Q. I am looking to update the look of my livingroom, bedroom and bathroom but I need some ideas to get me started. Do you have any suggestions on websits or books that have lots of pictures and tips that would help?

Answer
Try www.webshots.com. In the search type 'model homes'. There are a bunch of photos there with lots of ideas. It is free.

You can also try www.getdecorating.com. That you need to pay for. I think it is only $35 a year (?)

Good luck.

How should I decorate my boys room?

Q. I have a 8, 3 and 3 month old in the same bedroom. I want to move but the 3 bedroom apt are full and we can't afford a house right now.

Answer
A decorating theme is a great way to begin decorating a room for a child. If you're like most parents, you've probably spent lots of time thinking about decorating your new child's room even before he joined your family. While bunnies are cute and teddy bears are darling, you might want something different for the bedroom or playroom.

There are lots of great themes for boys' rooms. A special theme will provide both the focus and the inspiration for a special one-of-a-kind room and can be adapted as your child grows. Time to get started!

Bug's Life
From bees and ants to frogs and reptiles, creatures of nature often capture a child's attention. Browse theme ideas at Posh Tots including a Bug Off Table and Chair Set, Bug bed linens, and or frog lamp.

Favorite Animals
What boy wouldn't love a room focusing on his favorite pet? Whether it's a dog or cat, bird or snake, using this theme will make your son (and his pet) feel particularly at home. Be sure to put up lots of pictures with your son and his best friend around the room and make sure you have stuffed animals scattered everywhere.

Playhouse / Playtown
This theme will provide a wonderful scheme for decorating your son's room and provide lots of wonderful playtime possibilities as well. A whimsical or the cute playtown chest can be your starting point. Or, do a border in kids designs or paint a mural of a street scene on one or more walls. Name the storefronts for family members ("Katie's Groceries", "Ted's Puppet Theatre", "Todd's Bike Shop", "Anne's Pet Heaven", "Sara's Video Den", or Dennis' Book Nook").

Safari
For a safari look, find wonderful, colorful animal wallpaper borders and fabrics at any wallpaper store. Paint the walls blue, tan, ivory, or any of the colors in your wallpaper border. Make pillows and valances from coordinating leopard-print fabrics, and find some stuffed lions and tigers for the corner. Mount a butterfly net, binoculars, or straw hat on the walls. Use colorful matboard and frame some of your child's artwork to display. Maybe he'll draw some lions!

Rustic Cabin
Most every child loves spending time at camp or in the mountains. And what parent doesn't have happy childhood memories of hiking, boating, fishing, or just enjoying the outdoors. Birdhouses, bears, moose, and fish might show up in wallpaper borders, in fabrics, bedding, and accessories. For a rustic room you might also choose comfy plaid patterns, flannel fabrics, and log or pine beds. Accessories might use forest themes of animals, mountain scenes, or natural materials such as pine cones, leaves, and sticks. Take another cue from camp and use a sturdy trunk to store toys. With a room this nice, who needs a vacation?

Rain Forest
Choose a colorful jungle border, or try a jungle area rug. Soft fabric snakes and colorful stuffed birds or butterfly cutouts can add to the decor. Make pillows of animal or jungle prints and use themed accessories. Grrr!

Race Cars
With car racing, you think black and white checkered flags, and a finish line. Find an area rug with a car track design. A car bed might be fun, or decorate the walls with a car wall appliques. Add some framed calendar photos or posters of race cars, and put up narrow shelving to display car collections. Zoom!

Outer Space
Take a trip to the stars using a space theme. An Apollo bed set, outerspace border, or star-studded rocking chair might be just the items that inspires your child to reach for the stars. Paint reflective planets or stars on the ceiling in arrangements of the constellations.

Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines
If Dad is in the service, you might let your boy feel patriotic with a room painted in camouflage and outfitted with tanks and desert colors.

Sports
From soccer to baseball to football, sports is a theme that spans the generations. To use a baseball theme for example, use a headboard made from bats, hang curtains from bats used as curtain rods, make a baseball lamp, or hang shelving to display gloves, pennants, and trophies. Paint the room in the colors of your son's favorite team. Sports themed rugs, furniture, and beds are another possibility. Create similar looks for other sports, and you'll have a room that is a big "hit" with sports fans. Play ball!

Wild Colors
Go wild by starting with a lively area rug designed in fun colors for a child. Take your cue from the rug for colors and designs for the rest of the room. Use color everywhere! Paint every surface of a bookcase a different color, and do the same with headboard slats, drawer fronts, and chair legs. This is a great way to help your little one learn his colors! Find a fabric to compliment the rug and use it to tie the room together with window valances or floor pillows.

Movie or Cartoon Characters
There's something for everyone in this theme! Whether your son has been captivated by Mickey Mouse, Alladin, Lion King, Toy Story, or Scooby Doo -- you'll probably be able to find bedding, lamps, and other decorative items that use these themes. Towels for the bathroom and toys will be easy to add.

Pirates
The story of Peter Pan can inspire creative parents to design a wonderful room. Boys intrigued by the notion of pirates will love a room using blue ocean themes, ship masts, portholes, netting, treasure boxes, and secret play hideaways.

Knights and Castles
Artistic parents can faux paint castle walls, murals, and blue skies for a truly memorable room. Use the theme of "A Sword in the Stone" or "Camelot" for inspiration. Find another take on this theme offered by for Mercy's Sake in their Galahad collection.

Trains, Planes, and Automobiles
There are lots of colorful choices in bedding, fabrics, and wallpaper that feature transportation themes. Make a train track border around the room, hang airplanes from the ceiling, or go wild with a car-shaped bed.

Cowboy Kids
This is a fun theme where you can let your imagination run wild. Think bandana valances, chaps wall hangings, tin stars, horses, rope borders, and more. The baby dude designs offered by for Mercy's Sake offer some fun possibilities. Or check out OliveKids.com Camp Wilderness or the Wild West theme designs from PoshTots.com for more creative examples of this theme and products to add to your decor.

Dinosaurs
From cute and stylized to realistic and ferocious -- dinosaurs themes are still popular. If you suspect this is a passing phase for your little one, then opt for solid color bedding and walls, using theme elements in borders, sheets, valances, and posters.

How can I fit three girls into a 10' by 11' bedroom?

Q. Ages are: five year old twins, and a 10 year old.

Answer
You can get a trundle bed set... or you can get bunk beds... and then a twin bed for your 10 year old. Obviously there will not be room for much more things. You also need to look into your state regulations on how many kids can be in a room and what age a child is required to have own bedroom.. here no oppisite sex children can share a room after age of 2.... same sex children can share a room until they are 10 years old. parents go to jail for that around here all the time... just look into that in your state to be certain that everything will be followed.

Curtain and Bed set ideas for a Blue walled Bedroom with grey white carpet?

kids bedroom decorating blogs
on Living Room Decorating Ideas - Decor for Living Rooms - Good ...
kids bedroom decorating blogs image

I have a Columbia blue room. On 2 walls there are 2 colors sponged on but very lightly( green and a kind of pale yellow. On the 2 other walls there is the Columbia blue but then there are darker streaks of blue. I did not paint these walls, or choose the colors, but it is not an option to repaint. I am tying to get new curtains and new bed set. For my windows there is a white rim. Do you guys have any ideas for what I could get? I also would appreciate it if you would give me a website or a picture of the room that you found the bed idea in. If not thats okay too, I would like as many ideas as possible:) thank you so much
In a few year we will be getting wood floors, I don't know if this matters but... yea haha:) Thanks again!

Answer
Wow. I'd like to see a photo of that paint job. Whew.

Well, you seem to have a good attitude about it so I commend you for that.

You definitely need to stay away from any kind of pattern in your fabrics. Go with one color and I would imagine the lighter the better, I'd imagine. White or pale yellow might be good.

Or one option might be to EMBRACE THE COLUMBIA BLUE since it is the unifying color in all the walls! Maybe get white curtains and bedspread but go with the columbia blue in all your pillows and accessories with some white accents, too!
http://uglyhousephotos.com/wordpress/?p=25204

These photos may not be your colors, but they show how plain colors are what's needed to tone down the busyness of your sponged painted walls:
http://uglyhousephotos.com/wordpress/?p=9485

Here's an idea that could help cover the busy walls and should be inexpensive. Though the photo shows several busy fabrics in the hoops (or in any shape) on a plain wall - reverse it! If you decide on a specific color then put that in hoops of several sizes to maybe tone down the walls.
http://www.happymundane.com/2007/03/fabric-wall-inspiration/

One idea I might suggest is to pick which 2 wall colors you could easiest live with, then cover the other two walls with something.

Since you cannot paint, how about ceiling to floor and wall to wall curtains? Pick one of the colors from the walls you will keep exposed, or use white, and get plain colored sheets and hang them on the walls. Ikea has great ideas on how to hang curtains but if your budget is really low, just hang them flat with staples or push pins.

http://pinterest.com/pin/57772807690801745/

If your budget is really low, get large sheets of craft paper hung with removable tape as tiles in a brick fashion: http://patterni.net/brick-pattern-tiles/

Or rolls of butcher paper, and use removable tape, staples or push pins to hang. Then, if you want, you could write or draw on your walls, too! http://www.walltowallstencils.com/gallery/fullsize/bettywatsonjohn316.jpg

Another idea is folding screens. Find them at rummage sales and paint them the color of your choice to help hide the 2 walls you want to cover up.

You can go to the dollar stores in your area and look for sheets, rugs, fabric, paper, place mats, anything inexpensively that you can use to hang. Again, I would stick with plain colors but you never know - maybe something might inspire you there and you'll come up we a great idea of your own!

Here are several ideas for you to check out. Notice in the first photo how they worked with the colors in the various patterns. That's the idea - pick UNIFYING colors.

Wall art! Make as big or small as you want!

im 17 and want to start a small side business, any ideas?

Cody Sturm

I am trying to get a small business goin but cant think of anything, it doesnt need to really bring in loads of money, just enough to pay my needs, but will certainly take loads if came to me!

Answer
-Antique refurbishment This is a perfect side business for people who love antiquing. Take worn-out antiques home with you, invest the time and care needed to transform those old items into something amazing, then resell them at a profit.
-Auto detailing Have a meticulous eye for detail and love to get things gleaming clean? Auto detailing is probably a perfect side business for you. In essence, your job is to make cars sparkle inside and out â and many people are quite happy to pay well for this service.
-Babysitting Got lots of evenings free? Like kids? Babysitting may be a great side business for you. Keep an eye on multiple children on Friday and Saturday nights and you can earn some solid income.
-Bed and breakfast Have some extra space in your home? Turn that extra bedroom into a âbed and breakfastâ room. This works particularly well if you have a somewhat older home or live near an area that attracts regular travelers and tourists.
Blogging If you enjoy writing, find a topic youâre passionate about and start a blog on the topic. All you need is a computer, some time, and some energy to consistently write.
Cake decorating Enjoy baking and have a bit of an artistic touch? Learn how to decorate cakes and make them for special events. One of my motherâs old friends does this and makes quite a bit of money on the side.
-Candle making Candle making is a great little craft to learn. You can often easily sell the candles at local shops and also through websites like Etsy.com.
Candy making Homemade candies are easier to make than you think and quite popular. Package them in nice little boxes and sell them through a local gift shop.
-Card making This is another artistic âcraftyâ angle you can follow. Make greeting/birthday cards from scratch using your own photographs, some blank cards, and a healthy dose of artistic flair. Again, you san sell items like these through a local gift shop or at sites like etsy.com.
-Catering If you love to cook, take the âBlondieâ route and start a home catering business. Catering is a business thatâs perfectly designed to reward those who plan well and can often fit perfectly into weekends, lining up wonderfully opposite a normal workweek.
-Childcare service Many states allow people to start up in-home daycares with minimal licensing and paperwork. If you love children and have plenty of time and space at home, this is a perfect business to get into.
-Cleaning services for businesses Many businesses and civic institutions have a need for individuals who will provide cleaning services at a low cost outside of business hours. This is a great side business for those who can put in a few hours late at night or on weekends.
Collectible trading If thereâs a particular type of collectible that you know a great deal about, you can often make good money as a collectible trader, utilizing tools like eBay and opportunities to find those collectibles in the community. I had some success with this myself with both trading cards and video games in the past.
-Computer troubleshooting I had some success with this in the past, though Iâve largely moved away from it now. If you have a knack for fixing computers, this is a good place to start.
Consignment buyer Consignment shops and consignment auctions are often loaded with good deals if you know how to identify them â quite often, you can turn these good deals around and make a nice profit elsewhere. Get started by visiting some consignment shops and critically evaluating the prices on the items there.
-Cookie making Much like candy making, homemade cookies can be a great seller. Bake the cookies, package them well, and resell them through a local gift shop. Often, you can find people in your social network who will buy batches from you for special occasions.
-Dinner preparer I recently met a woman who earned quite a bit of money as a very part-time chef. Once a week, she would go to someoneâs house and prepare a homemade meal for their family, then do all the dishes and cleanup work. This gives the family plenty of together time, while earning the lady some cash in the pocket. If you love to cook, this can be a great opportunity, but you may have to put a lot of work into searching for clients.

ASk them what colors they like in each room and what is there favorite toy or animal what hey are into and you can get there old clothes and make pillows, add a favor it shirt or outfit sewn on the bed spread pain their furniture. Sheets make great curtains and can cover and old chair, top of a toy box. with 2 sided tape you can take that cute animal or character cut it out of the okd sheet or pajama add it to the wall. 2 sided tapethey have fabric glue or tape for material. What are some cute twins names? And some cute ideas for twins bedrooms?

Emalee

My name is emalee and my boyfriends name is Dustin and we are having
Twins. We need help finding names and bedroom ideas I love saying and bright colors but Dustin likes the out door thems. And we are having a boy and a girl.

Answer
Just make sure the names don't match, don't rhyme, don't start with the same letter, aren't connected (like Romeo and Juliet), don't shorten to the same thing (Christopher and Christine). Name them as if they were individuals.

You could divide the room in two and decorate each half for each kid. Or have a bright color outdoor room. Strong greens and blues, for example. Sunshine yellow and lake blue.

Anyone have good ideas for pictures and things that I can hang in my bedroom walls?

My bedroom's theme is a bit Middle Eastern, but the pictures I've been choosing for it don't have anything to do with the room's decor so I really don't mind the theme much. I also would really like a cool, original way in which to arrange them in my walls. I'm on a tight budget so I can't spend much.

Answer
The art work does not have to "match" to look nice in your room. The colors in the pictures, however, should blend with or complement the colors you've used for bedding, walls, floor covering, furniture, etc.

You could use wall sconces, mirrors, shelves, plates, etc. in with the pictures to make a focal arrangement.

If you're on a tight budget (aren't we all?) check out yard sales, thrift stores, consignment stores, etc. for bargains. You'll be surprised at what you can find for little $$.

When I have a lot of things to hang and I am concerned about where to place them, I trace the shapes out on brown paper and tape them to the wall. I keep arranging until I get it perfect, then I put the actual pieces up This takes time, but it has saved me many a nail-hole patch job.

Anyone have good ideas for pictures and things that I can hang in my bedroom walls?

Answer
try this, hit flea markets for old hand mirrors, as ornate as you can find, and hang on walls either around your pictures, or in groups above bed. to tie everything together paint and gild the picture frames and mirrors so they blend together.
or find some pretty fabric in an eastern pattern and drape behind your pictures, or make a border out of the fabric for around each picture. you can do many things for under 50.00 if you let your imagination run free. try to think of non traditional uses for items you already have. with paint and fabric you can use everyday items you have and transform them into amazing accents for your home. an old birdcage painted to match your decor can be used as a plant hanger, a shelf for figurines or just storage.

I'm moving into a different bedroom soon and can redo it. The doors and trim are light/medium brown and the carpet is tan. I can paint the walls and get new furniture and stuff and I need to figure out a theme. I wanted to do an all white theme, but would that be weird with the brown and tan doors and carpet? (I can't paint the doors or change to carpet) or is the white theme lame? If so what are some other cool themes or color schemes? Thaaanks!

Answer
The all white bedroom is a great idea. Even with the bit of brown/tan you can still make this room relaxing and calm.
Here is an example :http://www.flickr.com/photos/melissm2007/4391887998/in/photostream/
You can use natural fiber headboard and add pieces like that to your room.

You can use roller shades on your windows in rattan .

I'm redecorating my teenage girl bedroom and I need help?

Janet

I am a teenage girl (13) and I'm moving into a bigger room. (It's like a mini-master bedroom,lol.)
I don't know the size of the bedroom but if it helps it has two windows and four walls.
I'm not buying new furniture except a desk and maybe seating.
I really want to decorate a room I will never outgrow till I move out.
Here are my questions:
1. What colors should I paint on the walls? (that matches everything)
2. What colors should I paint on the furniture? (that matches everything)
3. Are there any cute bedding out there? (preferably an inexpensive bed in a bag or quilt)
4. Are wall stickers recommended? List all of the pros and cons.
5. Are there any cool but cheap posters I could buy?
6. Are there any interesting area/accent rugs?
7. How can I organize my room?
8. Any other creative ways to decorate my room?

To make answering my question easier, I will tell you a little about myself.
I love animals especially dogs, cats, rabbits, and horses.
I am very passionate about writing stories.
I love to read, watch movies and TV shows, do art, and use the computer.
I am not necessarily a girly-girl but not a tomboy. (Though, I have more tomboy in me.)
I hate jewerly, makeup, and nail polish. (Dunno that would help with room makeovers.)
I am not into music, sports, and things like that.
I love my stuffed animals and I love candy =D

Thanks for answering and sorry if this is too long.

So fun to decorate and make a statement about you.Have plenty of shelves for all the books and stuffed animals. Iwill put some sites on for you.

What is fun about choosing a neutral color is that you can add pops of color in pillows, bedspreads, lamps, through rugs etc.

Using color wheels are fun and you can get ideas here. Start with your neutral and use the wheel to show pops of color

For me, it would have to be when I lived on the student apartments. The geniuses that designed the buildings decided to put ONE BATHROOM in each apartment, which had 4 bedrooms. So yeah, 4 guys, one bathroom. I was spraying Clorox on the floor every day.

And that's my story. What's yours? :D

Answer
I had a homeless guy approach me in a grocery store parking lot years ago. I'll never forget the sour stench. ::wrenches a little::

heh, that being said, maybe you'll enjoy me expounding a bit...he asked for money, which I of course asked him he needed it for. He kind of stood there wobbling drunk as he** then answered that he needed food. So I handed him a cup of noodles out of the trunk since I was putting groceries in the car. The confused drunken look on his face was priceless. He stood there again for about 30 seconds weaving about (not kidding) then handed them back to me and said he wouldn't eat them. I told him he must not be that hungry then....god I am cruel. Anyways, I promptly threw them away upon returning home. :)

Do they expect the celibate rule on catholic priests to be indefinite?

Glu

Because I don't really see any celibate priests or the myth of perfection through celibacy being mistaken for a "rational" choice anytime soon. At this rate I can bet you the Vatican itself will be "pro-gay" in 50 years, given that the Pope itself is always caucasian, and that by 2062 it will NOT be a harsh social reactionary as we understand one now.

Answer
As long as they stop child abuse... and it is not just boys ... girls get done over also and Nuns also abuse girls in their charge and the children even do it to the children.
I need to agree here ... I have been celibate myself before and I did it for a couple of years straight ... so it is not just an automatic link.
I don't think the churches will last that long but whatever happens ... lets just hope that they respect the kids and the adults and we all just get along.
I love all religions in their deep respect for a belief and their art and their lovely old buildings with such rich and colorful designs and feel that we as humans better forgive.
I forgive the Catlickers for what they did to me as a child and they were the only humans who ever cut my hair when I was a little girl ...so...they never meant to hurt me so deeply.
I hope everybody is not gay or we as the humans can't make kids ... but they still have a choice and it is not my business if they are or what they do in the bedroom.
Lets just hope peace rules???
I was born in 1962 ... so if I make it to 100 ... I will be very lucky indeed.

So we are moving to a new house with a large bathroom in the master bedroom and a smaller one on the main level in the hall. The one downstairs is of course them one everyone will use and see. He is dead set on having his own bathroom. It has a predation sink and a small corner shelf with no door. To me, that's for decor. I feel the main bathroom should appear unused and look nice. I suggested we hang a cabinet to hide his daily essentials. It's literally turned into a fight. He feels deodorant, face lotion, a razor and toothbrush in the open is fine. I disagree and he's refusing to compromise. So frustrated. May sound childish and insignificant but I'm looking for a way to make him realize it's about looking presentable. Help?!

Answer
Give up this fight. There are some things that are worth fighting about in a relationship, and some which are not. Let him have his own bathroom and keep the OTHER one looking nice. If guests come, direct them to the clean, decorated, uncluttered bathroom and leave his alone. In fact, you could hang a sign on the door of his bathroom that says "MEN ONLY". Because I guarantee you that not a single one of his friends will care if they see his personal stuff out like that. This war is not worth waging over a few personal items--and the lack of nagging and "rules" will make your relationship a lot less stressful.

OR--you could stick a small basket in that bathroom for those items--that way they aren't in a closed cabinet, he can still get to them, and all anyone wlll notice is the basket--not the stuff in it. But only put it in there when you actually have guests--and tell him it's just temporary so your guests don't mess up his personal stuff; then when the guests leave, take it out and put his stuff back.

You could also let him know that every time you flush a toilet, the water droplets from the flush get ALL OVER the toothbrush. So at least ask him if he would like you to get him a covered container for that item. Your toothbrush should be at least 5 feet away from any toilet. That goes for BOTH bathrooms. Knowing that might gross him out enough to at least keep that item out of sight and out of germs' way.

What is a good way to tell my neighbour?

Answer
There are lots, & all have their pros & cons.

My personal list:

Bassett - for upholstery & bedroom. Not a better value anywhere.

La-Z-Boy - for recliners & upholstery. Not a better value anywhere. Great company.

Pottery Barn - for table, lighting, linens, rugs. Not too thrilled with their upholstery for the money.

Arhaus - unique items. Their vision & presentation exceeds their quality.

Value City - for tables & other occasional pieces. Bedroom. Kid's furniture. Beyond an accent chair, don't buy upholstery there.

Anthropologie - when you love it so much it doesn't matter what it costs. Just hanging out marvelling at the visuals is contentment enough for me. They have great pulls & knobs. And bathroom stuff. Their furniture is something to aspire to on many levels. We just pray for sales. THE most unique & creative of all stores

Stickley - if you have enough money & like their look, this is great stuff. Not all is American Made anymore, so be sure you know what you're looking at.

Ethan Allen - quality has changed over the years, so I would proceed with caution. But their upholstery & leather are still top notch quality. Like the rest of the furniture industry, imports have invaded them also & it shows. The owner is brilliant & hires only the best designers. I like their business model a lot.

Thomasville - they're in trouble & in limbo. They have no identity, nowhere they're going. They were going for oversized & gaudy & still think the have a market for that in this casual society. If they don't right the ship with a new image, they'll be gone in 5 yrs.

IMHO, there's no ONE store. They all have their highs & lows. I recommend to buy wisely from them all

Restoration Hardware - if you can get past their focus on hardware & fixtures, they have some pretty awesome furniture, but it's not presented well in my experience. And not very interested sales people.

can someone find me furniture to go with this bed?

What color would you paint your room if it was in the basement?!?

bedroom decor canada
on Kid Bedroom Furniture Canada Bedroom Decor Ideas
bedroom decor canada image
Q. I'm moving my room into my basement. It's bigger, has a walk-in closet, it's nice and cold, it has wood floors and the tv works in the room.

The only bad thing is that since it's in the basement there's only one tiny small window.

I want to redo this room. Right now it's a dark/bright pink. It looks horrible, but when I was younger I wanted to paint it that color.

So yeah, what color would you paint your room if it was in the basement? Or what color do you think I should paint it?

ALSO could you tell me any nice room decor/furniture that I can purchase in Canada that would look nice in my room?
So from stores like Ikea and Sears and Walmart... etc.

Thankyou so much if you could help :)

Answer
Before you move your bedroom into the basement, check the building and fire codes in your area.

Most building and fires codes do not allow for bedrooms in basements that do not have an egress window.

Besides forbidden by code, which can mean a huge fine for the homeowners, it is simply not safe to sleep in a place from where you have no way out but the basement stairs.

Should a fire break out, whoever sleeps in the basement without an egress will be trapped in there.

An egress window can be installed easily and some egress have a clear well that will add some much needed natural light to the room.

As for the color choice, remember that any color applied to the basement, because of the lack of natural light, will look at least two tones darker. I suggest you buy color samples (most hardware stores sell them) and test in the basement, to see what effect you can get.

Can someone explain to me how to make a bed?

Glenn

Hi,

The winter is coming and the weather is getting colder each day, and I am planning to buy a good blanket, but I am totally lost with all the terms thrown around when I was looking through Amazon.com store.

For example, what are "down" "duvet" "comforter" "blanket" "cover"? What are the difference between those??

I am looking for a blanket that has feathers in it, such that it is fluffy. And I will also need some kind of cover to protect said blanket so it does not get dirty.

Can someone help me explain those things and guide me to what items I need to get?

Thanks!

Glenn

Answer
I don't blame you for being confused. This is really mind boggling and all manufacturers call things different they are even called different things in the US from state to state and in Canada it's another animal entirely.

So I could bore you for hours but let me give you a 5 minute education. It will be worth your time please bear with me.

1. You want a down comforter also called a duvet in a medium weight box stitch. There are fill powers meaning the better the down the littler and better quality the feathers are and more expensive. The box stitch (baffle) keeps the feathers from slipping when cleaning. For a full or queen plan to spend about $ 150.00 on sale ..January is when bedding goes on clearance if you can wait till then ( January white sales) You want one well made so the feathers don't make snow in your bedroom. You want one that you can machine wash. They will also say the OZ which is a funky measurment you want 40 - 42oz.

2. Heavy weight is only meant for camping and if you keep your heat in the house at 45 or 50F at night. Light weight is for the hotter months when you have the AC cranked.

3. Fill power under 500 is economy quality over 500 is good quality 600 better quality 700 best quality 800....is only produced in 2 places in the world and super expensive.

4. Duvet cover sets make sure they are machine washable. They come with 2 shams and a huge empty pillowcase looking thing for the Comforter/Duvet.

5. If your bed is a full get one that will fit a queen. You will have the comforter for many many years you want it to fit a larger bed if you get one.

This would be a good one to purchase http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=328090&trackingCat=28898&cmexplore=&PseudoMasterProdID=318355&PseudoCat=28898

This would not be good as it is dry clean only http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=512980&CategoryID=28898

As far as a duvet cover. Get what ever fits your decor. Make sure it can be washed. They close with zippers or buttons or ribbon or velcro. Velcro can be a pain as it needs to be picked out after a while.

The only other information I can tell you is there are some people that are alergic to down. Make sure you and your sleeping partener are not. The best down alternative fill is 100% organic cotton.

Care if this comforter means you wash it seasonally. Drying it will take 2 cycles. Put clean tennis balls in the dryer to fluff it. Take it out of the dryer shake and stuff it back in several times during the drying process so it does not get over heated in one area.

I live in Canada. It's currently -28F outside. I hate cold. We keep the heat 62F at night. We use a medium weight down and flannel or microfiber sheets in the winter and it's toasty under that cover that feels like air :)

How do I get my room to have a tribal feel to it?

Grace

My bedroom is bright green, and my bedspread is tribal-ish. I have no money and I want to make my bedroom look cool and African/Egyptian/Indian/Native American. Basically, I just want it to look ethnic and or vintage. If you have any ideas on diy projects or anything that would be a big help.

Answer
Try hanging some wood beads that you could get for like 4 dollars at a native ish store and then on the walls or decorate with feathers you could find in the forest for any other place.
Or if you have any old wood furniture then you could try that, or look for some old stuff in the attic or basement that could be helpfull.

It seems to me like polka dots would work and maybe balloons too.

Baby Shower Ideas for Butterfly/Fairy Theme?

Eleanor

My friend & I are throwing a baby shower for my friend's sister in law. She's 8 months preggers & having a girl. The theme is either butterflies or fairies (Natalie wants fairies, we want butterflies for the easier ideas). Any suggestions on food, decor, prizes and games? I have some ideas, but im not really sure at this point. The date for the shower is Feb 21.
Colors are lavender, plum & yellow. & thanks for that cute suggestion Brady's mom!

Answer
What a pretty theme!!

You could get little butterflies (from the dollar store or something) and place them all over the room where the party will be.. in plants, on picture frames, over doors... ect.. and not tell the guests about them. Obviously they'll notice some here and there, but near the end of the shower, pass out a piece of paper and pen and tell them to close there eyes and mark down the number of butterflies they think are hidden in the room. The closest one wins a prize. Use butterlies like these: http://img.alibaba.com/photo/11302411/Nylon_Butterflies_Dragonflies_Flowers_Mobiles.jpg to decorate.

Can you tell me some ways to organize a kid's room in a pretty way?

Answer
Creating a jungle theme kids bedroom is an opportunity to use really fun colors and prints. Consider painting the room a fresh green or a bright yellow to provide a warm and exotic backdrop for the rest of the room's elements.

Instead of typical window treatments, think about getting some silk vines and foliage from the craft store and draping them around the windows as you would with a scarf curtain. Then perch stuffed parrots or monkeys nearby to round out the jungle canopy effect.

You can use jungle themed bedding, or simply use bright solids and stripes, and accent the room with throw pillows in animal-print fabrics. There are several sources for wall stickers in a jungle theme to add even more visual interest.

Fairy Tale Princess Themes

Many elements of décor for little girls' rooms lend themselves to dreaming of once upon a time and far, far away. From canopy beds to eyelet and lace and pale pink, you may already have many of the elements in place to make your daughter's room a real Princess's room. To bring the fantasy one or two step closer to reality, rely on some paint techniques and a few choice accessories.

Paint the ceiling a sky blue and sponge paint on some clouds; turn the walls of your girl's room into castle walls with faux painting techniques, and embellish them with stenciled runners of ivy â you can even add some silk ivy from the craft store for additional dimension. Swath tulle or silk flowers where you'd otherwise put a valance and curtains, and be sure to add a stuffed frog prince someplace in the room ⦠just for a bit of whimsy!

We have an older four poster oak bedroom set-its sturdy and well made and I just cant bring myself to get rid of it. I would really love to spice up my bedroom decor but cant figure out what would go well with the brown oak "country style" bedroom set. Im more into a contemporary or eclectic look now and I need help with some options...thanks.

Answer
I had a Lane bedroom set. It was solid oak and gorgeous. It had a canopy bed, triple dresser, armoire and two nightstands. I had that set for at least 30 years and it looked like new.

But times and tastes change and I wanted something more modern or at least "different".

Trust me, nothing you do to that "country style" set is going to satisfy you if your taste has changed. Bite the bullet and let it go. I sold my old set reasonably to someone that loved it as much as I did when it was new so I knew it went to a good home.

I then bought a new set that is just what I wanted at this point in my life. I don't go for the "sturdy, well made" (translated "really expensive") stuff anymore (I'm not talking about buying junk either, I got my new set at Ashley) because then you have it forever and get tired of it. If you take good care of whatever you buy it will last you for as long as you love it. Then, when you don't "love it" anymore you won't feel so bad to let it go.

Life is short, you deserve to have what makes you happy today!!

Edited: I work for a store that sells furniture wholesale and I update their catalogs. Believe me when I tell you that if you paint the "country" furniture black, it's going to look like black "country" furniture (I see hundreds of sets of black "country" furniture). Country is country is country. If you try to put modern stuff in, on and around your "country" stuff, it's going to scream "she's trying not to look country, but it's country with modern stuff". It won't go. I had country decorating in my home. My husband bought me a baby grand piano. When they bought it in and set it down amidst my "country" stuff, you could almost hear the piano saying "What's all this stuff?" I had to change my decor to go with the piano (much more sophistocated victorian). Modern stuff has clean lines and there is no way to make country stuff look modern.

I'll say it again, life is short, get what you really want and enjoy it.

I want to paint my bedroom black, not so much on the gothic side, but like chic? ideas?

lol

i saw it somewhere and i loved it but i cant remember like the rest of the decor. should i go all white or gold, something different ya know.

Answer
Black can be cool if you mix it with bright, girly, and edgy colors. Like, all your furniture, bedspread, etc. could be hot pink or yellow. But seriously? Probably will get depressing after a while. And when you get sick of it, it'll take a lot of coats of paint to cover it up! Probably not the best idea....

Hi - have a look on these sites to give you some ideas:

To make some of the pictures above - all you need is some remnant pieces of fabric or, you could always use a pillowcase to match your bedding and buy say, a couple of canvasses and wrap the fabric around the canvass and just staple it to the back.

You might also like these wall decals that do not leave marks when taken off:

Good bedroom decoration ideas?

Kara

I'm a 14 year old girl and I don't really like my room. My room is just medium sized and I only have my twin bed, bean bag chair, dresser, and big bookcase in it. I kind of want a polka dot theme, so I'm just wondering what some good ways to decorate would be. I think I might take some CDs and make them into circles and hang them around a picture board(not sure what its called. It's kinda like a cork board but has fabric and you just stick pictures around that). I can't buy stuff that's too expensive so things that are more affordable would be better.
Thanks!
Ps I love DIY projects so anything like that is awesome!

Answer
Check out Pinterest!
If you don't have one, make one, but you don't need one to view content.
I have a DIY board that I'll give you the link to.

Good luck!

What color goes with Mauve colored carpeting? Redecorating Bedroom?

I am redecorating my bedroom, but I already have a mauve (real light burgundy) carpet, my bedroom was done in various colors of purple. Now I want to change the decor and bedding. What other colors go with this carpet color besides neutrals?

Answer
Hiâ¥

I love matching colors and putting things together and I'd love to help.

First of all, mauve is a beautiful color. It's true that purple goes best with mauve, but there are other colors that match just as well.

I know you don't want neutral colors, but white and black go really with this color. White makes the color seem lighter and gives a carefree and happy-go-lucky look to the room, while black seems more mature and sophisticated. Both of them rock my socks!

Green and mauve: number one combination. At least, for me.

Go to this website:
http://www.eternasilk.com/EternaSilk_swatchcard5.htm

I don't know what shade of mauve you have, but I'm thinking number 4160 Grass Green Dark is just a rich, beautiful color that will go really well with mauve.

A bright, lime green would also be nice, but you could also use lots of different shades of green and red to give some variety to the room.

If you go with the green, use some white to compliment the colors. White trimming on the wall, white bedsheet, white frames and artwork. In the end, you'll have a really nice, well color schemed bedroom.

If you don't want to go with green, I still have other combinations for you, so don't worry!

Mauve will look nice with a bit of orange, perhaps in this shade:

Look at the bottle of bright orange.

Wow. It just looks so bright and wonderful that it would really lift the spirits of anyone who walks into the room.

Compliment the orange and mauve room with light shades of grey/gray (however you spell it). Orange, mauve, gray.

Sigh. Wonderful :)

Pink and mauve: also really cute. Though some shades will just make you feel like throwing up, others really work.

http://www.colourlovers.com/blog/2007/08/29/forbidden-color-combinations/

Scroll down on this website until you get to the pink and mauve color swatches.

When I saw them, I was like WOW! Forbidden colors really DO work when someone puts their mind to it.

My fave ones are: Quiet and Comfort and Plum Splat.

Plan your room along these lines if you want a sort of girly look.

If you're going for a bright look, yellow. I'd say yellow would be the second best choice.

(After green, of course. But I think I'm a bit biased because green is my fave color :P)

Yellow, mauve and a bit of flowery, primrose pink.

Use a lot of bright yellow, but if you want to tone it down a bit, use a pale, bananaish color.

Use pink here and there to add some more color to the room.

I'm all out of color schemes here, but I hope I helped. If you need more help, just email me at: aquastar_noor@hotmail.com

Good luck!

All those lurking interior designers. Any ideas on how to do a City styled room?

Anastacia

I want to do a room design in sort of a city scape. But I don't know where to start. All I have right now is a massive grey room. Does anyone have ideas on how to do a city-esque room? Or can you provide links? I've been searching around, and I haven't found anything good, except for a red phone booth idea for the door.

Thanks for the help!
I'm looking for either New York or London. A very grungy city design to be more specific.

Modern expensive, but still when you walk into the room you can tell that it is a highschool girls room. PLEASE HELP!!

Answer
Go to IKEA. They have so many fun items that are fantastic prices. I am doing a client's gameroom right now and we just painted it a beautiful orange as well. I did a cream slipcovered sofa, black and cream ticking chairs, a red-berry color on the barstools and accents in all of the colors above as well as a muted lime green and aqua. It is not installed yet but it will be great!

Bedroom ideas for a 17 year old girl?

Now I noticed how much decor is lacking in my room and I wanted to change that. I have a kind of classy taste but at the same time I wanted to add some subtle things from
Disney movies. Like the little mermaid, beauty and the beast, tangled, Aladdin, Snow white, sleeping beauty. etc.

I don't want anything directly related to the movies, but more of indirect things and how they would fit into bedroom decor. Thanks, and I'm sorry for the vague, weird question.

Answer
get the room painted in coral or soft pink, turquoise etc colors. add up the brightness with dark color carpet or rug. like bright pink, purple etc. if you don't like the bright color you can stick to soft colors but you can put printed curtains to glam up the room.
make sure you choose one theme. since you are 17 you can choose snow white, sleeping beauty. pink and off white will be perfect colors. go for decorated mirrors, crowns as your table lamp, fur couch etc.
oh and this is not an weird question every teens thinks about it. its very normal. bring life to your dreams and you will see how beautiful your room gets.

My fiance and I want to decorate our bedroom with a horse racing theme. Where can we find ideas or bedding?

jellybean5

We want to decorate with rich colors, using racing prints and/or jockey silks. However, we cannot find any site with bedroom decor ideas. The only thing we can find is western decor, NOT racing decor. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, any ideas on wall color would be helpful. Thanks in advance!!

Answer
Best bet might be to look into steeplechase patterns/design or showjumping. Ralph Lauren has an entire line of paints called Thoroughbred. And you could use Ralph's Antiqued Leather finish throughout the room too!

As for racing theme, contact your local race track! They may be able to give you ideas or even hook you up with some genuine stuff!
