in my room i have a bedroom set of a highboy, dresser and a bed board thing. on the back of the highboy it says "LIT BROTHERS PHILA PA" and has some numbers that all i can find from what it says (faded) is: 083436 and 01880? My mother thinks that its style is Queene Anne. We tried doing research on various website but none of what we find matches up to the dresser high boy or twin sized bed boards. I am trying to sell it so I can buy new furnituree but we cant figure out what to price it as or what to call it! OR EVEN WHAT YEAR IT WAS MADE IN! sooo i seen prices of furniture like it and It goes from (least) $300- (highest so far) $25,600. so you can tell im confused and i have learned alot about the lit brothers but almost nothing about my set of furniture! Help please!!!!! :)
i need to know how much it is. and when it was made.

Answer
maybe a little bit depending on the condition, as you can see the queen anne Style was a bit earlier than the department store this stuff came from , it was probably a revival type furniture, it still is a department store furniture but at the same time almost a 100 years old...

good luck in your hunt

Lit Brothers was a moderate priced department store based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Samuel and Jacob Lit opened the first store at Eight and Market Streets in 1893.

Lit's positioned itself well as a more affordable alternate to competitors, Strawbridge and Clothier, Wanamaker's, and Gimbels. The store's tag line was "A Great Store in A Great City", and it was noted for its millinery department. It was purchased in 1928 by Albert M. Greenfield's Bankers Securities Corporation and was eventually merged into its City Stores Company (now CSS Industries, Inc.), a retail holding company consisting of stores located in urban centers throughout the south and east such as the W & J Sloane furniture store, and the Washington, D.C.âbased department store chain Lansburgh's. In 1962, they purchased the suburban locations of Snellenburg's, another Philadelphia department store chain owned by Bankers Securities Corporation, which was closed in 1963. The Lit Brothers chain subsequently closed in 1977

A Queen Anne style furniture is a style of furniture design that developed during and around the reign of Anne, Queen of Great Britain (1702-1714). Queen Anne furniture is "somewhat smaller, lighter, and more comfortable than its predecessors," and examples in common use include "curving shapes, the cabriole leg, cushioned seats, wing-back chairs, and practical secretary desk-bookcase pieces." Other elements characterizing the style include pad feet and "an emphasis on line and form rather than ornament."In Britain, the style of Queen Anne's reign is frequently described as "late Baroque" rather than "Queen Anne," while in the United States the term "Queen Anne" describes decorative styles from the mid-1720s to around 1760, although Queen Anne reigned earlier.

The cabriole leg has been described as "the most recognizable element" of Queen Anne furniture. Cabriole legs were influenced by the designs of the French cabinetmaker André-Charles Boulle and the Rococo style from the French court of Louis XV . But the intricate ornamentation of post-Restoration furniture was abandoned in favor more conservative designs, possibly under the influence of the simple and elegant lines of imported Chinese furniture.

In addition to simple curvilinear lines and cabriole leg, Queen Anne chairs are characterized by vasiform splats and frequently featured a horseshoe shape. Other important decorative elements included carved shell and scroll motifs, often found on the crest and knees. Wingback chairs, variations on other Queen Anne-style chairs, are fully upholstered with the exception of the exposed wood legs and have sides folded inward to keep heat contained within the chair. All four of the cabriole legs legs sit on padded feet. The shoulders of the back droop slightly to give a more feminine look to the style, in contrast to the squared shoulders of the masculine King George wingback chair.

The Queen Anne style was a continuation of the William and Mary style of furniture design

What did the bedroom of an average teenage girl look like in the 60s?

Like, can you describe to me what was in it etc..
I'm redecorating my room and I'm going for sixties style :)
Thanks. Your answers are much appreciated.

(My room is tiny btw so I don't have that much space)

Answer
I was a teenager in the 60s and my room was pretty typical of all my friends' rooms.....the walls and much of the ceiling were completely papered with photos (clipped from fan magazines) of my favorite bands and singers of the era. Didn't matter what color the walls were painted 'cause I hadn't seen them in a very long time. The floor was brown tile but much of the time covered with clothes, shoes, books and more magazines. The bed was covered with a blue and white quilt made by my grandma and about a dozen stuffed animals won at carnivals. And accessories consisted of several dozen LP albums, a large rack of 45s, a record player, a clock radio and several shelves of sci-fi and other books. Not the kind of decor one would find in Better Homes and Gardens but it was typical, comfortable and my haven. We weren't much concerned with fancy trimmings back then....I'll bet mine was smaller than yours....8'x9.5'....how's that for tiny?

Decoration tips and ideas for a 14 year old teenager's bedroom?

I have a small messy room that i hate It is sky blue and has virtually no furniture that I use
I want to somehow incorporate an Asian/soccer theme into my room and the wall color idea I was leaning towards was like a sage but slightly lighter
ANYWAY!- I need some ideas please and perhaps where to find affordable bedroom furniture
Thnx!

Answer
I shop at Goodwill, Salvation army, and browse the furniture for sale ads in the newspaper. If you are going to look for the bed at a second-hand store, then don't worry about the color because you can add paint to change the look completely. I am not sure about an Asian/soccer theme, but here are some links for you to see Asian comforters online - http://www.domestications.com or http://www.domestications.com/dept.asp?N=0&Ne=1&Nu=p_RollupKey&Ntx=mode%2Bmatchallpartial&Ntk=all_fields&dept_id=0&Ntt=asian&issearch=1&Image2.x=11&Image2.y=10. Hee is another company - http://brylane.com. This link will take you to a comforter that is not Asian but it includes your sage and with some Asian artwork you can make it look Asian - http://brylane.com/decor/Regatta-Comforter-Set.aspxPfId=170069&DeptId=15166&ProductTypeId=1&PurchaseType=0
I suggest getting the comforter and window treatments and then decide on a color for your wall. For Japanese style decor, natural tones of brown, grey, and tan are popular. Accents in most Asian decors include gold, either as trim or wall color. Also, try to include bamboo.

Right now my room is white walls black furniture this ugly red trim, laddice(the thing used outdoors for like flowers or fencing) and my mom also put up a half wall of this same ugly color of wood it's weird and o hate it. My decor is Paris and all of its black and or white. I hate this room it is boring and depressing. I can get decor my only problem is I'm not allowed to paint. How do I spice this room up?

Answer
i think jenny's idea are pretty good, at the end of the day you want to be sure that it is you and what you want. especially with a bedroom you want to make sure it has your personality. my little sister is pretty crazy about holidays and she got some small decorations from homeseasons.com and she likes it.

Would these colors look okay together with zebra in a bedroom?

Bella

Okay so I want to paint my walls Hot Pink and Black...I'm having all black furniture... Would it look okay to have lime green decor in it? Or would that be too much? THANKS!

Answer
Depends on whether it's some zebra pillows, or a lot more pattern than that. A lime green glass piece would be fine, but with black walls and furniture, I'd rather see more white.

What kind of toy chest should I buy?

Jellybean

Any recommendations? pictures?

I've looked on Walmart and Target's websites and I don't know whether to get a nice wood toy chest or a little tikes plastic one.

Thanks!

Answer
I agree with New Momma. For a family/entertaining area, a wood chest would look nicer.
My daughter's room had a nice wooden chest that went with her bedroom set. I figured when she outgrew toys, it would be good for storage or maybe a hope chest. It turned out to be great for storing out-of-season clothes, blankets etc.
My son's room had a particle board toy chest. It had sliding doors painted with green chalkboard paint, and went with the Ninja Turtle theme he had in his room at the time. We couldn't really repurpose it when he grew, but it was relatively inexpensive and he loved it.
I'll give you a tip I learned from my son. Small action figures and Hot Wheels will always find their way to the bottom of the toy chest. My son had to take everything out to find them. For Christmas the next year, he asked me for something easier to put small things in to keep them organized. I came across a small 3-tier stacking bin on wheels. It was in bright, primary colors, and he could roll it in and out of his closet to save space in his small room. He could put Hot Wheels in one bin, action figures in another, and Legos in the other. It worked perfectly, and he loved it! So consider some sort of bin system if your child has small toys like these.
Other than that, it's just a matter of preference, and what works with your decor and household. Little Tykes is undeniably durable, and made for kids, so it would work well. Any chest will serve the purpose, just make sure the lid is not too heavy, is hinged in such a way so that it won't slam shut on little fingers or pinch them, and stays open while they are rooting around in there. Your child's toys are likely to outgrow the toy bin, so don't be afraid to repurpose plastic laundry baskets for the excess. They are lightweight, work magnificently, can be easily carried from room-to-room, and shoved into a closet out of sight when not in use.
Hope these suggestions help!

Where can I get cheap things to decorate my sons room?

Consentida

Ok I'm moving to a new apartment and my son is going to finally get his own bedroom. He just turned 4 years old and I have no idea where to look for cheap things to decorate his room. His favorite characters are disney cars and thomas the train..me and my husband are on a budget...and we all know disney cars and thomas are not cheap. so any ideas?

Answer
I would avoid the actual Disney charecter stuff. Not only is it a little expensive, there is a good change he'll complain it is too babyish in two years. Plus, he already had toys with those charecters.

To save money, get stuff you could see in an 8 year old's room.

Bedding I think works for a 4 year old and an older boy:

For wall art, posters make a big impression. I reccomend picking posters that will fit in frames the same color as the furniture. That way later on you can just change the posters.

If the furniture is dark brown in his room, you can get this frame set for $30 http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=16566594&RN=88 You could get these:

I need ideas on how to paint my boys bedroom?

sonia s

I have 2 boys (ages 7 & 4) that share a fairly large bedroom. I want to paint it with some cool design that they'll like now and when they get older. Any suggestions would be great.

Answer
The best ideas I've found for boys bedrooms are http://boysthemebedrooms.com/. There are some great themes that you can do by purchasing or making the items shown. I also found this site (http://www.decorating-kids-rooms.net/bedroom-themes-for-children.html) which talks specifically about "How To Create Bedroom Themes For Children That Grow With Your Child".

Right now it seems to be that for your 4 and 7 year olds, a pirate theme would be fantastic. Maybe paint a wall mural of a beach and sunset on one wall. Then as they grow older they can add things to it - like kids playing sports on the beach, pirate treasure in the sand, or just enjoying the peaceful scene.

You know your kids and their interests - have a ball with them and let them decide. My daughter loves pirates and Egyptians. So I'm focusing on the treasure and tying the two interests together that way.

Websites for bedroom furniture?

I want new bedroom furniture. I like dark colors, modern, simple, teenager style, and comfortable. Do you know any websites where they might sell furniture like this. It doesn't have to be everything I listed, but pretty close. I'd also like it if the website had a desk that matches the bedroom set. Nothing too pricey (under $2,500) and pretty good quality. Thank You!

Also, if you know a website where I can find accessories (lamps, sheets, ect.), then pleas list! Thanks again.

Answer
There are lots of websites with lots of product. The problem is the price doesn't always match the quality. If you plan on only keeping your furniture for 1 to 5 years and treat your furniture with kid gloves Ikea may be a good choice, however, ask anyone that has had Ikea furniture for a while or attempted to move it. It tends to auto destruct upon moving. Those cam lock type assembly hardware just don't like to be moved. What makes it fairly inexpensive is what makes it poor quality. The whole thing is about freight and warehouse space. This should NOT YOUR PROBLEM. In my humble opinion, virtually all assemble yourself furniture is inferior quality mostly made of particleboard filled with formaldehyde. My family and I have been in the furniture business both manufacturing and retailing for over 60 years. Our retail store went on line almost 20 years ago. I understand both manufacturing and retailing. I sell what I make every day of the week in my store. Consider checking out a local store with less than 5 to 10 stores. in my experience the larger the chain, the poorer the quality and service. Also, in this difficult housing market, many both large and small stores are struggling and over 20,000 retail furniture stores both large and small have gone out of in business in the last 18 months. PAY BY CREDIT CARD for a little protection. I have noticed fairly good quality furniture in Costco. In the STORE not on line. It is very seasonal for them and the selection is very limited but well priced and good quality. Also please check out our website and blog @ www.barnfurniture.com

What color goes good with a coral bedroom?

I painted my bedroom a light coral color a couple months ago and I don't know what color goes good with it. I want to buy things to put in my bedroom (like picture frames, candles, figurines, etc). My furniture is all white. What color would go good with it? Thanks!

Answer
Look at the 1950's, coral was a popular color.
For contrast, vivid turquoise (more blue than green) oriental red (a dark orange-red) or black.
For complement, softer turquoise, off-white (closer to beige) or grey.
Asian decor almost always sets well with coral.

Does anyone have any pictures or ideas for a techno-style bedroom?

adagio_75

My 15 year old sister-in-law wants to change her bedroom design from a mostly leopard print theme to techno. I want to help her but I really don't know what techno design for a room would look like. She doesn't have alot of money to completely refurnish the room so items like her leopard print area rug, leopard print lamp shades and picture frames will have to be used. Any ideas or pictures would be great.

Answer
When I think of a techno style bedroom I think of lots of fun bright cheery colors with nice white sleek backdrop. For a techno styled bedroom; you could do a modern look. Go for clean, straight lines if possible. I would go for a white or neutral backdrop with pops of color. If some new furniture pieces are in your budget look for white furniture (bed frame, dresser, desk, nightstand)or you can repurpose old furniture and paint it white. For accessories look for bright colors like orange (for a lamp; canât afford a new lamp you can take an existing lamp, sand it down and spray paint it in an high gloss orange (or whatever bright colors she likes), yellow (picture frames, pillows), and green (pillows, vases for flowers, etc.). If she doesnât like those colors, you can do any color combo that she will like. You can find a cheap/good looking area rug @ Wal-mart in white, but if you donât look for white (or another color) bath rugs and connect them together with carpet tape to make a large area rug. You can also change out the lamp shades for a cheap cost or you can cover existing lamp shades with fabric to match the new room décor. For the walls you can blow up her favorite DJ album covers and frame them; or you can get vector silhouettes of DJâs like this : http://garcya.us/blog/free-dj-vector-graphic-art/ or http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/2286211/2/istockphoto_2286211_dj_at_turntable or http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/4306917/2/istockphoto_4306917_dj_silhouette.jpg or http://www.smashingmagazine.com/images/iconsnew/bittbox.jpg http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/5671904/2/istockphoto_5671904_beach_party.jpg or images like these and have them blown up to put them on the walls. You can also blow up varying silhouettes of dancers and put them on the wall (http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/5753237/2/istockphoto_5753237_spring_girl.jpg http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/5768186/2/istockphoto_5768186_just_wanna_have ). Also music notes and headphones (http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/5481959/2/istockphoto_5481959_grunge_headphones.jpg http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/5802696/2/istockphoto_5802696_headphones.jpg http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/5881226/2/istockphoto_5881226_hand_drawn_musik_retro.jpg would be a cool option also. For bedding you can do something simple like white with a bright colored throw and pillows or bright colored bedding with white pillows and one bright colored accent pillow. Also for bedding you can do bedding in a fun solid color and do an image transfer of her favorite DJ or techno image. Hope this gives you a few ideas, good luck :)

My bedroom is quite small (2.5 x 2.8 meters) and I don't really like it, I might be getting a new carpet; it is green and I have had it since I was born! I don't think I can paint my walls as I got them done about 2 years ago, they are this colour (this is off google, not my bedroom!!)

http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.thisarchitecture.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/purple-fireplaces-wall-color-2011.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.thisarchitecture.com/interior-decor/purple-home-apartment-wall-color-2011-ideas/&usg=__zGmzCHsIiXteeGUNlulGRSQLQbk=&h=500&w=500&sz=54&hl=en&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=kB4-01-Liql67M:&tbnh=158&tbnw=162&ei=51y5TaDJCciAhQfHm5yEDw&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dpurple%2Bwall%2Bcolor%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26biw%3D1366%26bih%3D625%26tbm%3Disch&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=137&vpy=76&dur=239&hovh=225&hovw=225&tx=123&ty=96&page=1&ndsp=18&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0

And I have a very big beige wardrobe, white bed which isn't very good, and some shelves which match the colour of the wardrobe, and also a pink rug.. I really want to change it, some cool storage ideas, nice ways to display photo's.. Just some really cool ways to make my bedroom more teenagerish! Or interesting furniture etc, thank you!

By the way I am a 13 year old girl.
Thanks :)

Answer
For small rooms use one color palette and pick bright color to open up the space. If you use the same color for accessories, but experiment more with the color intensity, you will add more depth and liven up your room. Best colors for big rooms are warm and dark. To highlight some points in the room youâre free to use bold colors for decorations or ornaments on the walls, but be careful to not use the same color throughout the whole room.

There are few rules for the proper placement of pictures on the walls. When you pick the right picture for the right wall always remember that it should occupy not more than 2/3 of the free space above your furniture. Leave an arm space above the back of the furniture and the bottom of the picture. Keep the pictures at the height of eyesight, although it is also acceptable to put them at seated eye level.

You donât have to add extra lighting to make your room look brighter. Use white or bright, neutral colors on your walls and/ or floor. Create natural light reflections with such objects as mirrors, picture frames with glass, decorations made of crystals etc. Donât try to frame the window with curtains, but install them on the wall next to the window to make it look bigger.

Arrange some extra storage space under your bed or in the corners of the room. Create a focal point in your room - an object that attracts the eye and gives a feeling of order. Focal point can be a distinctive piece of furniture or decoration. It will create a theme for the room and you should follow it if youâre planning to make some additional decorations. Use mirrors to make your room look more spacey.

From dolls to shampoos to clothes to shoes to accessories to bedrooms to movies to kitchen appliances (I know!) to beauty items to make-up to online games to websites to video games to tv series to backpacks and everything else! What's next: A real Barbie car for a human! (Don't tell me they already made that!)

I want my GI-NORMOUS, multi-billion international business/corporation to be better then The Barbie/Bratz Company and I will aim the audience specifically at tween and teen girls And plus I'll call it something else (well duh!). I'm probably thinking of calling mine Girly Girls or something like that! I want to be the next Doll Diva!!!!

How do I get started, I am completely CLUELESS!?

Sorry if I seem unspecific!
But how do I get things planned out!!!!!!!!!!!!

Answer
You'll have to come up with a name... and something that hasn't been done... or well, redo something that's already been done, like Bratz did... when then whole "Barbie's figure is unattainable" thing came out... there were the Bratz, and well, they do look different. When someone starts complaining about Bratz being ... well, whatever it is they'll be when it comes time... take the ideas you've come up with, and adapt them to fix that problem... of if you don't want to wait that long... find a group of girls (at your school, your friends, little sisters of friends... etc...) ask them what they want in a barbie/bratz like doll.

And, when you're 15 (the legal age to get a part time job...at least in Tx...don't know about other states... would think it's the same...?) get one, and get a credit card... and PAY IT OFF EVERY MONTH... to build your credit, that way when you're ready you'll have impeccable credit to get a loan (if you need it... and bad credit never hurts anything, anyway.) to start up your business.

Answer
here are some ideas i suggested before:
Hollywood:
You could have it be where people dress like movie stars or have it red carpet semi formal where the birthday girl steals the show in a red gown with gloves. They have really super cheap decorations at party cheap for this and you can get cheap hollywood scene setter background large plastic murals at fun4parties.com. Black, gold, Silver latex balloons and they also sell hollywood mylar balloon at partycheap. They sell a red carpet there. Check the length what you need.. We used it and it was fine, goes down with tape included (leaves a sticky tape mark, need a light adhesive remover to remove the sticky tape mark). Have the party at a time where you dont have to serve dinner just appetizers and if renting somewhere, sundays are cheapest. We just had our hollywood party and veggie tray did not go over well. Fruit tray went over really well. Taco dip and chips went over very, very well and had to be restocked twice. Also silver dollar sandwiches or rolls were perfect, hand sized. I saw the buns at the store and you can easily make these. For favors we bought the gold and black mardi gras beads at oriental trading, and also from there directors clapboard keychains, and star trophy that we personalized. We also bought a sweet 16 plastic candy mold and pink melting chips and made lollipops, just melt the chips, spoon into mold and freeze for 5 minuttes. The lollipop bags are 2.00 for 100 and come clear with ties. You use them for the favors andethe suckers. We made our own hollywood favor tags using the microsoft works business card maker section. use white cardstock that is very cheap for a few sheets at the craft store. Insert a movie clipart or save a hollywood image from google image to your picture folder and then insert. Buy marilyn monroe, humphrey bogart, audrey hepburn etc. posters. And next to the picture right Sarah's sweet 16 or whatever. We bought a marilyn stand up poster and paris hilton (someone the teens relate to) and that went over great for taking pictures, 23 bucks each at ebay new, and combined shipping if you buy more than 1. We bought black plastic tablecloths at the dollar store and gold overlays at efavormart that were so cheap. gotta have a DJ. Make sure to tell him/her to have a microphone. Shop around, you can find a cheap one, get a contract. You could buy black and foil gold different size stars to hang from the ceiling. The centerpieces on party cheap or even oriental trading are cute. Also on the table have balloon arrangements with a star balloon weight on partycheap, black, gold siliver and 1 mylar hollywood balloon. we bought black and gold napkins and plates at the dollar store.

We bought a photo op Hollywood arch called hooray for hollywood from shindigz. It really maded the party decorations.
Make sure to get a personalized hollywood banner at shindigz or wherever.

Movie party theme for hall or at home. Have a movie themed party. They sell decorations for this at oriental trading. com and you can also find some movie stuff on the hollywood sites I mentioned above. If at home watch a cool movie, have popcorn and all kids of candy and junk food. Make or buy pizza and have sundaes. Have a sleep over with the girls if you want. Have a dance in a hall with this theme. Have everhyone wear a movie star costume.

Luau, beach Hawaii: Orientaltrading has the coolest decorations and favors for this theme and the cutest tropical invitation in the bottle. Give your guests leis as they come in. Play Limbo, Hula hoop, and have a few grass skirts and everyone (including the guys) have to give hulaing a try. Again if you have room to do this at home or you can rent a small room. Tropical pinata. Twister. Hawaii site including games: www.alohafriendsluau.com. Cool invite: Flower lei and attach a printed invitation card.

Candy theme: Pink tablecloths, pink and white balloons. Make candy bouquets for the tables with short wide mouth vase from the dollar store. Fill 1/3 with peppermint disks. Buy colorful lollipops and put in the vase. Make another one t he same but use candy sticks instead like cherry, lime, etc. You can attach bows to each one with a favor card that says your initial, 13 or thanks for coming to my party and then after the party give them out as favors. Get personalized M and Ms to put in small favor bags. Get personalized hershey bar wrappers and little personalized stickers that go on the bottom of hershey's kisses or even hard candy. You can make these yourself with sticker dots easily. Buy plate size styrofoam 3 inch thick rounds and wrap in clear cellophane for a big hard candy decorations. you could put a wood dowel in one to make it a sucker. Play twister. For favors those candy necklaces, bracelets ands ring pops and candy lipsticks. They sell inflatable lollipops at Windy City Novelities. Buy a birthday plastic sucker mold We bought 3 bags of colored chocolate at the craft store and 1.50 each and ma

I have a rather large blank wall in my living room that I am needing to fill. It has no windows, no tv, only a small tree and table with lamp. I wasn't wanting a run of the mill picture or mirror that can be bought at any store, instead i was wanting something unique (other than personal photos) i need to take up quite a bit of room here...any ideas?

Answer
I'm a big fan of etsy, where you buy from independent artists.

Not knowing your colors or themes, it is hard to make a suggestion. But remember to either go very big or get a grouping of similar objects. Prints and other artwork generally look better if they are framed with a white matte, unless they are ready to hang canvases.

A few ideas:
Nice for an earth toned room: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=25474219
Nice for a room that already has some lime green: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=25895805
A grouping of prints from this artist would look nice in a traditional room: http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5799581
Good for a more rustic room: http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5564092&&ga_search_query=mirror+ribbon&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_page=&order=date_desc&includes[]=tags&includes[]=title
Great for a family with kids : http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=16039878
(the artist is on vacation until August, but you can look through her sold items. I know she will also make 11x14 versions, which would do a better job of filling up that wall)

Another thing I like is vintage travel posters. I really prefer ones from places you've already visited so they have personal meaning. All posters will also custom frame it for you.

I painted my bedroom a light pale green (cat's eye green). What colors should I use to go with it? I was thinking of dark browns, beiges, but want an accent color that pops. Any suggestions?
Love the plums/reds/oranges..but would it look good?

Answer
Hmmm - pale green, dark brown, and...
[ suggestions ]
ivory or cream
pink, light to dark
reds
peach, coral, orange, terra cotta
banana, lemon, pale gold
aqua, turquoise, teal
sky, smoke blue
purples
caramel
1] beiges, grays, are kind of 'anti-pop' colors. Better contrast with extreme neutrals [ cream/espresso, white/black ]
2] Then add a 'pop' color [ see list above ], and
3] a metal - brass, copper, chrome, iron
4] repeat the metal in accessories - lamp, ornaments, candle holder, picture frames
5] repeat the bright in accessories too - vase/planter, throw pillows, candles, desk or dresser accessories

How can I take pictures on my MacBook without it catching streaks of light?

Whenever I am sitting at my desk in my bedroom, my light always shows up as huge streaks in my webcam pictures. :( Any tips?

Answer
You obviously have a very direct light at just the wrong angle.

Turn off that big light. Take a little desk lamp, put in a daylight bulb (full spectrum bulb) and point it at your ceiling (which is hopefully white and low enough to make a good diffuser).
You will now have wonderfully even light of a perfect "temperature" as it is called, for cameras.

How to balance patterns and solids when designing a bed?

I'm redecorating my bedroom. I'm doing a nautical theme of white, navy, and red (like, bright red pops of color). I can't find a bedding collection that fits my taste, so I am putting my bed together. I have a twin bed, and I want a sheet set, duvet, light quilt/coverlet, and a standard sham to match the duvet. This is the duvet and sham I'm getting:
http://www.westelm.com/products/4044814/?catalogId=11&bnrid=3918508&cm_ven=Google_PLA&cm_cat=Bedding&cm_pla=Duvet_Covers&cm_ite=West_Elm_Stripe_Duvet%2C_Full/Queen%2C_White/Navy&srccode=cii_17588969&cpncode=32-211471889-2

And this is the quilt I'm interested in:
http://www.potterybarn.com/products/lori-paisley-voile-wholecloth-quilt-sham/?pkey=cquilts-shams&cm_src=quilts-shams||NoFacet-_-NoFacet-_--_-

However, I don't know if this is...
1. Too much navy and white and no red pop
2. Not matching shades of blue/navy
3. Too many patterns!!!

I don't know what sheets to get. Best answer is the one with an answer to the patterns question and help with getting a bit of red pop. Bonus would be if there was a suggestion as to sheets (e.g. red and white stripe, red, white with red border, navy, etc.)
Thanks in advance!!!

Now pick out red accent pieces .http://www.target.com/p/crystal-table-lamp-red-shade-includes-cfl-bulb/-/A-13361820#prodSlot=large_2_20
You can make wall decor like this. Use white, red and blue fabric in the frames.http://media-cache-ec5.pinterest.com/upload/72690981455005051_ejx4VTCm_b.jpg

How do I decorate my new room?

Okay so my older brother is going to college. He has the biggest room in the house. My parents said when he moves out I can have his room and turn my old room into a hangout place for me and my friends. I am a 16 year old girl. Any ideas for my new room or anything cool to do with my old room to make it a cool hang out for me and my friends. And please don't make it anything expensive, I have a super small budget.

Answer
for the hangout room-how about a Tv (maybe from a second hand shop of some kind), couches, bean bag chairs or floor pillows, cool lighting (fake lanterns, color changing mood lamps, christmas light strings), a game table of some kind (pool, fooseball, hockey), or a table for doing board games and puzzles. maybe a fish tank or a place to keep some other pet like a hamster.

if it isnt carpeted, a nice rug would be nice.

for either room-maybe you want to go with a theme? heres my list fo themes i want to do someday:
underwater
roman
egyptian
asian
princess
tropical
safari
ship/nautical
storm
halloween
tiki
treehouse
desert tent
gothic
jungle temple
castle
forest
beach
cave
east indian
mystic
barn
Train
aztec
1950's art deco/diner décor
Cabin
campsite
Starry night/enchanted forest
Four seasons
Bordello
Arabian/moroccan
Sci-fi
English countryside

for your bedroom-maybe a cosy chair for reading. a nice desk for doing work. maybe a bigger bed? again cool/relaxing lighting.

have fun! rememebr you can make neat decorations or get neat ones from the party store or a dollar store!

I need help evaluating this reoccurring dream I have?

boys room airplane decor

boys room airplane decor image

Victoria

Setting: (it shifts) A historical mini museum touristy thing. Then a furniture type place where you enter a room and it is set up to display a bed room. Kind of like IKEA, where you see different displays of the furniture and how you can decorate your room. Well, the second setting shift is like that, you run into a room and you see the bed the dresser, the closet, etc, all present but untouched because it is a display. The third shift is a small crawlspace(space capacity to hold a single person) with thin walls.

Here is the dream:
It starts off with me and a relative on the top floor of a mini museum building. I'm unpacking my suitcase and he walks into my room(the room is like a hotel), holding a big camera. "You should go check out the portraits. You run all the way across the parking lot and then you'll see it." Then my uncle walks out.

I'm still unpacking then my 6th sense goes off and my paranoia shoots sky high. "They're coming for me again" was what I mumbled to myself; I added 'again' because this is a reoccurring dream. So I'm waiting in my room. And THEY don't come for me. So I think I'm safe and I begin to leave my room. (I'm wearing a simple knee length sheer white dress, no shoes) I open my door to step out and I see them, walking around the corner to approach my room (my room is the end of the hall). I attempt to walk past them unseen, but that wasn't successful. The big, chubby one grabbed my waist like I was a football and began to haul me back to my room. The tall athletic one grabbed my arms so I didn't thrash around. The fat one, I could see his face, but only enough to tell the basics (i would not be able to identify him in a line up). But the other one who grabbed my arms...his face was shadowed over. I couldn't even tell what color was his hair. But he seemed familiar.

I then managed to free my arms, grabbed onto the doorway, kicked free, kicked them both in the balls and ran for my life.
I didn't know what I did wrong to get chased or murdered, but i did know that i couldnt die like that. i had to live. so I ran around the corner, jumped 2 flights of stairs and as i was running down the main hall, the scenery shifted; for an instant it was black, but the it came to a gloomy eerie light blue/dark blue/black contrast surrounding.

I ran past several room displays and came across a light blue 5 year old boy's room; red airplane hanging in a corner, clouds on the walls. the lighting was dim, barely any at all. i looked at the wall the bed was pushed against and saw walk in closet. the closet had a changing room door where it swung open, not meeting the floor nor ceiling.
I was about to enter that closet to hide till i looked down. a pair or feet with white socks poked out from underneath. So i went right through the small doorway, and ran into the extension of the room. There was nothing in this room(still a part of the boys decor scheme) except for the crawlspace door, cleverly hidden in a cloud. I crawled in, and held my breath.

i heard footsteps. then knocks on the wall from the bed side. then sterner knocks from the extended room side. I shifted my position, thinking they wouldnt hear me, then a screw rolled out from under me and made the loudest plink against the wall.

i held my breath, pulse in my head, and then the wall above my head was punched out. I saw the tall athletic one without a noticeable face digging the wall out to get to me, debris and pieces of wood landing on me. then i saw his face. he was my boyfriend (we've been dating 2,5 years, almost 3!). he didnt act like my boyfriend, if he knew it was me, why did he chase me?? anyway, i began to cry, still laying in the crawlspace, frozen. he just stared down at me, arm reaching over to grab mine and pull me out. before he grabbed mine, i calmly asked "do i first get a chance to explain myself?" he replied no. at that point, i couldnt give a care as to what happened to me. i just gave up.

his hand came down on my upper arm and yanked me out. i was dropped/tossed to the ground. and i just laid there, waiting to die, my dress soaked in tears and dust.

~this new twist on the ending of my dream~

the guy who looked like my bf comes up to me and holds out a few red bead looking type things in his hand. "do you know what these are?"he asked. i look at them, confused at his actions and realize he was showing me a lethal injection poison in crystal form.
"yes, why?"
"well, someone shot them at my friend here," he points to the big guy who grabbed me like a football, "and now his hand is all disfigured. they attached to him like darts..."
i examined his friend's hand and told him who created the crystal poison.

last thing i could remember was me being lifted onto my bf;s lap, him hugging me and saying sorry....
here is a layout of the young boy's room for an easier visual. <a href="http://tinypic.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i33.tinypic.com/2em3fv7.jpg" border="0" alt="Image and video hosting by TinyPic"></a>

Answer
I had to shorten my analysis a lot because Yahoo Answers doesn't like long replies...

I see all dreams as stories about elements of eternal life, so with that in mind...

> It starts off with me and a relative on the top floor of a
> mini museum building.

This "waking life" is like a museum. Nothing we do matters here, not a thing. It doesn't matter what you do, what you don't do, what you say, or what you don't say. Eternal life is coming, period.

Coming here to this temporary existence, for me, is a lot like feeling I'm on a sort of hellish vacation. That you have an "uncle" who walks out could be a symbol of mercy from this type of existence.

Eternal life is adventurous, and would seem dangerously adventurous to people like us mortals who can't handle too much adventure. The "they" are the sense of those beings (even in a fuzzy, ideological form) are coming to teach us how to live forever and live as they do.

> I added 'again' because this is a reoccurring dream.

Yes, probably trying to drill this eternal life message into you.

> So I'm waiting in my room. And THEY don't come for me.

That's much like what it is. They often don't come when you expect them to, nor do they really do what it seems like they were saying they were going to do when they finally arrive.

> So I think I'm safe and I begin to leave my room. (I'm
> wearing a simple knee length sheer white dress, no shoes) I
> open my door to step out and I see them, walking around the
> corner to approach my room (my room is the end of the hall).

Surprise! That's also how they operate.

> I attempt to walk past them unseen, but that wasn't
> successful. The big, chubby one grabbed my waist like I was
> a football and began to haul me back to my room. The tall
> athletic one grabbed my arms so I didn't thrash around.

They were still aware of your paranoia under the surface and were trying to drag you back to a safe place to put you at ease so that....

> But he seemed familiar.

....this familiarity could come to the surface. That seeming familiarity is actually elements of yourself that you're already aware of. Symbolically link up some of your deepest fantasies into this sense of familiarity to see what ideas come to mind. Then explore those.

> I then managed to free my arms, grabbed onto the doorway,
> kicked free, kicked them both in the balls and ran for my
> life. I didn't know what I did wrong to get chased or
> murdered, but I did know that I couldn't die like that. I
> had to live.

These "entities" seem to like to make it a challenge to both find eternal life and maintain your sanity. Just know that your brain does believe these experiences are happening, thereby causing adaptations in your genetic code as you sleep.

> I ran past several room displays and came across a light
> blue 5 year old boy's room;

Interesting, too, the boy's bedroom. Even biblically speaking, to enter the kingdom, we must become as children again. I see human evolution coming to that at some point. Instead of looking older and older, we'll simply age to a certain point, then stop aging physically, while continuing to gain wisdom. It is eternal life, after all.

> red airplane hanging in a corner, clouds on the walls.

The red airplane is of interest. Hitler is often seen as a major antichrist, and he once said he was going to fly throught the clouds in an airplane and land where everyone could see him.

> I was about to enter that closet to hide till I looked down.
> a pair or feet with white socks poked out from underneath.

Yes, your inner child is still "in the closet", but your closet does have a "changing room" with a door you can go into and out of. Another hint of the coming changes for human beings and our bodies.

> So I went right through the small doorway, and ran into the
> extension of the room. There was nothing in this room(still
> a part of the boys decor scheme) except for the crawlspace
> door, cleverly hidden in a cloud. I crawled in, and held my
> breath.

Links back to the red airplane and the clouds. Holding your breath is interesting, because you were in the changing room, and when I feel such changes happening to me, I often feel the natural reaction of holding my breath, as if that helps brace me for such changes. But really it doesn't seem to do that much good. It just changes how these physically transformative changes manifest.

> I heard footsteps. then knocks on the wall from the bed
> side. then sterner knocks from the extended room side. I
> shifted my position, thinking they wouldn't hear me, then a
> screw rolled out from under me and made the loudest plink
> against the wall.

They were having fun with you again, knocking on the walls. The screw is indicative of some kind of sexuality, though not just your plain vanilla sex. The loud plink against the wall related to the knocking on the walls, and was meant to wake you up some more. Waking up isn't an "all at once" process, but seems to happen in stages or layers.

> I held my breath, pulse in my head, and then the wall above
> my head was punched out. I saw the tall athletic one
> without a noticeable face digging the wall out to get to me,
> debris and pieces of wood landing on me. then I saw his
> face. he was my boyfriend (we've been dating 2,5 years,
> almost 3!).

The dream was trying to build up your trust in the process in this point, by introducing some familiarity back into the scene.

> he didn't act like my boyfriend, if he knew it was me, why
> did he chase me?? anyway, I began to cry, still laying in
> the crawlspace, frozen. he just stared down at me, arm
> reaching over to grab mine and pull me out. before he
> grabbed mine, I calmly asked "do I first get a chance to
> explain myself?" he replied no.

Right. As I mentioned earlier, it doesn't matter what you did, what you said, who you did what to. There is no need to explain any of it. Eternal life is coming for all of us, and it both comes through dreams, as well as hallucinations and "hearing voices" while we're awake.

> at that point, I couldn't give a care as to what happened to
> me. I just gave up.

Yes, that's about what it's like! lol

> his hand came down on my upper arm and yanked me out. I was
> dropped/tossed to the ground. and I just laid there,
> waiting to die, my dress soaked in tears and dust.

That's about what my own daily life is like now... just waiting.

~this new twist on the ending of my dream~

> the guy who looked like my bf comes up to me and holds out a
> few red bead looking type things in his hand.

Red beads, red airplanes, recurring dream, like beads, each bead being another instance of the dream.

> "do you know what these are?"he asked. I look at them,
> confused at his actions and realize he was showing me a
> lethal injection poison in crystal form.

Yes, that makes sense. It feels like death chasing us, but in fact, we're pretty much already dead. The lethal injection looks like crystals because to those who are already living in death, any approaching death would actually be life. We are being resurrected, not killed, hence the crystal symbolism.

> "yes, why?" "well, someone shot them at my friend here," he
> points to the big guy who grabbed me like a football, "and
> now his hand is all disfigured. they attached to him like
> darts..." I examined his friend's hand and told him who
> created the crystal poison.

The crystal injection is immortality. We are essentially immortal now, but disfigured because we don't really believe that we can live forever yet. But that belief will grow as more dreams and intuition give more evidence of it.

> last thing I could remember was me being lifted onto my bf;s
> lap, him hugging me and saying sorry....

Yeah, there doesn't seem to be much that these dream entities can do to drill the truth into us. We just have to figure it out as we go along, but as each day passes, the potential for "getting it" seems to grow, thereby increasing the dynamics of experiences and dreams. But for me, the actual physically-redeeming changes seem to be operating more like clockwork than through will power.

Your boyfriend's apology was that element of trust reintroduced and his apology was for not being able to present a clearer dream. Our brains have some degree of control over what we can dream about, because our brains know what our bodies are physiologically capable of handling without short-ciruiting and simply dying on us. It's a self-preservation scheme. As your boyfriend said, "sorry", but that's the way it is. Knowing that, however, should give you some more mental wiggle room, I'd think.

how to.....?

i have a 10 month old baby boy and am moving in to a new home. anyone have any suggestions how to decorate his room? i need ideas on colors to paint it and themes...maybe even something specific could have painted on walls.
thanks for the creative help!!!!

Answer
My twins are one year old and I painted their room a Dinosaur theme. Green, Blue and white stripes on bottom, about 3 ft up and around room. Chair rail with dinosaurs stencil (traced and cut out my own) just above chair rail with the word dinosaur and roar to go around the room. Love it and it is a decor that can grow with them. It is not to babyish and not scary dinosaur. I won't have to repaint it for a long time.

Another idea I wanted to do is a transportation theme room. (cars, trucks, trains, airplane....)

So my family's moving and I'll be taking the basement as my room. I had originally dreamed of turning into a vibrant, bright room with white walls and carpeting and lots of solid color accents, 'til I found out that the basement has a sort of hunter-ish forest-ish green carpet with a pattern of small sand-ish colored triangles in rows. It's a new carpet so no one wants to spend the money to tear it up and buy a new one, but it's so un-feminine and seems like it'd only accommodate neutral, warm, and muted colors, which I don't really want...
Any idea how I can work with this carpet to make the basement more vibrant and suitable for a girl's room?
Now that I look at pictures of the carpet again it's definitely somewhere between hunter and fern green...ugh.
PLEASE...The emphasis is on "feminine," here! It's already a damn basement, I don't want to feel like I'm living in a cave!

Mom

I have seen some things in IKEA but I am looking for some more, I like deep red, gold and brown.

Answer
Try Brylane Home, they have a website and some interesting Asian bedding. Also, Spiegel's catalog and website show some Asian decor. If you have a Pier One they have in store vingnettes that can give you some furniture ideas.

Looking for nice, good quality bedroom furniture for my kids. Any suggestions?

Gigi

They are 4 & 2 and share a room. I am not down with Ikea or putting things together myself. Love Pottery Barn furniture, but looking for a place with a little more of a selection to get more of an idea of what it is I want exactly. Any suggestions would be great.

I am redecorating my bedroom in a couple of weeks and need some ideas on how i can switch things up. I am a 21 year old girl who is earthy but also very girly. i like hippie but also like feminine.
my room is olive green/ spit pea soup green and is currently a jungle theme with like cheetah and zebra and monkeys and elephants. i want to keep a couple of things but i am trying to figure out what accent color i can choose. my bed frame and the other furniture is black. i was thinking like a fuishia or gold. any ideas and suggestions are welcome.

Answer
honestly to get rid of all the zoo animal prints...and supplies etc...

go for a more mature look

i have that olive green color also and trim it with a burgundy

i think on the walls keep it simple and mature with wall decore from bed bath and beyond...all wall decor is in the beyond area...

maybe some framed photos on one wall of family and another wall of special interests...

a desk area with memo board...calendar

keep it simple which keeps it uncluttered

i would so a chic earthy bedspread and a tan brownish green throw carpet from like target

relax

safari themed bedroom?

Natalia

I want to add some color and excitement to my room. i recently moved and got stuck with my parents' old furniture and bed set. don't get me wrong i like it but its a little too old for my taste and I want to liven it up a bit. i'm a 17year old girl and i was just wondering if anyone could show me links or something to a safari/leopard/cheetah/african themed bedroom online or places where i could purchase decor. I still want to keep my room looking sophisticated but just more fun. thanks for everyone who submits!

Answer
I have to say I admire you for stepping out and daring to be different. I love the Safari/British Colonial/Mediterranean look. I have used this look in my own home, as well as other properties I have worked on. The end result was great sophistication and visual appeal with pizazz.

Some of the best places I have found to begin building the look for a fraction of the cost are TJ Maxx has tons of items relating back to this theme. Great Prices too! Also, Marshalls, Home Goods stores, Odd Lots, Big Lots, Ocean State Job Lots, etc. all have furniture with animals on them, palm trees, bedding, decorative plates, vases, candle holders, animal print sheets, artwork all really good prices.

No one would ever know where the stuff came from, and would think you were very well traveled and actually visited around the globe to get all these great items. Also, consider purchasing old leather steam trunks to not only look great, but store stuff in. Stack several medium sized ones for bedside end tables. Check Ebay and your local www.craigslist.com

Consider making you own canopy out of mosquito netting, or buying one to hang above your bed. Check ebay under mosquito netting canopy. Sells for $10.99 in a multitude of colors or more ornate mosquito canopies go for $39.95 on ebay.

Lastly, I have always gotten my inspiration from Ernest Hemingway and what his home looked like during his African adventures that he wrote about. It reflected well travelled individual with global rustic elements. This look can be achieved without the cost of travelling to find your treasures.

A big fake tree strung with mini lights adds coziness and romance to any room.
But here is a favorite of mine for your walls. Go to an art supply store and buy a canvas or two in the size you need. Like these:
http://www.dickblick.com/categories/canvas/
Then cover them with a fabric that coordinates with your bedding. You can find cheap remnants at a fabric store. Or use decorative paper.
After you cover them, decorate them any way you want....photos, decals, stickers, tassels, feathers, sequins, etc.
http://www.ejoyce.com/
When you're finished, they'll look something like these only with your own personal flair (and alot cheaper!)
http://www.pbteen.com/products/p3542/index.cfm?pkey=cwall%2Daccessories%2Ddecoration
You could also just paint them a solid color and paint a simple design on them or glue a favorite picture to them.

A cool wall hanging can add lots of personality to a room. See if you like any of these:
http://www.turtleislandimports.com/index.cgi/nv=86/r=aw/Bedspreads.htm?gclid=CIv2_KKvrJkCFSPxDAodsBdTJg

Go to a thrift store and buy a simple wooden chair. Then paint it a bright color, hang a cool throw over it or an accent pillow and put it in a corner of your room with some magazines or a pile of books nearby.

If you're artisitic at all, you can use stencils to decorate it with.
http://www.walltowallstencils.com/stencils/miscborders.php
Or just make your own stencil from a piece of cardboard and add polka dots or squares to it.

Decals are a great way to easily add some pizazz to your walls.

What wall paint color goes with red and black furniture/decor?

Pairah Nor

My dresser, night stands, headboard, tv, and tv stand are black. My bedspread is red and black. My lamp shades are red, and the accent decor is all red. What in the heck color wall paint goes with that? And if you say white, you are as useless as an a**hole... right here. *points to elbow*

Answer
Any color will work. The trick with white is it dissapears and becomes a canvas for your other effects.

But you can put any other color in there. The trick with adding a 3rd color is to not leave it the last man standing and add bits of that color in the room with a throw blanket, shelves, accent pillows or a throw rug to offset the red and black in your additional color.

For adult contemporary you would add beige/gold and or silver/grey http://www.goodhousekeeping.com/cm/goodhousekeeping/images/Bedroom-Decor-Gallery-29-fb-27924815.jpg http://homedesigninterior.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/newyork-wall-sticker.jpg

For a more teen type look http://www.greatinteriordesign.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/new-ikea-2010-futuristic-bedroom-design-ideas-499x410.jpg or paint one wall black and add your 3rd color in a decal http://www.nabuzz.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/teen-room-furniture-kids-bedroom-577x322.jpg

Consider getting the metallic silver paints from Ralph Lauren to compliment your look and add some brightness. http://www.lindendynasty.com/images/screens/7ASC208_full.jpg

What are some cool and cute things to make for room decor?

I'm moving in a couple of weeks and wanted to design my room. I will buy some new things, but its always good to save money right?

I've already made a heart out of a notebook wire ring (cute)
Gotten a whole bunch of CDs to hang or put somewhere
Bunch of drawings

also ive heard of drawing or collageing a lap shade so ill probably do that.

Anything else would be great! thanks! :]

There's a lot of cool ideas on the following websites:
www.bhg.com/crafts/kids/rainy-day/teen-bedroom-crafts
www.favecrafts.com/Bedroom
www.countryliving.com/crafts/projects/make-craft-room-0306
www.goodhousekeeping.com ⺠... ⺠Home Decor Gallery
Just make sure you room flows together by trying to have a lot of the colors match or the same style type of thing i.e. birdhouses, hearts, etc.
Hope this helps :)
