not driving is not an option
Answer
The rules to cutting your fear pretty much have to do
with increasing your ability TO HAVE TIME
TO REACT and to react correctly given the situation.
So -- time, and confidence are areas to tackle.
To increase your time, you HAVE TO allow for
MORE of it. That means starting out with MORE!
Very simple. If you are always rushing to get
somewhere, you need to examine your commitments
and cut where you are over-booking yourself.
It can be done more than most people think.
FIND WAYS NOT TO HAVE TO DRIVE, OR NOT
TO HAVE TO DRIVE AS OFTEN, TO DO THE
SAME TASK!! Do banking online, mail bills,
or pay by phone, cut back to one "errand day"
a week (Thursday is a good one, if you can
manage it.) Stay OFF the roads as much as
possible during rush hours.
FIND "TIME TRICKS" to help you. For years and
years, the clock in my bedroom was set 15 minutes
LATER than the real time, and my watch, and the
clock in my car were both set 5 minutes late.
I was almost never late anywhere.
If you shop a lot, stop. If you visit a lot, call or email,
if your kids are always needing rides, ask yourself
why that is... if you or they are involved in too many
activities, either scale them back. or arrange other transportation. Carpool, in other words.
Buddy driving is good as well. If you have
a bff and you trust their driving -- let them drive
one time, you the next... If you REALLY feel comfortable
with someone's driving, pay attention, find out why
and teach yourself that behavior. Maybe they are
always 5 miles under the speed limit, or pick a
particular lane and stick with it, or both! Maybe it's
the music they prefer to listen to, or the way they
watch the traffic in front of them.Ask a couple questions. Never stop learning ways to improve your own driving "pleasure".
Next, now that you have some time, CUT YOUR SPEED! That is a priority!! Never exceed the speed limit, and if possible, drive a bit under it. You may not get where
you are going as fast, but you will have less stress,
and probably save gas, and avoid tickets and points on your license, thus keeping your insurance costs down as well.
It's a win-win-win. SPEED KILLS. Absolutely true.
I would suggest having a very thorough eye exam
by an OPHTHALMOLOGIST. Be prepared to PAY
big money for this. My visit is about $300.00 every 3 years.
If you are sure that you can see as well as possible,
YOUR driving will not worry you as much.
Won't be much help with concern over other people's driving, but, at least you can be sure of your seeing what they are doing.. I suggest this because the most terrified person
I know turned out to be blind in one eye, which meant she had no depth perception whatsoever, peripheral vision on just one side and so on... That sure explained a whole lot!! Like why she thought cars that were turning 3 BLOCKS
away had "cut us off " right in front of us, freaking her out all the time-- to the point where, sometimes, her preferred place in the vehicle was curled up in a ball on the back seat!!
Also, keep a pair of medium tint polarized sunglasses accessible in your vehicle. Your eyes get a lot of sun exposure and glare exposure when you drive --
sun bouncing off chrome, glass, metal and paints
is vicious bad for your eyes. Besides, sunglasses
are great to have on hand to help with "seeing through"
a daylight "WHITE-OUT" driving rainstorm as well.
(I live in Florida, where we get those FREQUENTLY!!)
Make sure you have your vehicle's braking system
thoroughly and regularly checked out by a ASE certified, Master Auto Tech at least once a year. That includes
the master cylinder, pedal, e-brake, pads, discs, fluid, hydraulics, ABS, and the rest of the system...
If you have confidence that you can
stop your vehicle, you will feel a bit more secure.
Along with your brakes, you must always
be sure your TIRES are in very good condition,
of course, because bald tires won't help you stop,
especially on wet surfaces, even if your brakes are in excellent shape.
Lastly, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS
KEEP YOUR DISTANCE!!! -- significant distance,
and don't crowd anyone on the highway, or let them
crowd you...If someone is speeding, tailgating,
weaving, doing a lot of risky lane changing, or
talking on their cell, texting, boogieing to their stereo,
eating, or carrying on a visually "active"conversation
with passengers --- they ARE NOT giving their
driving their full attention. LET THEM BY YOU,
and drop back to your preferred distance.
Distance is DOUBLY CRUCIAL if you are sharing
the road with BIG RIGS!! A loaded big rig has trouble stopping in less than the distance OF AN ENTIRE FOOTBALL FIELD, END-ZONES INCLUDED
without great risk! It's pure physics, and in wet
conditions, they need EVEN MORE room, just as
you do!! DO NOT CUT IN FRONT
OF BIG RIGS INSIDE THIS DISTANCE!!!
Also -- They cannot see you
if you are in their HUGE blind spots
ON EITHER SIDE of the truck! STAY OUT OF THERE!!
Drive A LITTLE BIT like a sharp grandma --
She got there for a reason!! :D

My husband is currently in the Army, and we are being PCS'd to Fort Bliss El Paso Texas. We are expecting our first child, so we are looking for move into a town home or luxury apartment, 2-3 bedrooms, nothing more then 1100 a month. We prefer a place that is newer, with good reviews. Can anyone help??
Answer
My name is Nichole Williams-Dixon! My husband and I are moving to El Paso Tx on April 24th 2011. We are moving to this Military commuity called Van Horne Estates. It is a 2 bedroom 1 bath apartment 980 square feet for $795.00 a month. This is brand new and is 10 minutes away from Fort Bliss. They also have allotments so they can split the rent up in 2 payments 1st and 15th.
My husabnd and I are comming from a 4 bedroom house in Georgia so everything is going in storage. This community has a swimming pool, kids playground, tennis court and other amentites. It is an all Military!
what you have to understand is that we have access to the base, so many of your amentites are there and you don't have to get that in an apartment
Below is the correspondance that I was sent: You can call me at 678-431-7412
Hi Nicole,
It was a pleasure speaking with you this Morning! Here is the info we talked about. Like I said we do specialize in Military housing. One major perk that we offer is that we will set up an allotment for you, which means you never have to worry about late fees and instead of having to write one big check the first of every month, your rent will be taken out of your husbands paycheck half on the 15th and half on the 1st which makes for easier budgeting.
We are a brand new community currently being developed and we are now pre-leasing for the end of May and later. So you would be the very first person to live in your new apartment. Brand new carpet, appliances, everything! Our 2 bedroom 1 bath apartments start at $795 - $805 a month. These 2 bedroom apartments are on the 2nd and 3rd floor, the price difference is because the $795 homes are on the interior and $805 are the exterior apartments (corner apartments) which means a little more privacy and some extra windows. Our 2 bedrooms on the 1st floor are $860 for an interior apartment and $870 for the exterior apartments. There are washer and dryer connections on ALL 1st floor apartments and laundry facilities on the 1st and 3rd floor of each building. We will pay for your water, sewer and trash leaving you only with the electric!
The community itself will have two parks complete with picnic areas, BBQ grills and Playground areas. We will also have a volleyball swimming pool for the HOT summer days :) We are a pet friendly community! We do have some breed and weight restrictions but your Maltese would be more than welcome with us. We do ask for a non-refundable pet registration fee for EACH pet of $300 and a $30 a month pet fee added to your monthly rent.
We DO have a website, here you can view photos of our property under construction, what our apartments will look like once completed and also download all of the necessary Pre-Lease Paperwork. To Pre-Lease all you would need is to apply with the $25 application fee and a Pre-Lease fee of $200 would hold the apartment for you: VanHorneEstates!
The security deposit ranges from $99 to One Months Rent, and that is based on a combination of your employment, rental and credit history.
I would also like to mention that we do require all residents to have renters insurance to protect your personal belongings and to protect all of our residents. We can provide it for you or you have the option of adding that to your current insurance policy or through USAA.
I know size and storing your household goods is a concern, so here is also the link to the Storage facility just up the street from our community. Like I said, they provide our residents with one month free rent and offer great military discounts, http://www.suncity-selfstorage.com/. Please feel free to call me or email me anytime with questions about our community, the post or El Paso :)
Sincere Thanks,
Autumn Watson
