rental is now paid in amount of cheques. Not monthly like in "normal" places in the world being monthly. Theoretically it is still monthly, you just need to budget for when the cheques pass through your account. They are pretty hectic over cheque fraud and it could land you in jail.

Dubai Marina and JLT are a little more expensive than a few years back, due to the Metro stations which are located in the area.

Try checking out www. dubizzle.com and eneter the following locations (areas)

Tecom
The Greens (loads of trees, play areas for kids, pools, gyms, etc)
JLT
Dubai Marina
Sport City
MotorCity
( the last 2 areas are a little out of the way if it is the hustle and bustle you are after)

Also check out Nakheel's The Gardens.

25K is ok, depending on what type of lifestyle you want to lead.. a rock start lifestyle- 25K can be blown in seconds, avg lifestyle.. you should be fine. Careful of debt traps and wanting to "keep up with the Jones's". Try and negotiate a start-up allowance, or even better including accommodation- Some buildings don't come fitted with kitchen appliances, build in bedroom cupboards. (The Greens comes with build in everything).

What would you like to ship here? Loads of items can be bought (barely used) from community notice boards (Expats leaving). As this is the shopping mecca, have a look at Home Centre, IKEA, PAN Furnitures..

Cars are a dime a dozen and carry little resale value. It is always better to buy new, but that might require a bank loan... (Does your company not provide you with a vehicle?- Get it in your package)

Fuel is priced as 1.72Dhs/ AED per liter.

Try getting your hands on a book- Explorer: Residents guide to Dubai. This book is invaluable and gave me a LOAD of information before I set foot here. It is very informative and accurate with the information provided in it.

Please do let me know the cost of expenses in Abu Dhabi / Dubai (break up wise)?

......
Ok so heres the deal ..
1: It is nearly impossible for you to commute from Abu Dhabi to Sharjah (where the apartments are cheap) everyday..
So well a 2 bed room aprt should be for about 1000-2000 Dirhams a month in abu dhabi // thats just the average .you should search the internet for more details about vacant apartments in UAE
2:First of all you have to get a drivers licence .. which is pretty tough.. when you get one .. you should go to sharjahs Spinneys Round About they have cheap used cars over there ... Fuel is very cheap over there you dont have to worry about it
3:The company your working in should give you all the details
4:Well it depends on the school but it should be around 5000 dirhams a year ...(not sure about that since i dont have kids ...)
5:The more you eat the more you have to pay up
6:.... Just go to IKEA or something ..

.......Man i really didnt want to help you ... your too persistance .. but i like the community here thats why i helped you
