Any ideas for a vintage chic bedroom?

bedroom decor vintage image
Q. I'm 14 and moving house soon. When I decorate my room, I want it really different and chic. I like 'vintage' style things, such as urban outfitter themed decor. I don't want a huge amount of pink. I like the idea of blues. I want one wall to be bright and the others plain. I like things clean cut and simple. Does anyone have any interesting colour themes that i could use or just any tips overall?

Answer
WOW.. i'm impressed! U'r 14 & u know what u what. Not too many do. So when u'r talking the "urban outfitter" I'm not quite sure where u'r heading. R u heading for the 50-60's look or what? As far as blues... for the 50-60 look u can go w/ blu/gr or gr/bl almost like turquoise. IF u WANT the pink, then put PINK tones as in pillows/frames/lamps things like that. I did my friend's 2 grls rooms but they wanted something brighter but I used mocha br along w/ pink & pinky/blu... it really came out kewl. The trends back then were 50's more pink/turquoise/black/white/red then moved into the turquoise/orange/browns/lime greens. I would love to help u if u want to e me. (kadullade@yahoo.com) I love decorating esp for kids/teens.

What's the best way to get 50's decor for a child's bedroom?

Faith Rein

I'm building a house and I really like the 50's retro. Unfortunately, I don't know much about 50's retro decorating. I like it because I went to CandyTown USA a few weeks back, and I liked the sod fountain time era. I asked them what time era it was and they said 50's. Can I have help with decor?

Answer
I absolutely love 1950s home decor.

Your best bet will be going to the library and looking for books on that decor theme. Also searching the internet for retro, vintage and 1950s decor. There are a lot of pictures online that will inspire you.

Another tip, rent some 1950s sitcoms like Father Knows Best, I love Lucy, Dick Van Dyke, The Donna Reed Show, The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, Make Room for Daddy, etc.

Any of these will have the decor you are going for and may show a girls bedroom now and again.

Good luck!

Aleigh!

Hey guys. I am currently revamping my bedroom decor. I already have a gorgeous bedspread that is yellow and light grey but it's just too monotone and difficult to find accesorires. I'm thinking of throwing in another color like a teal or orange. Or will it be too much? I just don't know. Help!

Answer
Teal might be too dark/too much. Why not try a pale to medium aqua or lavender or lilac?

Single Guy: Any ideas for a bedroom decor- masculine but sexy?

jnbankert

Hi,

Any tips for how to decorate a small bedroom for a single guy who wants the room to have an exotic, but simple theme thats kinda hot and intimate for female visitores???

Thanks
also what about a bed frame which is more sexy wood or iron (iron could obviously be more fun) use your imagination

Answer
Put away the "lost & found" box. The one with all the panties, lipsticks, and abandoned single earrings.

On a serious note, get some live plants, orchids are nice.

Find a piece so odd that the girls will have to ask about it. Then you can tell them how you found it buried while you were digging the foundation for an orphanage in Zamunda during some volunteer work.

We are moving into an apartment and my kids will be sharing a room. They are a four year old boy and a two year old girl. I need some decoration ideas for their bedroom that I can do in an apartment. I know I can't paint or nail too much stuff to the walls.

Answer
Use solid colored bed spreads or comforters that will compliment each other but are boy/girl colors ...
Get some stackable Organizer shelves & cubby for books, toys, etc.
and use colored fabric lined baskets or boy/girl colored crates @ Michaels Crafts or JoAnns to store the small stuff...
Put easel backed pictures on top of the shelf/cubby units for added color.

ASk them what colors they like in each room and what is there favorite toy or animal what hey are into and you can get there old clothes and make pillows, add a favor it shirt or outfit sewn on the bed spread pain their furniture. Sheets make great curtains and can cover and old chair, top of a toy box. with 2 sided tape you can take that cute animal or character cut it out of the okd sheet or pajama add it to the wall. 2 sided tapethey have fabric glue or tape for material. Some old wooden toys can be screwed to a board and made a jama hanger or coat.

New house, new room: Shabby Chic room help?

girls room decor uk
on HELLO KITTY FLOOR RUG - GIRLS ROOM/BEDROOM DECORATION | eBay
girls room decor uk image
Q. I am 14 years old and my parents have bought another house but this time it is in the city area. I am from the countryside but not the countryside with animals, cows, chickens and a dam or vegetable field.

And since my dad moved to work in the city area, the company again made him buy another house closer since it was 4 hours away. I think that they paid a little bit for the house, but it's really far away and I'm not sure I can cope. So I will show you some pictures on the website:

http://www.thehomepage.com.au/property/residential/34-tormey-street-balwyn-north/250231

By the way, this is not the real address, it's the Real Estate place.

This house is a lot smaller and there was originally furniture inside but my room was emptied since I am fussy.

My bedroom is going to be the second bedroom picture when you click right. It is not as big as the old one but it's more newer, which is good.

So my mum let me only change the furniture, add posters or pictures, add new curtains and rearrange things and I was wanting some ideas for a room.

So what I was looking for was a Shabby Chic bedroom. Go too Google images and see.

Is this possible for my room, or do you like it right now?

Give me some furniture links at any price since I don't have a limit at the moment.

Answer
Hi - first of all I must say what a beautiful and elegant house - you are a very lucky girl :)

Well, I have had a look on some sites and came across this one - the thing is I'm not sure if it is anywhere near where you are living and I don't live in the USA - so not sure how far these shops are away from you, but am sure you could get your furniture delivered.

Items of furniture for your room: Dressing Table/Desk, perhaps a couple of Dressers (Chest of Drawers) as you have a very large room. A Mirror above your desk/dressing table and a nice chair to sit at. Then it would be nice perhaps if you had a small coffee table with 2 chairs for when your friend comes to visit and you can chill out. Two bedroom night stands at each side of your bed. More or less set out how it is in the picture you supplied. With the added addition of course for the desk/dressing table and chair. And.. perhaps an ottoman at the end of your bed to put clean linen in? And a lamp either side of your bed.

Have a look at this link - this particular page has some nice desks specifically the kidney shape one and i love the pink chair too :) I know these say 'Vintage' but 'Vintage' and Shabby Chic are more or less the same in style :)

Because we can only put so many links on here - if you click on it to take you to the websites - you can then browse on that site at your leisure for each individual piece of furniture in the same style:

This site also gives you ideas for some wall art.

http://www.thebellacottage.com/furniture/vintage-one-of-a-kinds-2/desks.html

And... I don't know if you like these or not - but there are some 'wall crowns' to go above your bed - on this same site i.e. Also, have a look at some of their 'decorative accessories' you might find something you like :)

http://www.thebellacottage.com/wall-decor/bed-crowns.html

Hope the above has helped a little although when I was searching they were mainly uk and irish sites coming up as I live in Ireland :)

Answer
Start with a color you like-- blue & green colors are good for bedrooms because they're cool colors which are emotionally relaxing.

Use white (either pure white or an off white) as a secondary color and choose from browns/tans or grays/blacks as an accent color.

Any good ideas to redo my bedroom in a beach theme??

bedroom decor craft ideas
on Playroom Decorating Ideas for Girls by Sharon Arnold
bedroom decor craft ideas image
Q. i have a bedspread that's blue and brown polka dots, and i'm thinking of maybe painting my walls a light blue color, and hanging up a beach picture. but i need more ideas!!! thanx!! =)

Answer
Hi,
Yeah wow, you're on the road, for a great beach theme room.

Some other great ideas are:

-Wicker baskets, with blue or white lining inside. or small wicker trays with large and small sea shells.

-bright white trim, like white molding around the ceiling, and white molding around your doors, bright white though.

- you may not want too, but will look good, is painting your nightstand (s) and other furniature, white, the white painted look is in when it comes to beach house apeal, it's very common in virgina, and other coastal homes.

-a fun additive, is palm tree accents, although you have to like that rustic feeling, you can go with the fake or real fern trees, or dressor top plants, it will feel more tropical, and make the room feel cool and airy.

- finding a theme is important, you can go with a dolphin theme, a sailor theme, a ocean submarine theme, a tropical island theme, or just oceanic colors.

-Wood blinds, white or a matching brown. that cordinates with your blanket, wood blinds will accent the blue, and bring out a beach theme. You can also buy mini fish bowls, and fill them with shells, or beach sand, and a few smaller shells.

- bringing in a small aqaurium, will definantly give the final blow for a watery theme. Not only will a nice running water sound relax you in your sleep, the beauty of the fish alone is a relaxing additive.

- if you want to go extreme beach theme, Get some really big sand dollars, and star fish, and mount them on your wall, it's easy to mount with a simple small nail, or a push pin, stagard them a nice pattern above windows, door frames, or above your bed... or if you want purchas a netting, and have them attatched to that, to accent a corner.

There are fun lightings you can get at spencers or a fun shop, that will throw watery light effects onto your ceiling, much like an aqaurium.

also, even walmart, or a target you can get water fountains, that drip down water, with a few decorative rocks, or shells, it can really be fun, alot of craft stores, have Ocean themed crafts, and art accents, that you can find a home for.

Latterns, or light house memorbila, can be old fashion, try to avoid those.

avoid fishy borders in the room, avoid, cheap looking plastic shells, or wall decor, try to stay with real items.

-

What are some fun crafts you can make that can use to decorate your room?

Kayla

I recently got into making my own furniture and decor for my bedroom lately. I realized it saves a lot of money and its make your room more personal. So I wanted to know if you guys had any cool ideas of some useful things to make that can go in my room???!!!

Answer
Try a chair covered with a soft, washed denim fabric. Use denim accents in the room, such as trimming a group of red pillows with fat denim cording.

You can even use a denim look to cover the walls. There are paint techniques for chambray and denim-look walls, which will be a perfect accent to a room with a cowboy theme or for a young lady who is crazy about horses.

Denim is a fabric that immediately imparts the feeling of comfort, so it is perfect for bedrooms in particular. Use denim comforters and pillow shams. You can even find chambray sheets and matching curtains.

Try using an old ragged pair of jeans to make valances for the windows, or dress up your curtains with chintz covered cornices.

Keep your walls in the neutral family of colors. Try soft camel beige or a subtle yellow. Pine furniture works well, or you can paint your old wooden furniture in light golden tones.

Furniture that is more casual than formal works better for this particular style. Other teen room decorating ideas to choose from are:

Garden styles. Use floral prints, upholstered furniture, floral area rugs, and balance the look with plain walls, floors, and curtains.

Casual styles. These include rustic themes, sports, nautical, particular hobbies, Americana . . . the possibilities are limitless. For example, a style could be developed around a collection of autographed baseballs, teapots, wooden duck decoys, trophies, art posters, etc.

Decorating with black and white. This style uses black as an anchor to set off a dramatic decorating look.

This teen room decorating idea is for the drama queen or king teenager in your household. Use a black and white floor, crisp white linens and comforters, and upholstered chairs. Set off the black with accents in red or warm gold, but be sure to pick up the black and white theme in lamps, pillows, picture frames, and other elements of the room.

Contemporary styles. These dictate clean lines, sculptural furniture, high ceilings, and geometric artwork.

Make use of brick walls and ceiling pipes. Avoid anything with floral patterns, ruffles, carvings, or traditional details. You are aiming for the look of an art or museum gallery, utilizing a bold, creative, and sculptural style.

Cottage style. This teen room decorating idea works especially well for teenage girls' rooms. Plaid or country-style fabrics work well with white furniture and rustic accent pieces. This style can transform a bedroom into a mini-vacation spot!

European or Parisian style. This is a glamorous style that invokes old world sophistication. It uses furniture and accent pieces from the rococo, baroque, neoclassical to the more modern art deco and cabaret designs.

Your main colors are black, white, and gold, with jewel tones as accents. Choose vintage-style furniture, such as a black or cream painted dresser with gold accents. Fabrics include silks and brocades. For fun, add a few vintage posters of old Parisian nightclubs, French train station signs, and black wrought iron shelves and tables.

The list of possibilities is endless. Find a good time to sit down and go over these teen room decorating ideas, and soon you will find yourself and your teenager working together to reinvent their bedroom.

What was the biggest mess your child has ever made?

baby oh's

Yes, I have six kids. They are all my angel babies but they do grow horns and lose their wings at times.

I just walked into my girls room and five of them are coloring their little "cave drawings" all over the wall in neon sharpie. That was only the first part.So I went to put my son in the bath after he pooed in his pants, and the bathtub is full of toilet paper and little fruit cups. In the toilet, I see a whole KFC chicken leg, and in the sink a bunch of mashed potato wedges. What next? I decided that it was time for the corner, so I went into the living room and what do I see? Six little lunatics feeding the fish cheerios and beating up on daddy. Then I notice that the dog hs a peanut butter sandwich smeared on his back. So, could It get any worse? My daughter runs to me crying and saying that her brother stuck a "bizztard" on her. She turns around and I see my sons baby lizard clamped its mouth shut on her back.Done yet?
After all was fairly calm, my OTHER daughter gets off the couch, tells me she needs to go to the potty, and then spews a mixture of blue kool aid, bananas, and red jello onto my lap. Then she starts laughing turns around, and pukes out more onto my white carpet. Heard enough? I have!

I am sure you kids do these things too, please tell me some stories, thanks!

Answer
My 4yr-old is EXREMELY smart but is very well-behaved. He does however help his brother concoct some bad ideas. My baby is almost two, he too is very smart, but very busy. Our dining room chairs have wheels and he likes to push them over to the cabinets and climb onto the counters, into the sink, and to my horror, onto the stove. I have rescued him twice now from a perch atop burners he lit. I wash able to get him before the things heated up but only barely. There is nothing he can't climb, nothing. We have all of our chemicals, all of my cooking ingredients and most of the food locked up with keyed door locks or metal chains and padlocks. He turns the plastic locks until they snap or break. His father made the mistake of leaving a book of matches in our bedroom, which is locked with a keyed lock. My 4-yr-old, helped my nearly 2-yr-old to unlock it with stolen keys and let him in. There is now a burn-hole two feet in diameter on our mattress from the fire. Luckily, the smoke detectors saved my son's life. It never fails, I have to use the restroom (which is always locked too) and they manage to get into something. In the last year, we have had to wash our cat because they died her orange with less than a half an ounce of orange model paint, had to install serious hardware on nearly every door in our house, replace several pieces of furniture that were taken apart with daddy's tools, and we have had to flush 6 fish, two died of being fed cat food, one died from having his tank cleaned with bleach, while he was in it, two more died because they were given a bubble bath in the bathtub, and the last was murdered by a very panicked cat who was tossed rather unceremoniously into the fishtank. I feel your pain, I have a third baby due in July and frankly, I'm scared. Labor is easy, I don't know if I can handle anymore crises.

What should I do to my bedroom walls?

Cynthia

I can't decide on what I should do to my bedroom walls. What I had in mind was either white walls with neon splatter paint, have each wall be a different color (red, orange, yellow, hot pink), something abstract, or do something with zebra print. I like those, but I also want some more ideas. For a bit of my personality, I'm kind of a punk rock kid. Help please! Haha.

Answer
I did zebra print and blah i hate it now. I thought about doing splatter! Do it. The zebra shit is so unoriginal and splatter is so cool and fun. :)

Ideas for Decorating a Teenage Girl's Bedroom?

Ever since I was young, the life of Marie Antoinette has always intrigued me. After the film Marie Antoinette directed by Sofia Copolla, it became one of my favorite films. I know it's not exactly historically accurate, but the movie is just visually stunning- from the costumes, to the interiors of Versailles, everything was like candy for the eyes. Especially the floral prints, flowers, ribbons, jewels, and pastries.

After seeing this ad for the perfume Miss Dior Cherie, I knew it looked familiar, and I also knew that I really liked the style of it. Here it is:

http://www.la-story.com/upload/2009/03/new_miss_dior_cherie_leau_fragrance_commercial_dir/missdior2balloons.jpg

After the commercial for said perfume was released, I found out that Sofia Copolla directed it. It demonstrates Copolla's love for bright pastels like hot pink, and softer shades like baby blues, mint greens, and light yellows. Pastries and flowers are also present, and so are pretty pastel balloons. Check it out:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zWvtx0nijE&feature=related

Anyways, I would really like to decorate my room with bright pastels, and pretty furniture, but I'd like to know some places where I could find Marie Antoinette-esque fabrics (large florals that DON'T look grandma-ish), accesories, and some ideas for what should go into my bedroom. So far I've got this:

-Brass headboard
-White wall shelves ( for books and a couple knick-knacks)
-Poofy white comforter and sheets
-Pine dresser, and nightstand (think I should ask my parents about painting them white?)
-White plastic bins for storage (how can I make them a little less modern-looking?)
-And some other little things that aren't worth listing.

For the walls I'm planning on doing a very soft bluish-green hue sort of like the color on the walls of this scene (NOTE: This is the scene that really made me decide that I wanted to decorate my room like so; so keep that in mind! Also not the floral of the curtians. THAT is the floral that I would like to see in my room.):

http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i31/costumersguide/Marie-Antoinette/ohcapmarie/guitar%20stripe/image002797.jpg

Or I'd like to paint the room in a soft yellow tone, like the color of the dress and flowers (on the hat) worn by the auburn-haired woman closest to the person viewing the photo:

http://www.costumersguide.com/MA/trianon2a.jpg

I'm leaning towards the blue. Your thoughts?

So what I'm asking is for is pictures of and places where I can get colorful Sofia Copolla-inspired accesories and pretty rooms essentials that are reminiscent of what I've showed you. Also, tell me what you think I should do to decorate my room. Thank you! P.S. Links and photos are greatly appreciated!

Only thing is it didn't come with a kitchen and I didn't save up too much going into this anyway. i only have about 4 hundred dollars in my account and when i get paid my eight hundred dollars this pay check six hundred is going to my first month of rent. Im just wanting to know where I can get some cheap furniture because I know Im going to have to live poor for at least a couple of months until I can afford the proper items to put in my home. The items can be used or new. So please help this is my first real time living on my own Im only 19.

Answer
The basics: A bed, a dresser, a table to eat, a sofa to sit, a lamp, pots, pans, dishes, utensils.
The bathroom stuff is a Dollar Store no brainer as well as the kitchen utensils, and curtain rods and such. The living room and bedroom are best if done with item that you acquire for Free.

craigslist.org is my favorite place to go for FREE stuff. People list free things that they want to get rid of and other people (you) email them and set up a time and place to come and pick them up.
I would not go alone to any of these meetings, you are after all still young.
They get to keep another thing out of the landfill and you get usable items that help with your decor.

I have gotten some very nice things that I plan to keep for years to come.
I even got an antique dresser for Free, the woman just wanted it out of her home and I was glad to accommodate her.

Free is the best way to go when you really need to save your funds.

But free does not mean that you HAVE to take it. Ask questions before you decide to take it and ask for a photo of the item if possible in the email. If they don't send one, move on to the next item.

Be discriminating because you might get some pieces that are very nice and worth the lifting and hauling to get them to your new home.
Keep your strong muscle bound friends, you will need them for the lifting and hauling of furniture to your new place.
I for one, don't like getting mattresses from other people. I find that just a little too personal, but to each his or her own.
We all know what goes on in BEDS, now don't we?
But if it does not gross you out then go for it.

There are also some other community sites that offer free and reusable furniture etc.
Google them and find out.

As for IKEA, they are great, just a little pricey for some things.
But their sales are to die for.

Just because it is a basement apt doesn't mean that it can't be fabulous.
Congrats on getting your own place at such a tender age.
Be safe, save some money for a rainy day and enjoy.
Peace

Do you have any ideas for a birthday party?

Rebel Girl

I am 13 my birthday is in july 21 what ideas do you have for a party
I want something cool with alot of music and there no budget for me!!!

Answer
For my 15th birthday,i decided to have a hawiian themed party. If youre looking for a great way to celabrate a birthday for teens,a hawiian theme is the right way to go!Everybody loved mine, and they are still raving on about it to this day!So follow my party plan instructions, and youre guests will all have an enjoyable and memorable time! First off,we didnt want to pay out loads of money on invitations, decor, food, music etc; so we made my invites on the computer,i made them really colourful and bright! i also looked up on the net what all of there names would be in Hawiian, and wrote them on there invites! We made pineapple centerpieces out of real pineapples and crepe paper. We bought big pieces of coloured card card, and wrote different things on them like "Aloha","happy 15th birthday" etc;we made our own food but we did order a big cake with a hula girl on it.And finaly we went to the library and got some wiked tropical music! Now for the fun part! When my gests arrived(35 total)my mum presented them with a flower lei and a tropical fruit punch in a coconut shell cup, with pretty umbrellas in it!And the boys got a staw hat!On the front door,we covered it with bright balloons, and a big sign saying "the party's here." we have quite a big garden,so we decided to hire a'surf board simulator' (roughly ?160) to ad to the hawiian theme, that was the highlight of the party, and it was quite cheap to hire for a whole day!Every body loved it! Since we didnt have a pool we thought we would buy one of those round'stay up all year pools(?100)but we were going to get 1 for the summertime anyway! so i told my friends to bring there most colourful bikinis and towels! the pool really set the hawiian beach feeling! We set out 2 big tables and decorated them with confetti, rafia triming, the pineapple centrepieces and a coloured tablecloth! And we servd snacks such as crisps, candy, chocolate, fruit punch etc; We bought a limbo set for the party aswell, but you can easily try to make 1 from branches,or just have an adult hold a pole for you!I set up a treasure hunt for all my mates and I. i hid different types of sweets arond the garden, and for a joke i hid stuff like brocoli and carrots! when it got dark and it was time to come in (around 8.30) we cleared out the dining room and/or living area, and turned it into a dance area, where we also later played truth or dare games,we opened my pressies and stuffed ourselves with all of the left over food! yum! afterwards i had a few of my close friends sleep round after, it was a very eventful day, and everyone went home very hyper! If you want to go all out on this you could hire a DJ or some professional hula dancers, and for decoration mybe you could buy some cheap sand from somewhere and pour it over your patio for a more 'beachy effect' I hope i have given you more than enough helpful ideas on how to have a great hawiian party! Have fun !!!!!!!!! Also oriental trading has tons of cheap items for this party so go to orientaltrading.com

which disney resort is the best to stay at with children 6 and 3?

We've never been to disney world (florida) and I was wondering which disney resort would be the best to stay at with young ones, 6 and 3 and when is the best time to go, when its not so busy?

Answer
The best resort to stay in with kids that age is the All-Star Movies resort, hands down. The All-Star's are part of the value resorts, but don't let that deter you they are great places to stay. I stayed there twice with my kids, both times they were around the age of your kids. The whole resort is geared towards families, with decor that the kids just love. A 3 story Pongo and Perdie guard the 101 Dalmations wing, there is a giant Sorcerer Mickey hat at the Fantasia wing, a huge pool with Mickey spraying water. The food court has anything and everything to eat, and it is pretty good as food courts go. The rooms are on the small side, but they are not too bad. You are already making the smart choice by staying at a Disney resort. You get all of the perks of staying at a Disney resort, especially the transportation. Having to catch a shuttle from an off site hotel or drive each day to WDW is such a pain. If you stay on site it makes the trip that much more magical.

When to go is another decision. There are times when the crowds are smaller, but keep in mind those are generally during the off peak times. When the parks are in the off peak times they generally close earlier, and some of the attractions and rides you want to see are shut down for refurbishement and repair. If that doesn't bother you, then just about any of the off peak times are good in terms of crowd. In all honesty my favorite time of year to go is the spring, usually during spring break or Easter break. I don't have to take the kids out of school, and the weather in March and April is perfect.

If you want more info I would suggest a few places. First, check out the Disney website. They have a resort comparison tool you can use, and detailed pics of all the resorts. You can even get a quote for your trip, and add what you want in a package (when buying passes, DO add the park hopper option to your tickets. It makes getting around in WDW MUCH easier and is worth the extra money.) Also, check out the disboards. The disboards is a free message board website that is all about going to WDW. You can ask questions and get opinions from people who go often and know what they are talking about, and they are not travel agents trying to drum up business like some of the other info sites. You can get trip reports, resort reviews, restaurant reviews, tips for avoiding crowds, and much more. I put both links below. Finally, go to the bookstore and get a copy of the Birnbaum's guide to WDW. There are a ton of guide books out there, but that is the one that has worked best for us.

Hope this helps, have a great trip!!!

What requests can and should I make for staying at the Walt Disney World resorts?

Stinky Fee

I will be staying at one of the All Stars ( I won't find out which one until later) I'm told probably the Music or Sports. Then I will be staying at the Port Orleans Riverside.

I will be traveling with a very large group while staying at the All Stars including my husband and 3 and 5 year old. Then just my family at Port Orleans. Just wondering what requests I can make regarding my hotels. And what other suggestions you have for me regarding these specific hotels. Thanks!
I have no choice about staying at the All Stars ( I will be with a group)

I can not change categories for my stay at the Port Orleans. I have to stay within the moderate. (Port Orleans Riverside, Port Orleans French Quarter, and Caribbean Beach)
Do only some of the rooms at Port Orleans Riverside have elevators?

Answer
I think you chose very wisely when picking your hotels. All of the All-Stars are good choices, especially for larger groups. Everyone will have their own room, although they will be smaller than the other hotels they are nice. The value resorts only real drawback is the fact that they do not offer a sit down restaurant, so it's the food court only. Other than that the value resorts are good choices for those on a less expensive budget.

The P.O. Riverside is a very good moderate resort. Port Orleans is huge and split into two sections, Riverside and French Quarter (formerly Dixie Landings). I have stayed at the French Quarter and really enjoyed it. The rooms are a little bit larger, the pools are very nice, the decor is outstanding, and the food court and the sit down restaurant (Boatwright's dining) are also very good. You can't go wrong with any of the moderate resorts. There are a few more bus stops in Riverside, but don't let that fool you, there is usually not a huge problem with the bus service.

As for requests, it depends on what you want. In the All-Stars I don't think there is anything special to ask for unless you want to be closer to the main building for some reason. Disney is usually pretty flexible in this regard, but you have to call them in advance, about a day or so. I have a father-in-law who is diabetic, so when we were at All-Star Movies we asked to be closer to the main building so we could be closer to the food court, because he has to be able to eat at specific times, and he has a hard time walking. This is the only request I would make for P.O. Riverside. The resort is large, so any extra time spent walking could be rough, especially with little ones. See how close you can get to the main building and pool area. Other than that, there really isn't a bad place to be in the resort.

If you want some more info on these resorts or some other tips and suggestions I would recommend a couple of spots. First try the disboards. The disboards is a message board website where you can ask questions, get trip reports, dining reviews, resort reviews, tips, tricks and all kinds of info, including suggestions for the rest of Orlando, including Sea World and Universal. The people who are on the disboards are people who go often and love to go to Disney, and know what they are talking about. Also, there is the website allears.net. Tons of info there. Finally, go to the bookstore and pick up the Birnbaum's guide to WDW. There are a ton of guide books out there, but that is the one that has always worked best for us.

Don't let anyone tell you that you are wasting your time and money taking your children to Disney at their age. Sure, they can't ride the Rock'N'Roller Coaster or the Tower of Terror, but there is a ton of stuff they can do and will love. I took my kids for the first time when my daughter was 4, then when my daughter was 5 and my son 1, we had a great time. As they have gotten older they have been able to ride more and more, and seeing their faces the first time they saw Main Street USA was worth every penny that I have ever spent at Disney. It is sooo worth it.

Have a great trip! Hope this helps.

What colour scheme/theme should I do for my bedroom?

I already have a chocolate brown suede duvet cover and shams, and I would like the room to have an 'enchanted forest' feel without being childish; I want it to have a more romantic feel. I want it to look woodsy I suppose, so what colour furniture, sheets, walls, etc do you recommend? Also, what other room accessories could I get to attribute to this theme?

Thanks!
any links or pictures would be very helpful too!

Answer
Sage or a mossy kind of green on the walls.
A canopy bed with sheer material draped from post to post.

http://ak1.ostkcdn.com/images/products/L80060131.jpg ---bed
http://www.canopybedshowroom.com/Mirage-Decor-Panel-for-Canopy-Beds-319242.htm

Stick to dark woods for the furniture and black or brown metal for the canopy bed.

Layer your curtains, starting with white or cream sheers (which should ideally match the color of the bed curtains). You can use a taupe/beige from the drapes and go for something that has a bit of a pattern to it in either black or gold.

http://ak2.ostkcdn.com/images/products/L13864814.jpg -- sheers

Sheets can be any of the following colors: White, cream, tan, sage or chocolate brown again. All would go well with your duvet.

http://www.target.com/p/Printed-Canvas-Wall-Art-18-5-x1-5/-/A-13797787 -- art

* I know that this one is a bit expensive, but I want you to pay attention to the ornate shape. Check out your local thrift, used furniture, resale and consignment shops. A lot of times, you can find similar items for less.

Finish off with 3 candles in frosted white cups (look at Ikea) on a mirrored tray (Target has one - check it out) on top of your dresser. For small pops of color, think golds, reds, orange - the colors of fall.

Hope this helps and I really hope your room turns out great!

Can a experiance airline pilot please paint a picture in my mind of how day to day work was/is for them?

Harry

I am a student in the uk and am almost certaint that I will take the perfession of being a pilot and for other jobs their are these videos I see of how they are each day normally called 'a day in the life of' ... Could a experiance airline pilot please give me a detailed image of how day to day work is pleasee. With as much detail as possible please. Thanks

Answer
Please find enclosed a home study simulator course for those of you who hunger for the romance and adventure of being an airline pilot. If you follow all the steps in this course you will experience the 'Romance and Adventure' of said profession

1] Stay up all day and do not go to bed

2] Sit in your most uncomfortable chair, preferably inside a closet, for 9 or 10 hours while you face a 4 foot wide panoramic photo of a flight deck

3] Have two to four noisy vacuum cleaners on high, out of sight but within hearing distance and operating throughout the night. If a vacuum cleaner fails, do the appropriate emergency restart checklist.

4] Halfway through your nocturnal simulator course, arrange for a bright spotlight to shine directly into your face for two or three hours, simulating flying eastbound into the sunrise

5] Have bland overcooked food served on a tray halfway through the night

6] Have cold cups of coffee delivered from time to time, and ask the "flight attendant" to slam the "cockpit door" frequently

7] At the times when you must heed nature's call, force yourself to stand outside the bathroom door for at least ten minutes, transferring your weight from leg to leg, to ease the discomfort. This simulates the wait for the passenger that made it in just ahead of you. Don't forget to wear your hat and smile.

8] Leave the "cockpit" after the prescribed nine or ten hours. Go outside and turn on your lawn sprinklers and then stand out in the cold and "rain", for twenty minutes, simulating the wait for the crew shuttle to the motel.

9] You may now head for your bedroom, soaking wet with your suitcase and flight bag in hand. Stand outside the door for 15 minutes, simulating the wait while the maid makes up your hotel room bed

10] If anyone inquires what you have been doing up all night, just say, 'Simulating the allure of all night airline flying to romantic international destinations', then go collapse into bed.

11] If you are a realist, do this two nights in a row to complete your round trip.

12) Try to enjoy it.

Cherry or Plum blossom shower liner and curtain?

I've browsed all over the place and can't seem to find them. I'm doing bathroom in oriental style and would love to get cherry or plum blossom shower curtain + liner. I'll also appreciate any good links to other bath/bedroom decor in oriental style. Thank you.

This one is a regular curtain. Add the holes for the shower curtain rings and add a shower curtain liner behind it to protect getting wet.

How do I become more girly girl?

Victoria

I have been interested in becoming more feminine in appearance since I was a little girl but have had no close female family members to guide me in my pursuit. I'm looking for advice in clothes, makeup, bedroom decor, etc. I have blue eyes, a cool skin undertone, dark brown hair (I dyed it a ash blonde/strawberry blonde color, but my roots are still dark brown) which is in a pixie cut. I have a hard time determining by body type. I do have a bust, but I also carry some weight in my thighs (not my hips), butt, and stomach. I have a defined waist, so I might be an hourglass, but I'm honestly confused. I know that I'm not pear, athletic, tall, or petite. I am short though, at 5' 1 1/2". I have a round face.
I'm really knowledgeable about skincare, but I have an issue with sticking to the routine.
I usually got up 5 minutes before the bus came in the morning last year. Any recommended time frame to get ready for the day? I'm looking for a minimal commitment morning routine (one of the reasons I have a pixie cut, I had no idea what to do with my long hair). I'm also very committed to my academic work and extracurriculars, and I have a small budget. I work during the summers, but it's minimum wage and a 4 hour shift, and it's likely I'll only be working Sundays if at all during the school year.
I've tried eyeliner a few times and I'm not a fan.
I'm in the process of redoing my room and I've just pained it a turquoise color. I looking into getting a new bedspread sheets. I'm particularly attracted to the purple set at VS Pink, but do I need a duvet AND a comforter? Can't I just get a comforter and everything else or will it look weird without a duvet?
I don't hate the color pink, but I much prefer blue and purple, and I'm not really into the girly stereotype behavior in terms of putting chihuahuas in over sized purses or wearing/owning everything pink or saying "like" every other word or acting snobby and rude.
What kind of stores could I get one time splurge clothes every once in a while (note: do not mention A&F or Hollister, I'm boycotting from that company due to the CEO's and some of his employees comments that I find offensive and promoting stupidity, I have nothing against people who wear A&F clothes)? I like wearing skirts and I also would love to start wearing a dress every once in a while for school (something simple, knee length, either a solid color or polka dots). I like the preppy style of dressing, so I would like to wear knee high socks, button-up shirts and blouses. I have a pair of mid-rise black skinny jeans from Levi's and I love them. I know that low-rise jeans do not look flattering on me and are often uncomfortable to wear, and I'm weary of light washed jeans. I would love to wear acid washed jeans (I also like being retro). What other kinds of jeans (boot cut, straight leg? I don't like flares) could I wear? I've always wanted to get a pair of jeans from AE, so is there any from there that I must get? I had a pair of flats last year and I really loved them. I also wore wedges sometimes and I liked that. I got a pair of moccasin loafers on sale from an outlet Bass and I love those. I want to get a utilitarian purse that still looks cute and carries everything I need throughout the day. What kind of stuff would I need to put in there (floss, gum, sanitizer, wallet, travel sized lotions/mists/deodorant, nail file[I also need help with how you do your own manicure], water bottle)? What kind of school supplies could be updated with girly prints? Binders, folders, notebooks, pens, pencil cases, etc.?
I also want to work out more. I have a good body image, but I want to get into the habit of working out sometime before college so I can stay healthy. I'm going to be doing cheer leading, possibly competitive cheer, and definitely track (I'm a thrower). I live in a place where it's cold, rainy, and overcast for most of the year, so jogging isn't always an option. I just signed up for a month of gym membership and I do like the elliptical, and I'm looking forward to weightlifting again.

Answer
Okay girl lets do this head to toe.
1) wax your eyebrows of you have not yet. Eyebrows frame your face and make a HUGE difference.
2) grow out your hair. Guys like girls with long hair, and short haired girls may be associated with lesbians. You can easily find ways to to your hair easily on YouTube. I recommend stilababe09 and macbarbie07
3) speaking of youtubers, start watching beauty gurus to learn beauty and style tips and keep up with trends
4) curl your lashes and wear mascara. I recommend Maybelline Volume Express (Target, $5)
5) easy eyeshadow that looks good on everyone is to just apply a sparkly champagne color on your eyelid.
6) lips. A simple tinted lip balm will work wonders. I recommend Maybelline babylips (target, $3)
7) foundation is not really necessary, concealer and some powder can work
8) wear perfume or body splashes. Bath and body works has cheap, high quality body splashes
9) for clothes, I would recommend H&M, brandy Melville, forever 21, and topshop. Topshop is especially good for what you seem to be wanting
10) unless you are 20 or over, stop wearing ballet flats unless you can REALLY pull them off. I would recommend strappy sandals, Sperry's, Toms, Minnetonka Moccasins, and pretty colored Nike Free Runs
11) whiten your teeth with crest white strips
12) for hip room decor, check out Urban Outfitters or Target
13) develop a style of your own that people can specifically id you by
14) I would recommend getting a down comforter and a duvet to go over it. This way, you always have a good quality comforter and can just change the duvet when u please. It's also easier for cleaning.
15) when decorating your room, choose one thing to be the focal point of the room and pick decorations and color themes accordingly
16) for jean fits, I would recommend boot cut. Avoid straight legged. AE has good jeans, but they stretch throughout the day. Hollister has the best jeans in my opinion.
17) hobo bags are all the rage with girls. In mine, I keep a Vera Bradley wallet, blotting papers, some makeup, lip balm, hand lotion, a Luna bar, a water bottle, gum, a Pinch Provions Minimergency Kit, etc.
18) I give myself an hour in the morning, but then again my hair goes almost to my waist.
19) for working out, try to find a place to run even if it is a treadmill. Running slims you down everywhere while still building muscle.
20) also try to eat healthier
21) it doesn't matter what school supplies you have.

That's all!!!! Hope this helps!!!! Good luck girly!! Oh and also use emojis when you textðððð

Can I paint a old Drexel bedroom set?

kids bedroom decor sale
on ... Paul Frank Velvet Kids Duvet Cover Set [Paul Frank Bedding 36
kids bedroom decor sale image

anesthesia

I just purchased a head/foot board and matching dresser at a consignment shop and I want to paint it to match my bedroom. The paint is wearing off but it's still in pretty good condition. Does anyone know if the company's furniture is worth preserving?

Answer
I "LOVE" consignment shops, yard sales, Goodwill, etc. For years and years (when the kids where young, especially) this was all I could afford. I painted everything. It was worth it to me. I would inspect the piece, determine what repairs it needed, nail, screw, etc. and then paint. In your case since the furniture paint is wearing off visit your local paint store for options. Last time I was at the hardware store to pick up paint samples (2 weeks ago) I saw several different kinds of paint strippers if you want to go that route. The cost of doing the work yourself is much much less then having someone do it for you and you can change your mind as you change you decor. My daughter would change her mind on what her favorite color was every year, so out would come the paint.

As to the value of the pieces you bought, whether it is better to keep them as they are or to refinish them? It depends on when they where made and in what style. Get them valued by an antiques dealer. But for your information the Drexel company was founded in 1903 so the piece is Twentieth Century most likely. Some better made furniture that is pre-1960 are beginning to develop value. Check into this before you do something that can't be reversed.

Can I sell my condo I've owned for a year?

Rebecca

I bought a 1-bedroom condo last summer that is spacious for a single, first-time homeowner. But I'm planning to live with my boyfriend soon - and I am worried that it is too small and naive to think that it will be comfortable.

Does anyone have any advice on selling a condo/home about a year after closing? I haven't done any renovations, though it looks better even with fresh paint and nice decor. Also, I live in an area where home prices haven't dropped even though the market has declined. Thank you.
I do have a great realtor and know the steps I'd need to take to put it on the market. I'm mostly worried about it being a poor business decision, and losing money for selling it so quickly in a tough market.

Answer
How very insightful! You can sell your condo whenever you desire, but your hesitancy makes good sense.

Most likely you chose to buy your condo because it represented as a good investment, included some tax advantages and of course provided you with a comfortable place to live. Rather than throw away these things by selling the condo, I suggest you look into ways you can preserve it. For example see of you can rent it out at a price that pays the mortgage and the monthly maintenance fee (or more). That way you can continue gaining the equity you were throwing away when you were paying rent. If you are unsure of your future relationship rent the condo month to month in case you need to move back in soon. OR if the new guy turns out to be Mr. Right, the condo can serve as an investment to liquidate when it comes time to buy that house big enough for kids too in the more expensive neighborhood with good schools. I say keep it, I can only assume that a quick turn around sale won't allow you any profit (after paying commissions)after only a year (but your Realtor should be explaining this to you upfront). Good Luck!
