Bedroom decorating ideas teenage boy?

I am in to soccer, cars, and I love blue

Answer
Are you allowed to paint your room and will someone help you to do it?
IF so, Benjamin Moore; Hale Navy, HC 154 is a great colour for a teenage boy who will soon be a young man. White or offwhite trim (Ben Moore, Timid White OC-39) looks great with this colour blue.
Avoid wallpaper borders with soccer balls or cars - you'll outgrow it very quickly.
To bring your interests into the room, you could install some white shelves above the bed or a desk to display some of your favourite items. (Model cars, trophies, books, photos with friends, etc).

I've seen "pillows that look like sports balls" at some of the Big Chain Stores. You might be able to find a soccer ball.

Have a look online for photos of favourite cars or soccer teams etc. or use some of your own favourite photos. Print 8x10, put photos in inexpensive frames, and hang as a group. - Great art for your room.

As you get older, you will easily be able to "can change things up".

hope this helps, professional decorator

How long does to take to get rich?

Q. Okay I know that the question sounds immature. But my parents have done a lot for me and my brother. Like they spoiled us and went out of their way to do things for us. Like once I said I am interested in music and learning how to play the violin. So he bought me a violin...in short they gave us everything and more. We are from India and moved to NZ ten years ago. He (my dad)left a good job in India so we (his kids) could hav a better life. He passed away two years ago due to cancer. We moved in a way smaller house after that. After my dad passing away, we are financially worse off. We can't use any heaters during winter time cos of bills, we sometimes don't have the money for groceries. I am studying and have a part time job but that is not enough. My mum's health condition doesn't allow her to work.
For all that my parents have done, I want to give my mum a nice, fully fenced, security(alarms, camera...) four bedroom (for all of us) house. Also a housekeeper cos I don't want her to do a lot of work. If there are such things as souls, thn my dad would also be happy. I want give her luxuries so she doesn't have to do a lot of work...
I am 21 at the moment and Working towards a conjoint of engineering and arts(planning to major in two languages). Also I will do maybe mechatronics (specialization for engineering). I will be 25 by the time I finish studying and the maybe two years to pay off the study loan.
I know it is a difficult goal and I am willing to work hard for it. I want to be successful and have a good job ( in engineering, cos it's my passion), earning a lot of money, traveling overseas for projects...
Please don't take this the wrong way, I am very appreciative of the things I have cos a lot of people have had worse things happened to them. But I definately and clearly want to be in a much better position financially.
So I kind of don't know how to achieve this goal. I am lost... Can you guys give me advice...

Cheers,
Princess :)

PS I want realistic ways, not ideas like marry a rich guy. I want hard earned money.
So I mean realistic things that I can do, steps I can take (when it comes to buying a house, what kind of job should I get so I become successful in my career...)

Answer
Your engineering degree plus language skills should land you a good job. It won't make you fabulously wealthy but you'll have enough to support yourself and give your mother a good chunk too. As you get toward the end of your degree program, recruiters will probably visit your school looking for new employees. If you emphasize that you can communicate well in more than one language you'll have an edge over someone that speaks only English in any company that deals with customers or branches using that language. Just pick the best offer you get, then live frugally.

Buying a house is something you need to be educated on. At some point, start reading articles on buying real estate so you have a better idea of what you're getting into. A lot depends on what the market is like when you're ready to buy.

Constructing a house from the scratch..need tips with interior decorating?

Lady S

I need home decor ideas. Couldn't find any help online..can any of you help me find free online websites for ideas of bedrooms, bathrooms. living room etc? Thanks :)

Answer
websites; can't help you there. However . . .

We did a MAJOR remodeling on our home. What was a super help was my idea of drafting out the entire main level and entire lower level on graph paper. I took exact measurements of each room and used one graph square as one foot, added each room onto the graph paper until one entire level on home was marked. Mark onto your paper the windows (& their size), vents, doors/doorways and even add outlets. After I finished each level on each sheet, I used a thin black marker to make the rooms permanent onto the paper. Now, these sheets can be used to determine square footage for the amount of paint needed for each room, how much square footage needed for carpet, ceramic tiles, wood flooring and even curtain sizes. (later I used same sheets to 'place' furniture before moving it and would know if pieces fit or would be blocking a vent or hiding too many outlets, etc...)
I carried my sheets in my purse for many months while making various decisions and never had to keep remeasuring). Couple years later I did a graph paper for my yard & had measurements handy again for fencing, posts, size gate needed and even for trees, shrubs, other plantings, fountain and statues.

Find a 'theme' for each room. Me - - I decorated living room in big cats such as tigers, cheetahs, leopards, lions, etc... Did dining room with seashells, including tables center piece. Did bedroom with Steve's semi and train stuff. Did bathroom as just basic plain items (neutral so he doesn't have to see 'girl' stuff like pink or flowers). Did western in my computer room. etc.... Go with what items you collect or really like and what room are you going to put these items in.

Look at the items going into that one room. What are the main colors of these items? Also, what is the color you plan to use on the floor or floor covering. This will help determine your wall colors. Use brighter but matching colors for accents within the room.

I picked a mint green wall paint for my living room and adjourning dining room with a small flowery and scalloped wallpaper border. In the kitchen, I picked white 4' X 8' panels for walls. The ones I picked can be washed and stand up to abuse. These were installed onto the wall prior to cabinets or baseboards. In the kitchen, I also put up a wallpaper border that had a plum, maroon & green tapestry. Since I had some antique bowls, jars, etc... and put these items on top of the wall cabinets with fake green vines drapping over some of these items.

You will find what works for you and what I have done to each room may not be something you would like, but hopefully, it may give you some ideas.

We did other things inside and out that saved us money such as 'making' our own baseboards, etc...

what are the most romantic getaways in so.ca?

SHERY L

secluded, charm, quiet, cozy, rustic, decor.

Answer
Romance is where you make it. Anything can be romantic, if done right. However, if you want to create a special moment with a view, then the hills or the beach are where you want to start.

Mulholland Drive is beautiful, but might be a bit dicey if you are shooting for a romantic moment. There are lots of kids up there, parking, driving fast, etc. I would hate for one of them to ruin the moment.

Griffith Observatory. Excellent views of LA, easy to get to.

Catalina is muy romantico. Dance to Big Bands at Catalina Casino Ballroom & Theatre. Dress up and return to the glamorous big band days for a special night in the Casino Ballroom where art deco murals and Tiffany chandeliers adorn the 12-story icon. New Yearâs Eve and the Catalina Island Jazz Festival are premier happenings. Catalina Island. (800) 626-5440. www.visitcatalinaisland.com or www.catalinachamber.com

Your review on Carlsbad Seapointe Resort in California?

Jennifer S

For those who have been there, whats good and whats bad? how are the rooms?

Answer
This is a wonderful vacation spot!!
Perfect location, helpful staff, across the street from the beach, beach goodies and a wagon available from the activity center, activities for adults and children!!
We had a one bedroom with a full kitchen and a fabulous view.
The location is also marvelous--walking distance to get to the Coaster to get to San Diego, minutes away to get to all kinds of shopping (Costco, outlet mall, restaurants, grocery store, pharmacy, etc...), and freeway close to many attractions--perfect!
The lobby area is also very welcoming with coffee, tea, and fruit for the guests.

BEAUTIFUL VIEW right off Carlsbad Blvd!

I celebrated an early Father's Day / Birthday here last weekend and fell in love with Carlsbad. We had a 1 bedroom, 1 bath condo. it comes with a full kitchen (fridge, stove, dish washer, cookware, silverware and glassware), and a patio facing the ocean. The VIEW from our room was AMAZING! the ocean was mysterious and deep blue, the sun was shiny and warm, the sea breeze was warm and welcoming - everything was so perfect!

The decor of the condo is a little out of date (e.g. pastel wall border stickers & mint color carpet). The bath tub is a little small. Wish there is more than 1 pool table because it is always taken. But these are minor problems and can be fixed easily.

The rate for a 1br / 1ba condo ranges from $239 ~ $359 per night.

I will definitely come back again for special occasions.
I stayed here for a nice get away while staying local. I had a two bedroom with a full kitchen and a little patio that faced the ocean. This is a real nice place. It has a club house, a gym, two pools (one for adults only) and a fun play area for kids that includes a pirate ship and a little water theme area.

It's located right across the 101 from the ocean, so beautiful views! There is no restaurant but since you have a kitchen you can drive across the I-5 to the Costco or down the road to the Ralph's. They also have a basket ball court, tennis courts, pool and ping pong table on the bottom floor.

The only reason this place didn't get a 5 star rating is because my unit was on the back end of the resort which is facing the Coaster train track (a little noisy) and we were situated right next to the club house which is used for weddings on the weekend. And yes, you guessed right, there was a wedding on the Sunday we checked in. It was a little loud.

I also hear that if you are a owner at this timeshare, you can rent the clubhouse for around $100 or $200! That is a steal! The Clubhouse faces the Ocean and the pool area. Nice location for a casual wedding.

So check on their nightly rates if you are coming to the area because this is a pretty good location. I called the front desk to get an idea of rates and I was told the nightly rate can range from $239 a night during spring and upwards of $300 during peak season. But considering this is for a 2bd/2bath, full kitchen, ocean view, that is pretty good. Across from the ocean, minutes from the freeway, one exit from the Carlsbad Outlet Mall and down the 101 from the quaint little town of Carlsbad.
I stayed here in July of 2009 with my two little girls, ages 3 and 6. We had a one bedroom condo, so they slept on the sleeper sofa and I got my own bed. While not luxurious, the accommodations were nice. Perfect for the beach. We had a great view of the ocean from our balcony and a fireplace in the living room. Every morning we would go down to the activity center and pick up a radio flyer wagon, fill it with towels, buckets, and shovels and head off to the beach. My six year old would pull my 3 year old in the wagon across the highway, which sounds scary, but there is a light so it's quite safe. The hotel had events like making snores and a poolside BBQ with live music, at little or no cost. They also offered inexpensive crafts for the kids ($1-$3), and my kids had a great time doing those. I would have come here again this year, but was unable to trade my timeshare, and this year we're at the Grand Pacific Palisades Resort, which is okay, but I prefer the Seapointe.

What would you change about your house layout if you could design it yourself?

amber 18

My husband and I are building our own home and we want to make sure we consider all sorts of different advantages and disadvantages of layouts for our rooms. I asked this question in other categories, but I didn't get the type of response I was looking for. I'm a mother of a 1 year old and plan on having several more, so I realized I need mother's opinions - hence the question in this category! Let me know what you think thanks!

Answer
Well, layouts were a BIG issue when we were looking for a house. It's the main reason we bought the one we did.

Our living room and kitchen are very open. There isn't a door, or even a doorway. Just a narrow opening between the two. It's clearly seperated by a wall, but from the living room, I can see the majority of my kitchen, and vice versa. Also, from my LR I can see into the hallway, the front and back doors, and into the laundry room. From my kitchen, I can see almost the entire way down the hallway where my daughter's room is.

This also makes my house look a LOT bigger than it is! :)

When you have kids, open floor plans are always the best. You can keep tabs on your kids better, they don't have to worry about running into things, closing doors on themselves, etc. If I don't want her to go back into the bedroom area, I either shut all the doors, or I put a play gate up to block the hallway from the rest of the house.

I would also stay away from steps if possible and keep it one story. It's safer for your kids, and for you. It's difficult to navigate steps when you are 8-9 months pregnant.

Good luck! That's so exciting!!

Layout help for a fresh new room design?

Sam B

My brother is going to uni soon and I'm getting his room. This means a new blank canvas to design my room however I want. The room size is 3.17m by 3.75m, and one of the shorter sides has a window taking up 2.3m. I am a 15 year old guy and I want a minimalistic look and feel, a nice spacious comfy room where I can chill out and have space to think. I like gaming with my friends, computing, photography and film-making.

I would like to include in my layout: my camera equipment and an iMac, a guitar(I have a wall mount) and amp, my xbox 360 and a TV(possibly wall mounted?) I also need somewhere unnoticed to store my clothes and possessions.

Any ideas for my room layout and design I would really appreciate, pictures would also help me greatly! Thank you, Sam
I would like my room to be comfy and modern style, I also need suggestions on what colour/s for my room. I am looking into any other comfy additions.

Answer
To keep your clothes, etc. out of sight you can use inexpensive closet organizers as described here (with photos) http://jansseninteriors.blogspot.com/2011/08/storage-organizing-closets-small-spaces.html

Minimalistic boy's room with photos see here http://jansseninteriors.blogspot.com/2011/07/teen-bedroom-tween-bedroom-kids-bedroom.html

For simple white window coverings I like the 2" faux wood blinds. In the U.S. Home Depot sells them, and they can be cut to fit the window at no extra charge. They give complete control of the light, so that you won't have glare on your TV or game screen.

How to decorate my basement as a teen hangout? ?

Q. Ok, so my sister and I want to make a teen hangout. I'm 15, she's 17. We need some cheap ideas. But we have to install heat and rugs! We'd like a new TV, an air hockey game, a few chairs, a table and we want to make a smoothie bar. We already have a pac man machine. How can we do this on a tight budget, like $1000 or less?

Answer
Basic Basement Decorating
A brief look at everything you need to know

There are three ways in which you can deal with your basement.

1. Remodel it. This can involve hiring contractors, or learning the techniques and doing the construction yourself.

2. Decorate around it. Sometimes it is possible to use creative and clever tricks to carve a niche out of the basement as it is.

3. Ignore it. Isolate the space or use it for extra storage.
Remodeling a basement can consist of many projects including:

- Finishing existing walls and putting up veneers

- Building new walls to frame out separate rooms

- Installing new flooring

- Adding illumination and light fixtures

The most important thing to consider when remodeling the basement is the water table in the area where you live. If it is high, then you will more than likely suffer from a flooded basement at some time in the future.

The most important thing to consider when remodeling the basement is the water table in the area where you live. If it is high, then you will more than likely suffer from a flooded basement at some time in the future.

Basement Lighting

One of the worst features of the basement is its dark gloomy appearance. However, even if you don't have the money for fancy fixtures, recessed track lighting, and other frills, you can still use some simple and inexpensive ideas to give your basement a cheerful countenance.

- String Lights and Christmas Lights: Running these colorful strands of illumination along walls and ceilings can give the room a bright cheerful appearance. For a truly unique ambience, try crisscrossing thick strings of colored lights across the ceiling in various patterns.

- Globe Lights: More subdued than the colorful string lights, these can fill the basement with a gentle and romantic glow

- Onyx Lights: They send out a soft and gentle glow which can quiet the ambience of any space, while their natural stone exterior can match the rustic appearance of the basement.

- Black lights: A little extreme, they can give the basement an other-worldly appearance.

- Lava Lamps and other Novelty Lights: Sometimes weird, sometimes childish, they can give the basement a psychedelic feel, or just add a little novel humor to the space.

Basement Themes

A theme is an extremely easy way to give the basement a purpose, and once again make it a part of the house. They also make decorating the space virtually unnecessary, as the object of the theme becomes the decor of the room. Some common basement ideas are -

Romantic Escape - The secluded private nature of the basement makes it the perfect place to build a little cubbyhole where two lovers can run away and be alone for a while.

.

TV Room - A couch, a spare television, a computer, and the kid's favorite video game make the basement a private den. Carpeting or thick rugs can help to make the space cozy. However be careful of putting expensive electronics in basements which are prone to flooding.

Toy Trains - A good old fashioned hobby, and all it requires is a sturdy table, access to electrical outlets, and the space to use your entire imagination

Model Making - The finished models can even be used to decorate the space.

...we donât stay in local hotels very often. However, my kids have gone on mini-vacations to the Island and they adore this one:

Luby Park, boat around Bird Island, or walk the many birding trails around the Coastal Bend. The memories are free and yours to keep!"

2)
If you want history then try the Tarpon Inn - Franklin D. Roosevelt used to stay there when he came down to fish. It actually was built back in 1886 out of lumber left over from Civil War barracks, and was used to house the workers for the Mansfield Jetty at Aransas Pass. It became a hotel after that and was thoroughly rebuilt after the 1919 hurricane with special reinforcing pilings that go through the whole structure top to bottom. It is on the National Register of Historic Places, and has 24 rooms, each very different but each with A/C, heating, private bath, access to the shady porch with plenty of rocking chairs, and furnished with antiques. One thing it does not have are televisions and telephones in the rooms, although for the electronically addicted they do have wi-fi. They also have a new pool.

3)
Another one my kids love is this one because of its amazing pools. It is actually condominiums so each place has a kitchen, bathroom, living room and bedroom(s). Some are individually owned and some belong to the resort so state of repair and style of decor varies. Ask for one of the recently remodeled units for the best repair (but this is not luxury accomodations - it is just a place at the beach):

Port Royal Ocean Resort & Conference Center

6317 State Highway 361
Port Aransas, TX 78373
(361) 749-5011 port-royal.com
The web site says:
"The most recreationally complete resort condominium facility on the Texas Gulf Coast. Port Royal offers a premier beachfront location with 25 acres of recreation and relaxation. With 210 luxurious condominium suites and over 7,000 square feet of meeting and banquet space, Port Royal can meet most any need - for business or pleasure. The pools include elaborate water slides (the slides close in mid-November for the winter season), There is also a private boardwalk to the beach, 2 lighted tennis courts, outdoor shuffleboard, water & sand volleyball courts, horseshoes. Fishing, golf and daily sailing adventures are nearby."

What are appropriate pictures to hang in your bedroom?

Q. I am married, and I currently have pictures of my two kids when they were 3 months (their first "professional" pictures), and my husband thinks it's a little weird to have our kids "watching" us as we are in our room. I guess I can understand where he is coming from, but I would like pictures in our bedroom that are precious and timeless. One of my friends said that they have some wedding pictures in their room...? Would that be appropriate? Is that common? I guess I don't usually go into people's master bedrooms and check out the pictures on the wall. Which kind of points this question as null and void, but I, myself, would like some nice pictures in MY bedroom that are precious and timeless, and I guess I would like my husband to also enjoy the pictures on the walls with me.

Any suggestions? :)

Answer
Start going to art shows.Pick up one piece at a time.
Or
Look at posters and frame them.
There are other ways to decorate walls.Try baskets, mirrors or what ever you collect.

You can also buy a lovely book about nature and tear out pages and frame them.Large sixzd coffee table books are often on sale for about $35-$50 .At that price you can change out the pictures every season- if you like.

my boyfriend and I are moving in together.. help decorating bedroom!?

Q. well we are getting an apartment and we've been searching for comforters for the bedroom We finally decided that the one in the link is good. See, everything in my room now is pink, so the bedroom is going to have to have some pink in it. He doesnt own any color themed decor so we decided on pink and brown. (he honestly doesnt care). Weve been searching for wall decorations that are fun (we are nineteen and twenty one), pink and brown with mostly brown (so the room is a tad masculan), and not too expensive. Please send links if you have any! thanks!

Answer
Cute. The one potential issue is comforter is dry clean only. I don't know about you but I like to be able to clean my bedding regularly. Dry cleaning is expensive. Without knowing much more than what bedding you have and that you want pink and brown, it's hard to pinpoint what you might like.
You're best bet is to create some DIY decor or check out some flea markets near where you live. I like Moroccan, Tibetan,& India styles and have found a lot of unique things at flea markets for cheap (but nice!). No kidding... wall art, lamps, bookends, folding bookcases, for $15 and under. Garage sales are good too. Even try your local Salvation Army. I got a 1920's Art Deco vanity for $80. But, I personally wouldn't buy a couch or bedding from these places. Antique stores are great too.
Here's some of my favorite sites for ideas.

bedroom decor?help?

Q. what r some cool and funky bedroom decorations for a 14 year old girl, but not pink or anything too girly, u know cool funky modern stuff, like furniture, designs anything, thank you i need help?like pictures or something please

Answer
i would definitely lean towards a clean Asian look, paper lanterns, earth tones, with pops of color (turquoise, orange, pale blue sage) using clean lines with lots of storage, with defined areas for study, sleep, relaxation, will help provide tranquility (its hard being 14) and help keep her organized. URBAN OUTFITTERS (www.urbanoutfitters.com)has an on-line catalog with a great blend of classic/trendy stuff that she, with a spending limit and help from you, can choose for herself. some accent pieces that define the tone of the room - the wall decals are awesome, and i love the flowering branch bedspread. this stuff is fanciful enough for a 14 but mature and chic enough that she'll still love coming home to it after she goes off to college

10 Tips For Decorating Kids Bedrooms
by Lee Dobbins
There comes a time when your child is no longer a baby that the nursery room decor simply wonât do. Your child needs a place that he can call his own and which reflects his or her emerging personality.

Kids rooms should be fun as well as comforting and relaxing. When you set out to decorate your childs room, ask them what they like and incorporate some of their favorite themes and colors into the room. At the same time, it might be wise to keep an eye on the future and know that their tastes will change and if you make your decor flexible enough the room can last into your childs teens.

Here are some tips on decorating kids bedrooms:

Use colorful curtains and accents. Show your child some curtain selections and ask them what they would like to see no the windows. Try to stick to bright colored window treatments as these will help the room to look sharper and cleaner.
Adding a valance can help define the opening of the window and lessen bright overhead light from coming in at the top of the windows. It also opens up the window so the room can be lit evenly during the day. Add a colorful or themed shade for privacy at night.

Consider using your childs toys as wall decor. This can serve two purposes - as decoration and to save on storage space. You can create hooks to hang larger toys and add shelves to display the smaller ones. Now if you can only get your kids to put them away!

You can always add paintings and prints in strategic places but make sure they are appropriate to the room. If you can afford it, consider having a wall or room mural painted on the walls in your childs favorite theme such as a magical forest, sports or race cars.

Decorate with photos of your childs most fondest memories. Family pictures of fun vacations or photos of your child on a day of achievement can add a personal touch to his or her room.

Depending on the age of your child, consider adding lifelike statues of his or her favorite cartoon characters or super heroes. This can add a bit of whimsy and make the decor unique.

Plants always add softness to any room and live plants help to clean the air. Just be sure you donât add any plants that can be toxic and that your child is old enough not to dig in the dirt in the pots!

Donât forget about the lampshades when decorating a kids room. Lamps and their shades can be purchased to accent any type of theme. You can also try making your own shades by buying plain ones and embellishing them with accents the compliment the rooms theme. Make it into a project that you can do with your child and they will really feel a sense of accomplishment every time they go into their room and see the lampshade.

Select your bedding to match the theme of the room as well as for comfort. Be sure to buy sheets, pillows and comforters that can be mixed and matched and donât forget to add some extra accent pillows. You can even buy curtains that match the bedding, or if the curtains are not available for the bedding you have chosen, buy an extra set of sheets and make your own curtains.

Turn your childs ceiling into a magical night sky with glow in the dark decorations. These can be fun and even comforting for your child to be able to lay in bed and gaze up at the night stars.

Donât forget to put educational and informative things into your kids bedroom. Include books, charts and toys that add to the childs education. Then your children can be learning while having fun.
Decorating your kids bedroom is a great way to give them a place they can call their own inside your home. You might even find your kid spending more time in there!
