How would I decorate a teen boy's bedroom with Big Bang Theory theme? I need to make this room zazzy!! I am thinking of changing the curtains, possibly bedding and all of the wall decor. I am looking for ideas and inspiration. Can anyone think of any geek chic ideas? Thanks in advance for any ideas!

Answer
Printed pillow cases,
wall posters,
space floor mats,
BBT dvds
printed curtains,
covered books,
do something like a lil ball pit in a small container

Basically anything that is used in the big bang theory. Like what sheldon always wears. His famous quotes. Bazinga ball pit quotes.

Girl and boy sharing bedroom decorating advice?

Sierra L

My two kids. are 7 year olds and will be sharing a room. One a girl and one a boy. What are some cute bedroom sets that will go together well or were meant to be together, that will look great in their room.

Answer
I wouldn't go with a theme, I would make it colorful, like paint the walls and have neutral curtains and light fixtures but I would be sure that they each had a shelf or some kind of storage to call their own that they can have their things on. I would keep the bedspreads the same color but put pillows and little touches that are different on the beds. For example, a red ladybug pillow for her and a red car pillow for him. The ideas are endless in my head right now. I'm sure you'll come up with something great and they'll love it. Take care.

Easy Eclectic CHEAP apartment decorating?

Hi! I'm moving into my first apartment. It's actually going to be the first time that I'm going to be living on my own. It's a small apartment (not like box or coffin apartment small) and I'm looking for some tips or ideas on design. Some of my likes / dislikes are:

Likes
----------
1. I like the color black, but not as in "goth" or batcave.
2. I like classical music.
3. I also like history. I'm very font of italian stuff and the renaissance.
4. I love paintings.
5. I'm generally a very eclectic person.

Dislikes
-----------
1. Any feminine colors or pastels. I'm a guy.
2. Many people like pop music. I dont.
3. I dont like brown. I think that bright yellow should be reserved for "Big Bird".

Please, any help that you can give would be obliged. How would I describe my taste and my views? I believe strongly that I was born into the wrong century.

Thank you very much for any help!
Something else, I'm a sucker for anything elegant.

Answer
Scan magazines and decorating books at your bookstore to see if you can find inspiration there. By scanning through them you'll see what wall colors and furniture you like. You can bring a magazine page with the color you like, bring it to Home Depot and they'll be able to reproduce the exact color for you. The furniture you see will in the magazines will probably be high end, but you can get the style you want, and go to furniture stores to find less expensive ones with the same look.

Based on your tastes (Italian Traditional?), I think you may like furniture and items from:
- Bombay Company store (they have sale going on!)
Some examples:
- http://www.bombaycompany.com/gp/product/B000EB9D30/sr=1-14/qid=1158963558/ref=sr_1_14/104-6537866-5767921?ie=UTF8&bmBrand=core&m=A2Z4DUPX2Z8M59

- Ballard Design (you can order a free catalog online) -- A bit pricey, but you might want to look at the accessories and wall decor:
Some examples:
- http://www.ballarddesigns.com/jump.jsp?itemID=2503&itemType=PRODUCT&path=1%2C2%2C21%2C84%2C371&iProductID=2503
- Crate and Barrel store (Might be pricey. But watch out for sales.)
- Cost Plus (No, it's not very european.. But they have inexpensive furniture that can be used for any style)
Example: http://www.worldmarket.com/furniture/living-furniture/upholstery-sofa/Taylor-Leather-Bench/lev/4/productId/693/Ne/1100001/Ns/NEW_ARRIVAL_FLAG%7c1%7c%7cCATEGORY_SEQ_2889%7c0/N/1100039/Nty/1/view/10000/index.pro

For sofas and other furniture, check out the selection at COSTCO.COM. You have to be a member, or ask a member to buy it for you. They have traditional styles, and the price can't be beat.

Decorating suggestions:
- Put a big (the biggest one you can afford!) mirror on one wall. It will greatly enhance the sense of space. Or buy those mirror panels at Ikea and put them together to make one big mirror.
- Use "leggy" furniture. When you see the space underneath, again it increases the sense of space.
- For every room, select a focal point, and place your furniture in such a way that your eye goes to the focal point. For bedrooms, the bed is the focal point.
- Make black an *accent* color. Try not to buy a black leather couch. Looks nice, but none of us girls will like it! :-) Anyway, that is too much black. Buy sofa with a neutral color, and put black accent pillows.
- Personalize with the paintings or prints that you love. Your art and history books will also look nice on display.
- Don't settle for something you don't really like just because it is cheap. Wait for it to come on sale, or look for it on ebay/craigslist. Take your time furnishing and decorating your apartment. If you get something just because it's cheap, you'll never grow to like it . Eventually you'll decide to get rid of it and buy something else.

how does this bedroom sound?

Anonymous?

it is small, only about 10x13 ft.

i am redoing it. currently it is lime green with all white furniture, a pink and green and white floral comforter set, and a white rug.

after it is redone, i was planning on keeping all my furniture...
which is btw, a nightstand, a dresser, and a desk.

i was going to replace my white, rectangular shaggy rug with a round brownish rug from ikea. i was planning on keeping a rectangular ikea mirror with burnout flowers in the corner, and my off-white chair with studs and legs that match the bamboo flooring.

new rug i oplan on getting
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00198261/

this is the duvet set i am getting:
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80224727/
(for my twin bed) and i have a white bedskirt. i plan on putting blue and gray and purple throw pillows i will either purchase or sew myself.

i will put up a clear glass shelf above my dresser to hold my vases of flowers and books and stuff... probably. or my various jewlery stands and perfume tray...

my desk has a green stool with white leaves on it, i plan on keeping it but putting a throw blanket on top (the top is gross and dirty) and using it as an ottoman for my chair. (u will still see the green)

my curtains are white with silver grommets and i have these inner curtains:
http://www.worldmarket.com/product/white-bird-and-botanical-burnout-curtain-panel.do?from=Search&cx=0

i figure keeping it ties in my weird ottoman i dont want to get rid of. i may replace my grommet curtains with teal ikea grommet curtains instead of white, but im not sure...

i also do not know what color to paint my walls!!!

please suggest something that goes with my duvet cover i plan on getting. (maybe grey or purple or pale blues?)

oh also i plan on painting 3 black and white paintings to hang probably above my bed, and they will be of the chicago skyline, paris, and the london bridge.

cool throw pillow ideas, paint colors, and opinions help. keep in mind i am a teen girl...

ermmm thanks :D

p.s. i am going not for the "cool" thing, thats obnoxious, but i am hoping for a spa-ish or maybe just calming room...

Answer
Hi there,
I would suggest a pale Soft blue on the walls. This color will blend well with the soft grey and if you choose to add the purples as well. Also you may like to consider a Soft misty grey, or pale turquoise. In life there are always options! Even more so when you are painting.
Hmm the brown rug on the floor visually is not working for me. I would suggest that you stay within your color fields.
The atmosphere that you are setting sounds very nice, soothing and well visually balanced use of colors. The rug on the floor is going to draw the eye downward when in reality it is your beautiful rom that you want to enjoy. ( To me it is the elephant in the room and could gain unnecessary attention)
I truly applaud your dense of decor. I was not able to view the link you add for ikea bedding it shows something else. Either way you are definitely on the road of a well design decor-ed room. Happy Decorating!

We're having a baby boy and for the time being (until we get a bigger place) my 3 year old daughter and he will share a room. My daughter already has everything decked out in pink and full of princess accessories. I haven't bought my crib set or anything like that for my boy yet. How could I have them share a room and have it all tie in together so it doesn't look like one side is for a boy and one for a girl? I'm also looking for relativley affordable options, since they will probably only share for one year at the most. And my paint options are limited. I would have to go with something nuetral so I can easily paint it back to white before we move again, or maybe put up a border to dress up the walls.

Answer
Try a nature theme. Blues, pinks, purples, greens and yellows with rainforest animals, farm life or underwater life is gender non specific. These themes will "grow up" with your kids and not be outdated in a few years.

Q. my mom has said i can re decorate my room as long as i buy all the paint etc but to be honest i havent got a clue, if i was left to do it on my own i would probably just go and buy some paint, and wack it all on the wall. but it cant be as easy as that can it :s so can anyone tell me like what different things i'd need to buy and how to go about painting my room?

Answer
Don't worry! It really CAN be that easy if you're decorating a small kid's room! However, if you're doing a big makeover on a teens room, especially a girl's, it can require a bit more planning!

First off, get a theme or colour scheme. For example, you could decorate your room in a shabby-chic style or maybe a more glamorous movie-star theme! It's up to You! If you don't want a theme then just get a colour scheme. Say, bright candy-apple green and lollipop pink! This can look AMAZING! This is a website with lots of different themes. Just click on the themes in the top left-hand corner for inspiration!

http://themeroomideas.com/Victorian/Vintage-style-decorating-ideas.html

http://themeroomideas.com/Marie-Antoinette-style/bedroom-decor.html

Move around your furniture if you think it will look better with, say, the bed under the window and your desk near the door. Now buy your bedding, paint, and curtains, as these can really change a room! Buy bedding that either matches your paint or is in a coordinating colour. Look at these websites or Google around for ideas and pictures!

http://www.home-designing.com/2008/09/teen-room-ideas

http://www.roomdecoratingideas.net/black-and-white-bedroom-decorating-ideas.php

You colud paint all your walls, just one accent wall behind the bed, (This is what I did in my room! :D ) or you could do stripes or wallpaper! It's up to you!

Once you've got your basics, do the really fun part. Shopping! Bring a friend if you like and go to lots of different shops. Try to look out for...
Beanbags,
Floor cushions,
Mirrors,
Wall Art,
Cute Furniture like trunks that you can store stuff in!
Lamps,
A cool headboard,
An area or accent rug (This is quite important!)
And stuff like that.

Display medals & trophies you've won, framed school papers, photos and general treasures to personalise your room. Have fun and enjoy it and don't forget Fairy Lights!

I'm really into the whole shabby chic look and romantic with a big bed and white furniture and candles everywhere but I also love more modern unique looks such as an all white room/floor with a colored ceiling and bright decor.... it depends on my mood some days I love yellow and others dark red or black. what do I do?
or how do I make a canopy like this?

Answer
Shabby chic is fun and can be versitile. If you have bedroom furniture already,Its very easy 2 be shabby,. You will needa few things 2 get started I have a pine bedroom set, I startewd by lightly sanding, washed it all down with TSP, washed it down with plain h2o (rinsed) Took a candle and rubbed it in diffedrent areas , then painted it I used white , you cvoyuld use a lite pink or somewthing light (sorry about my typing Ive had surgery on my hand latley , sometimes its not worth the time 2 go back + fix it!!.Hope u dont mind)Anyway let yourpaint dry + go over your items with fine sand paper,It will take the paint off the areas u put the candle,Its very easy + gives u a major change.yOU CAN change up the hadrware by repacing it or paint itOr use , Some old jewlry youll have a new room in no ti me .On your mood days My suggestion is 2 have double sided window treatment,or4 yor windows only use 1/2 + a valance,or 1/2 no valance, or valabnce only.. pilloews can change any room , havce a bunch of them strewn about(2sided) undfer ur window, on the bed ,stacked ???neverendind possiubilities(againSorry about my sloppiness) Have fun with your roomn!! U say a colored ceilig?? Paint over lace,,o9r black + white cherkers The canopy ius easy!!! Put 8 hooks in you ceiling I suggest using Plant hooks. + Put r4ivets in corners of the material your using! u go girl

How do you make a bedroom for two look more grown up?

My boyfriend are finally getting the large sized master bedroom we want in our new apartment. We want to make it look grown up, so I'm looking for any tips. Keep in mind that since we do live in an apartment we can't really paint, and since we're colleged aged we're on a budget. I'm just looking for tips on colors, drapes (if any), what kind of paintings, decor, anything like that. Also, stuff we should try and keep outta there. Thanks guys!

Answer
Keep stuffed animals out.
Neutral colors on big items are always good, Taupe curtains and bedspread, you can bring color splashes in with a few (not too many) cusions. Blow up some pictues that you like from a magazine, You can either just tack them to the wall or put them in inexpensive frames. A shelf for books and some keepsake items interspersed. Candlestick lamp is always in style.

What color should I paint my walls if my furniture is black? Details inside.?

I bought new furniture, I don't have a picture of it yet, but it is from "wickes." It is black and has a glass table top on the dresser with 2 mirrors and the edges of the glass are green. I was thinking of a light green , but I feel that it is too juvinille, and maybe a darker color will suit me better. Please help! Pics would be great!

Answer
you didn't say what color your floors were, or what your style is, so that might change my decision, but -

You could go with a neutral color, like a light tan or or taupe color. You could do a faux finish like sponging or ragging over the colors to create a softer, muted finish in contrast to the bold furniture color.

Not sure if you are single or married, but if single (bcuz guys probably won't like this), you could paint them a ballet pink for Parisian decor or a soothing lilac color.

I personally would stay away from darker colors unless you wanted to do an accent wall, do the darker color (like a red) on the accent wall and make the rest more neutral and tie both colors in with your linens, flowers or pillows. This might work better in an Asian themed room.

I think the light green would be pretty, just pick a crisp green, not like a mint green color. I like honeydew from Sherman Williams.

I sent you a link to a couple of bedrooms off of HGTV designer portfolios that looked like they had black furniture and you can enter your style that you like, Modern, Traditional, Asian, whatever, and look at more that might suit your taste.

The other one is a Sherman Williams paint color finder that can also teach you how to do faux finishes. Good luck!

I accidentally broke my mirror & want to use the frame to make something pretty for my bedroom wall. The only problem is its huge! Does anybody have any nice ideas of how to use it?

Answer
1. Cover a corkboard with fabric, felt, or burlap. Frame it and use for a bulletin board with notes, photos, mementoes, etc.

2. Cover a board or cardboard with fabric or wallpaper. Frame it, and use as a piece of art behind your bed.

3. Cover a board with wallpaper, and add your name or other quotes in vinyl decals. They can be found all over the internet.

4. Create your own abstract art canvas and frame it. Use colors you like or colors you are using for decor in your room.

5. Create a collage of magazine pictures, old calendar pictures, vintgage photos (you don't have to know the people, vintage letters or greeting cards, old or new postcards, silk flowers, ribbons, vintage jewelry, etc. Mount on cardboard and frame.

I just moved into my new bedroom and I want to be creative. Problem is, I can't paint my room and I'm not sure how to fill up the walls. I want to maybe print some inspirational quotes or pictures off the internet but can't find any, so any ideas? Appreciated :)

Answer
There are many quote sites around that you could look into, coolquotes is one, but the list is huge, also, you could go to sites that sell pictures or images etc that appeal to you and make something similar in a paint program. Unfortunately you don't say what style you like so I can't direct you to a specific site, but theres a huge range of wall stickers or wall decals (like wallquotes.com.au and australian site but i like their homepage quotes) that can either be quotes or images, not suggesting you need to pay a lot to get those but you could get some ideas there, or just generally browse rooms you do like to get ideas or a theme in mind. I use gettyimages.com to find images I like but as they are expensive I just use their ideas as a starting point, then go find something similar on the net for free or make it myself in photoshop if possible.. I did see a candace olsen show recently and she enlarged a fingerprint and used that for a picture, it looked good.

For me I have a thing for black and white, london, so I go with vintage black and white photos of London, and have recently bought a large sign with just the name of Chelsea on it - where my grandparents lived, and this is the site I found it at http://15gifts.com/christmas_gift_ideas/single_bus_route_signs_blinds/11179/ to give you an idea of what I mean, of course thats english and you could be any nationality but you could easily make something like that for yourself that is relevant to you? the ideas are endless, no offense but I wish you had said what style or influences you like because I can rabbit on about decor all day. Good luck I hope you find what you are after.

How do I make the room my boyfriend and I share more "manly"?

Alex

My boyfriend and I share a room, and when we first moved in we painted it a teal-ish color that we both picked out. We love the color and it really gives the room more "life" (it was just plain white before), but I've kind of put furniture and stuff in there and he always mentions that the room doesn't feel like his room because of all I've done to it (I like quotes and pictures so I've put up some motivational/love quotes and hung Christmas lights around the room.) How can I make the room more "manly" and feel more like his room too and not just mine?

I love to be crafty so hit me with anything you've got!
Thanks all!

Answer
You can start with the colors. If you guys like the teal color, go with a dark blue and white colors around the room. You can even go a chocolate brown and light cream say in bedsheets/comforter, framing for pictures or wall decor that share the same colors.
Also, keep things neat and clean edges. For some reason, I have noticed men like geometric shapes. As well for bold thick lines.
I gave some photos below for ideas.

What are some quotes or rhymes about monkeys?

I'm finishing up the decor in my boys' bedroom - we have always referred to them as monkeys: "Little Monkeys", "Chunky Monkeys", etc.

I will be putting up a vinyl wall decal with a cute little saying beyond the obvious monkeys jumping on the bed. Any suggestions on rhymes or sayings? I'm drawing a blank!

Answer

Cody Sturm

I am trying to get a small business goin but cant think of anything, it doesnt need to really bring in loads of money, just enough to pay my needs, but will certainly take loads if came to me!

Answer
-Antique refurbishment This is a perfect side business for people who love antiquing. Take worn-out antiques home with you, invest the time and care needed to transform those old items into something amazing, then resell them at a profit.
-Auto detailing Have a meticulous eye for detail and love to get things gleaming clean? Auto detailing is probably a perfect side business for you. In essence, your job is to make cars sparkle inside and out â and many people are quite happy to pay well for this service.
-Babysitting Got lots of evenings free? Like kids? Babysitting may be a great side business for you. Keep an eye on multiple children on Friday and Saturday nights and you can earn some solid income.
-Bed and breakfast Have some extra space in your home? Turn that extra bedroom into a âbed and breakfastâ room. This works particularly well if you have a somewhat older home or live near an area that attracts regular travelers and tourists.
Blogging If you enjoy writing, find a topic youâre passionate about and start a blog on the topic. All you need is a computer, some time, and some energy to consistently write.
Cake decorating Enjoy baking and have a bit of an artistic touch? Learn how to decorate cakes and make them for special events. One of my motherâs old friends does this and makes quite a bit of money on the side.
-Candle making Candle making is a great little craft to learn. You can often easily sell the candles at local shops and also through websites like Etsy.com.
Candy making Homemade candies are easier to make than you think and quite popular. Package them in nice little boxes and sell them through a local gift shop.
-Card making This is another artistic âcraftyâ angle you can follow. Make greeting/birthday cards from scratch using your own photographs, some blank cards, and a healthy dose of artistic flair. Again, you san sell items like these through a local gift shop or at sites like etsy.com.
-Catering If you love to cook, take the âBlondieâ route and start a home catering business. Catering is a business thatâs perfectly designed to reward those who plan well and can often fit perfectly into weekends, lining up wonderfully opposite a normal workweek.
-Childcare service Many states allow people to start up in-home daycares with minimal licensing and paperwork. If you love children and have plenty of time and space at home, this is a perfect business to get into.
-Cleaning services for businesses Many businesses and civic institutions have a need for individuals who will provide cleaning services at a low cost outside of business hours. This is a great side business for those who can put in a few hours late at night or on weekends.
Collectible trading If thereâs a particular type of collectible that you know a great deal about, you can often make good money as a collectible trader, utilizing tools like eBay and opportunities to find those collectibles in the community. I had some success with this myself with both trading cards and video games in the past.
-Computer troubleshooting I had some success with this in the past, though Iâve largely moved away from it now. If you have a knack for fixing computers, this is a good place to start.
Consignment buyer Consignment shops and consignment auctions are often loaded with good deals if you know how to identify them â quite often, you can turn these good deals around and make a nice profit elsewhere. Get started by visiting some consignment shops and critically evaluating the prices on the items there.
-Cookie making Much like candy making, homemade cookies can be a great seller. Bake the cookies, package them well, and resell them through a local gift shop. Often, you can find people in your social network who will buy batches from you for special occasions.
-Dinner preparer I recently met a woman who earned quite a bit of money as a very part-time chef. Once a week, she would go to someoneâs house and prepare a homemade meal for their family, then do all the dishes and cleanup work. This gives the family plenty of together time, while earning the lady some cash in the pocket. If you love to cook, this can be a great opportunity, but you may have to put a lot of work into searching for clients.

how to stop talking in your sleep?

xxovanessa

I know this is weird but for a long time my family and friends tell me i talk in my sleep, i know this is true because sometimes i catch myself talking in my sleep "/ such a strange thing i know. but how can i stop talking in my sleep?. LOL :P

Answer
What is sleep talking?

Sleep talking, or somniloquy, is the act of speaking during sleep. It's a type of parasomnia -- an abnormal behavior that takes place during sleep. It's a very common occurrence and is not usually considered a medical problem.

The nighttime chatter may be harmless, or it could be graphic, even R rated. Sometimes, listeners find the content offensive or vulgar. Sleep talkers normally speak for no more than 30 seconds per episode, but some people sleep talk many times during a night.

The late-night diatribes may be exceptionally eloquent, or the words may be mumbled and hard to decipher. Sleep talking may involve simple sounds or long, involved speeches. Sleep talkers usually seem to be talking to themselves. But sometimes, they appear to carry on conversations with others. They may whisper, or they might shout. If you share a bedroom with someone who talks in his or her sleep, you might not be getting enough shut-eye.

Who talks in their sleep?

Many people talk in their sleep. Half of all kids between the ages of 3 and 10 years old carry on conversations while asleep, and a small number of adults -- about 5% -- keep chit-chatting after they go to bed. The utterances can take place occasionally or every night. A 2004 poll showed that more than 1 in 10 young children converse in their sleep more than a few nights a week.

Girls talk in their sleep as much as boys. And experts think that sleep talking may run in families---------------------WebMD.com

Friends relocating is delhi better or noida/greater noida?

web_gypsy

A friend in IT industry is relocating to NCR, I need suggestion for choosing the location for them.

His main work area (when required to travel) is south delhi /noida extensively & occasionally to gurgaon. He mostly works from home so daily travel is not required at all. Airtel or BSNL broadband 512Kpbs is a must.

He has kids for which he does require kindergarden school for one & a primary school for another kid. He will have his own (company provided) transportation but still prefers a good public transport availability when required.

Security is a concern for the family as they are new to NCR, getting along with people takes time hence looking for a suggestion to decide for the accommodation

Will South Delhi suit them or noida/greater noida?
South delhi rents are quite high where as its much cheaper in Noida & greater noida & they have newly built apmts with power backup & security.

Those living in greater/noida might help in sharing their view about the quality of lifestyle.

Answer
The best option is to live in Noida or Greater Noida for your friend. The construction of condo community living here is unbelieveable and will meet all standards of the West. Eg: Omaxe, Jaypee Greans, ATS Village, Silver city, Condos near the Noida Toll bridge. These are brand new condos not older than 5 years....some still being constructed.

1) These condo communities have power back up 2) Fab security 3) Club house 4) Close to good schools like Amity, Lotus Valley, Apeejay, Step by Step,Windows, Kothari International etc 5) Amazing maintainece--- meaning you have landscaped lawns, no littering, no cow,dog poop on the roads 6) Has a mixed set up of NRI's, service class and business class 7) Very broad roads in Noida and Greater Noida 8) Noida toll road connecting Delhi. Very efficent . I compare it with the U.S interstates. 9) Reasonable rentals- 3 bedroom should cost 25,000 10) International standard Malls- Great India Place
The whole place is coming up in a planned way ....unlike Gurgaon that is already too congested.

Negative- Restaurants in Delhi are better and its more happening, Family and friends living in Delhi without visiting will immediatelly think you are living in some way off place. As you can tell by people's post is many have not visited these areas and think Noida over all has electercity, safety issues. If you go for independant houses, its true for them but thats the same as Delhi too. Therefore go for Condos only. You need your own inverter and a plan to face water shortage in the summer if you live in a house anywhere in NCR and security guard.

Against Delhi- You will not find gated communities that have security, power back up, no water issue and private club houses for residents. The rentals are too high.

Gurgaon is fantastic too. It has similar condos with their own facilities on the MG road- Bevery Hill Park, Essel and many many other. Only thing is that they don't have good roads yet, its so crowded on MG Rd, the road connecting Delhi to Gurgaon. But over all these gated communities are fantastic.

But if your friend has to travel to Noida or S.Delhi he might as well choose Noida.

How can I get a surfer style bedroom?

beach themed girls bedroom
on Beach themed bedrooms for teenagers
beach themed girls bedroom image

HollyPolly

I love brands like Fat Face, Billabong, Roxy etc. and the whole surfer look but I was wondering how to get that style in my bedroom? I've only got a tiny bedroom but I'm up for any suggestions - please add photos if you can.

Answer
I would definitely stay away from creating a too cheesy surfer room. For example, I was looking up some pictures for you and there were cheap grass skirts as the bedskirt for the bed and little tiny surfer lamps and stuffed monkeys and dolphins and stuff....cheesy. To make a gooood surfer room, I'd choose a bright color that you like for the walls or maybe two as in the picture provided below. The room below has lime green and orange but if you like other bright colors better, that'd be okay too. When you look for room examples like this, I always just use the picture as a shell and interchange my color preferences, etc. So paint the walls a bright color, I actually like the blue in the second picture provided for the walls. You'll want to keep white in your room too..the molding around the room, in the bedspread, maybe the bed frame, the dresser and anything you can really. Because you have a really bright wall, you need that white to offset it and make it more beachy and light. So chose your bedspread. There are plenty of bedspreads that are actually billabong and roxy beach spreads if you want that. You can also chose a hawaiian print theme, but I feel like that's borderline cheesy as well. If I were you, I would choose a full white bedspread in a light fabric. Choosing a completely white bedspread will also make the room and your bed feel and look bigger. It's really your preference though, as I know some people love the hawaiian print. I love the wicker in the first room provided. And I love how they painted it, but I also just love wicker plain. So if you're tight on cash or you just like the wicker not painted, just keep it like it is. Wicker just reminds me of outdoor furniture you'd have at a beach house though. I'm not sure what color your carpet is or if you have wood floors. It'd be ideal if you had wood flooring and then I'd add a straw beach mat as the rug at the foot of the bed or at the side of the bed, depending on the positioning of the bed. I'd get white lamps like the one in the first bedroom provided, the two inbetween the two beds on the nightstand. Again, I'm not sure how you are on money, but if you can afford it, I'd definitely splurge on a full sized surfboard to put somewhere in your room, behind a wicker chair or in a corner by itself. I'll provide a link to a cheaper board (in the world of surfboards it's considered very cheap.) I'd also get some beach themed decor. I like the word beach spelled out above the bed in the second picture. I also love the wood nightstand in the second bedroom, you can see the top slats of it, but I would paint it white. I was recently at Marshalls and they had extremely nice and sophisticated beach themed decor that could fill up probably two to three rooms. If you have a Marshalls by you, you should take a look there. Also, TJ Maxx. If not though, I'm sure you can find really cute beach stuff online. Even if you went to a craft store and bought a hurricane candle holder, a pillar candle, and sand and/or shells, that would be awesome to put on your nightstand. You could also buy a cheap starfish and shells online too to put around your room. The options are endless!! :) Here are all the links:

I am redoing my bedroom next month and I would like to know what possible ideas I can use. I am modeling my room "USA swimming style" because I am a competitive swimmer........so do any of you have any special decor ideas? Thank you in advance.

Answer
If you really want out there. I would go for a mosaic tile floor with lanes. Paint the walls blue with lane dividers on the ceiling and touch pads on the wall at the end of the lanes. You could hang the dividers a bit lower and have the flag ropes close to the sides. This way you'll always be in the pool.
You could get a start and stripes duvet set to round it off.

I recently got into making my own furniture and decor for my bedroom lately. I realized it saves a lot of money and its make your room more personal. So I wanted to know if you guys had any cool ideas of some useful things to make that can go in my room???!!!

Answer
Try a chair covered with a soft, washed denim fabric. Use denim accents in the room, such as trimming a group of red pillows with fat denim cording.

You can even use a denim look to cover the walls. There are paint techniques for chambray and denim-look walls, which will be a perfect accent to a room with a cowboy theme or for a young lady who is crazy about horses.

Denim is a fabric that immediately imparts the feeling of comfort, so it is perfect for bedrooms in particular. Use denim comforters and pillow shams. You can even find chambray sheets and matching curtains.

Try using an old ragged pair of jeans to make valances for the windows, or dress up your curtains with chintz covered cornices.

Keep your walls in the neutral family of colors. Try soft camel beige or a subtle yellow. Pine furniture works well, or you can paint your old wooden furniture in light golden tones.

Furniture that is more casual than formal works better for this particular style. Other teen room decorating ideas to choose from are:

Garden styles. Use floral prints, upholstered furniture, floral area rugs, and balance the look with plain walls, floors, and curtains.

Casual styles. These include rustic themes, sports, nautical, particular hobbies, Americana . . . the possibilities are limitless. For example, a style could be developed around a collection of autographed baseballs, teapots, wooden duck decoys, trophies, art posters, etc.

Decorating with black and white. This style uses black as an anchor to set off a dramatic decorating look.

This teen room decorating idea is for the drama queen or king teenager in your household. Use a black and white floor, crisp white linens and comforters, and upholstered chairs. Set off the black with accents in red or warm gold, but be sure to pick up the black and white theme in lamps, pillows, picture frames, and other elements of the room.

Contemporary styles. These dictate clean lines, sculptural furniture, high ceilings, and geometric artwork.

Make use of brick walls and ceiling pipes. Avoid anything with floral patterns, ruffles, carvings, or traditional details. You are aiming for the look of an art or museum gallery, utilizing a bold, creative, and sculptural style.

Cottage style. This teen room decorating idea works especially well for teenage girls' rooms. Plaid or country-style fabrics work well with white furniture and rustic accent pieces. This style can transform a bedroom into a mini-vacation spot!

European or Parisian style. This is a glamorous style that invokes old world sophistication. It uses furniture and accent pieces from the rococo, baroque, neoclassical to the more modern art deco and cabaret designs.

Your main colors are black, white, and gold, with jewel tones as accents. Choose vintage-style furniture, such as a black or cream painted dresser with gold accents. Fabrics include silks and brocades. For fun, add a few vintage posters of old Parisian nightclubs, French train station signs, and black wrought iron shelves and tables.

The list of possibilities is endless. Find a good time to sit down and go over these teen room decorating ideas, and soon you will find yourself and your teenager working together to reinvent their bedroom.

Where can I get vintage items to go in my 'country' bedroom?

thoresby_h

I already have Cath Kidston duvet and bed accessories, and was wondering where I could find, cheaply (and either on the web or around Nottingham and York), other, suitable items to go with it. I am thinking 1920s, 30s, 40s, and other countryish things!
Thanks in advance!

What are some nice colors for my bedroom?

Hi(:
Im a teen girl and im redecorating my room. I need some ideas on what color i can paint my room.
I like pastel colors!
i also like neons, just nothing dark
Right now my room is green, so i would like to stay away from the greens for awhile.

Answer
When I was about 15, I painted my room this color, "Sunset Yellow" and it was like a lighter version of dijon mustard. It turned out so beautiful. I decorated the rest of my room to have a very light, tuscan feel. But, if I changed my mind (as I often did) and decided I wanted something different, the yellow would match. I miss that room. It was the coolest color I've ever had in a room. Also, a robin's egg blue is cool, but it's very touchy getting just the right tone. And green is VERY touchy. The room color I'm looking forward to, though, is blood red. It's bold, daring, adventurous, the decor options are endless, and it can be lighthearted with a bold front, or deep and dark, with blacks and metals. Anyways, these are my four cents. : ) Have fun. Paint is great!

Edit: Oh, by the way!!! Something I've wanted to do for awhile in my kids' rooms is this: paint top half color of choice (for them a burnt orange), and bottom half (kind of spendy, but) black chalkboard paint. Then you draw whatever you like on the chalkboard as you like, or leave it blank. . . I think it's a great fun idea.

I can change everything else, the head board the wall paint and decor but the furniture I cant change, the furniture is..... a make up table, a high boy cabinet with drawers, a wide dresser, another taller skinnier dresser, a desk that folds down to a desk and two end tables next to the bed. Any suggestions?

Answer
Go here and click on color visualizer: http://www.sherwin-williams.com/do_it_yourself/paint_colors/visualizer/
Now pick an interior bedroom scene with dark wood furniture. Write in the color Rainwashed and copy it onto the walls. The trim should be bright white as should the ceiling. Those are the perfect beach cottage colors. I've done several beach or cottage themed rooms with these colors and clients are in love with the room when they see it.
I agree with the indoor shutters on the windows or for a more polished look, white flowing sheers. Depending on your age, if you're a young person for a bedspread, something like this would be a choice of mine: http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=118756&RN=31
If older, something more like: http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=123300&RN=31
One or two nicely framed pictures, a smart trick is to go to art.com and get posters and then buy inexpensive white or dark wood frames from a local craft store. Here are my suggestions with this room: http://www.art.com/products/p12879155-sa-i2056282/fabrice-de-villeneuve-ocean-amaryllis.htm?sorig=cat&sorigid=0&dimvals=0&ui=a2a275e66cf24282b7d785b751a497fc and http://www.art.com/products/p10283309-sa-i1152391/carol-saxe-sea-breeze-i.htm?sorig=cat&sorigid=0&dimvals=0&ui=a2a275e66cf24282b7d785b751a497fc
Maybe a nice big shell set on a dresser or night stand. Not much more than that, you want to have the affect of uncluttered and breezy.

I have antique brown furniture in my bedroom and I want to re-decorate and make it a beach cottage theme?

Q. I can change everything else, the head board the wall paint and decor but the furniture I cant change, the furniture is..... a make up table, a high boy cabinet with drawers, a wide dresser, another taller skinnier dresser, a desk that folds down to a desk and two end tables next to the bed. Answer
Although you say antique, if the furniture doesnt have a lot of detail in it, it should be easy enough to sand and paint.

Answer
He needs to set it up himself or give you a Power of Attorney to do it.

You will be stationed in Kaneohe Bay Marine Corps Base. it is quite nice has several beaches, decent size commissary and exchange as well. 20 minutes away over the H3 is Pearl Harbor-Hickam base then another 20/25 minutes past that is Schofield Barracks. you also have downtown Waikiki about 20/30 minutes away. Everything is close by and easy to get to.

The military will not store anything for you at all, the only time they do that is if you were going to Europe or Asia. You will need everything including a washer/dryer if you have one. They will ship one vehicle for you to that location as well. You can ship a second one if you want but it will be at your own cost. You have to get the vehicle to the closest drop off location which is probably Virginia. it will take about 6 weeks to get there. Or you can drive it to LA or San Diego and then ship it from there. They will give you MALT (mileage) and Per Diem for getting it there if that is an option. THey will provide plane tickets from where you are to Hawaii. There is a base hotel that he will need to book as soon as you have the information. Base housing is being redone and decent but there can be a waiting list so you can have to live out in town for a little while. They will provide up to 60 days of TLE (Temporary Lodging) if waiting for housing. But if you are offered a place and turned it down then you will only have 10 more days of TLE. During this time you are also getting BAH based on Hawaii. They can offer you housing in Manana which has been redone but it would be commute each day for him of about 30 minutes.

You will get 2 shipments of your HHG (household goods). The first one is just about everything you need. THe second shipment is called express, in there it can be up to 1000 lbs but is limited to certain sizes. Like you can't ship a big TV but a small one plus a small DVD player, sheets, towels, air mattresses, pillows, etc... You can get loaner furniture in Hawaii if you get base housing and your things are not there yet.

Pregnancy will be referred to Tripler AMC which is a decent hospital.

Go with an open attitude, it can be a great time if you make it that way. Don't visit everything in the first two months. Be respectful, try food/things at least once and you should have a great time.

I'm redecorating my teenage girl bedroom and I need help?

girls bedroom horse decorating ideas

girls bedroom horse decorating ideas image

Janet

I am a teenage girl (13) and I'm moving into a bigger room. (It's like a mini-master bedroom,lol.)
I don't know the size of the bedroom but if it helps it has two windows and four walls.
I'm not buying new furniture except a desk and maybe seating.
I really want to decorate a room I will never outgrow till I move out.
Here are my questions:
1. What colors should I paint on the walls? (that matches everything)
2. What colors should I paint on the furniture? (that matches everything)
3. Are there any cute bedding out there? (preferably an inexpensive bed in a bag or quilt)
4. Are wall stickers recommended? List all of the pros and cons.
5. Are there any cool but cheap posters I could buy?
6. Are there any interesting area/accent rugs?
7. How can I organize my room?
8. Any other creative ways to decorate my room?

To make answering my question easier, I will tell you a little about myself.
I love animals especially dogs, cats, rabbits, and horses.
I am very passionate about writing stories.
I love to read, watch movies and TV shows, do art, and use the computer.
I am not necessarily a girly-girl but not a tomboy. (Though, I have more tomboy in me.)
I hate jewerly, makeup, and nail polish. (Dunno that would help with room makeovers.)
I am not into music, sports, and things like that.
I love my stuffed animals and I love candy =D

Thanks for answering and sorry if this is too long.

So fun to decorate and make a statement about you.Have plenty of shelves for all the books and stuffed animals. Iwill put some sites on for you.

What is fun about choosing a neutral color is that you can add pops of color in pillows, bedspreads, lamps, through rugs etc.

Using color wheels are fun and you can get ideas here. Start with your neutral and use the wheel to show pops of color

14 Year Old Girl Bedroom- how should I decorate?

Taylor

Right now I have about a shade lighter than baby blue walls, green carpet and horse borders, window shades, and curtains for my doors. I love horses and got my room horse themed when I was about 7 years old. My mom is letting me paint my walls and re-decorate this summer since I'm not loving the horse crazy room any more. I have light coloured furniture which I have to keep, and I'm getting white coloured carpet. I like bright colours but not too much pink, zebra prints, horses, Eeyore and I love unicorns. I wanted to paint my walls bright green and get Zebra rugs and stuff. But, I really want to incorporate a unicorn somewhere in my room. I also want to have something with lacrosse or volleyball in it along with my room. Any ideas would help. Thanks in advanced.

Answer
You could find stuff to hang from the ceiling, you could always make like collages on the walls or lettering from a store to use for quote's. You could find like blue or clear christmas lights and hang across the top of the walls to add maybe color or more light or just as a kind of unique edge to the room and you could add a lot of color if you got some colorful pillows even stuffed animals. You could hang necklaces and bracelets from the wall with either nail's or a store baught item or even the end of a rake hung on the wall works well too plus you could spray paint it any color you like and then hang the necklaces off it, you could also do little things like put colorful fake flowers in vases and spread them among the room which you can get really cheep at any dollar store or family dollar or dollar general store. There are also a lot of good craft ideas on youtube for decorating rooms and you could buy really unique and cheep items at like yard sales you never know what you could find there. also, you could probably find unicorn pictures really cheap and unicorn decals for the walls, hope this helped. good luck!

Any tips to designing a Chinese theme bedroom?

paola_agui

I'm moving to a new home in 3 weeks or so, and this gives me an opportunity to design my room the way I've always wanted. I've always wanted to go for a Chinese themed bedroom, and I'm looking for any tips on how to start with this new project. So If you have any ideas, feel free to tell... Anything from Wall decor, to floors, to furniture is welcome!

Answer
a traditional chinese themed? or are you looking for an american interpretation of a chinese themed bedroom?

either way...you might want to look in to bamboo materialed/colored things, dark/semi dark wood oriented furniture with oriental design. do not get Bonsai planet, cuz thats japanese. if you're looking into more feminine stuff...try lotus, plum (the flower), and chrysanthemum. for guys...try kirin, dragon (chinese looking ones)...or if you want (tho not necessarily recommended) the chinese horoscope.

chinese people loves the color red, but we use it more on weddings...you might consider that as well. the wall decor, you can look into asian calligraphy styled painting, a fan (hanging)...or perhaps an authentic chinese character sucha as fortune. 2 chairs/stools with a table...small end tables...chinese lantern...ceramic tea set...perhaps incents....all these can be considered as decor :D for windows you can use beads instead of curtains (like the beads yoou hang in the doorway, wooden beads...i hope you know what i'm talking about)

also, google oriental living, or oriental decorating..it'll help. the thing about having a chinese themed bedroom is that you might end up with things that are "oriental themed" but has nothing to do with chinese. you should do a little bit of search just in case :)

How can I make a red wall in a small bedroom work?

Just Help

My bedroom is 19x10 feet. I have a ledge on the wall where my creme colored upholstery bed will be. The dressers and other furniture will be a dark wood. Can I make a wall that is a red work in there? And can I do so without focusing my entire decor on that wall? What kind of things do you suggest?
Not that I dont want the red wall to be the main focus, but I would also like to not feel restricted to making it a red, black, and white theme... or having red bed linen... I kinda want the wall to stand by itself.

Answer
the whole idea of painting one wall is to draw attention/focus to that wall. if you don't want to draw attention to it, don't paint it red...
