How can I get a surfer style bedroom?

HollyPolly

I love brands like Fat Face, Billabong, Roxy etc. and the whole surfer look but I was wondering how to get that style in my bedroom? I've only got a tiny bedroom but I'm up for any suggestions - please add photos if you can.

Answer
I would definitely stay away from creating a too cheesy surfer room. For example, I was looking up some pictures for you and there were cheap grass skirts as the bedskirt for the bed and little tiny surfer lamps and stuffed monkeys and dolphins and stuff....cheesy. To make a gooood surfer room, I'd choose a bright color that you like for the walls or maybe two as in the picture provided below. The room below has lime green and orange but if you like other bright colors better, that'd be okay too. When you look for room examples like this, I always just use the picture as a shell and interchange my color preferences, etc. So paint the walls a bright color, I actually like the blue in the second picture provided for the walls. You'll want to keep white in your room too..the molding around the room, in the bedspread, maybe the bed frame, the dresser and anything you can really. Because you have a really bright wall, you need that white to offset it and make it more beachy and light. So chose your bedspread. There are plenty of bedspreads that are actually billabong and roxy beach spreads if you want that. You can also chose a hawaiian print theme, but I feel like that's borderline cheesy as well. If I were you, I would choose a full white bedspread in a light fabric. Choosing a completely white bedspread will also make the room and your bed feel and look bigger. It's really your preference though, as I know some people love the hawaiian print. I love the wicker in the first room provided. And I love how they painted it, but I also just love wicker plain. So if you're tight on cash or you just like the wicker not painted, just keep it like it is. Wicker just reminds me of outdoor furniture you'd have at a beach house though. I'm not sure what color your carpet is or if you have wood floors. It'd be ideal if you had wood flooring and then I'd add a straw beach mat as the rug at the foot of the bed or at the side of the bed, depending on the positioning of the bed. I'd get white lamps like the one in the first bedroom provided, the two inbetween the two beds on the nightstand. Again, I'm not sure how you are on money, but if you can afford it, I'd definitely splurge on a full sized surfboard to put somewhere in your room, behind a wicker chair or in a corner by itself. I'll provide a link to a cheaper board (in the world of surfboards it's considered very cheap.) I'd also get some beach themed decor. I like the word beach spelled out above the bed in the second picture. I also love the wood nightstand in the second bedroom, you can see the top slats of it, but I would paint it white. I was recently at Marshalls and they had extremely nice and sophisticated beach themed decor that could fill up probably two to three rooms. If you have a Marshalls by you, you should take a look there. Also, TJ Maxx. If not though, I'm sure you can find really cute beach stuff online. Even if you went to a craft store and bought a hurricane candle holder, a pillar candle, and sand and/or shells, that would be awesome to put on your nightstand. You could also buy a cheap starfish and shells online too to put around your room. The options are endless!! :) Here are all the links:

Basement Bedroom Decor.?

Kate

I have a Bedroom in the basement down at my dad's and it is kinda "Blah" and i wanna make it more relax instead of just white walls and the paint they have up now is peeling off the wall. Is there a special type of pain i need to get to cover the cement brick walls? What colors should i do, im not into light colors but i like vibrant colors. I have a cherry queen set bedroom suit down there now and i want that to go with the theme/decor of the room too. Im also into the black and white photos in the frames with the overhead light on them. I don't have a big budget to do this room on so nothing to pricey please

Thank you,
Kate

Answer
First you have use a scraper and wire brush to remove the old flaking paint, then wash the walls with a scrub brush using ammonia and a squeeze of dishsoap in a bucket of water. (tsp-tri sodium phosphate works best but ammonia/dish soap works great and saves you some money)
You have to use a primer/sealer before you paint, the best primer for brick
aaaww sorry...reading thru your questions I see you never pick an answer

ps. DO NOT use exterior paint indoors

Wall art for minimalist bedroom?

K N

I'm changing my bedroom decor to nearly all-white and minimalist. Only the floor is dark hardwood, and I have colorful bedding. The rest (furniture and walls) is all pure white. I would like to hang an art print over my headboard, but it's a relatively small print: horizontally it's about 43'' x 31''. Considering there will be a white gap between my headboard and the print, there will be about 59'' of blank wall left over the print before the ceiling.
Do you think I should hang a larger/taller piece of wall art to fill all that blank space, or is it going to look fine with the one I have?

Answer
You have too much open white space on your wall. Find something you like that is much larger to put on your wall. Something that fills the open space and will look better . Look for a larger picture to fit the wall correctly = ).

Decor for my bedroom.....?

Q. i have permission to draw/paint on my bedroom walls from my parents.
i really want to achieve that "doodle" look on it, and make it really colourfull and bright.
i was thinking of drawing the design on in penicl first? would this work or would thepencil show up even once it was painted? Also any good sites where i could get cool stencils and stuff would be great (:
(I live in the UK)
Thankyou!

Answer
Why would you draw on the wall with a pencil? The best way to do it is plan it out on a piece of paper

Help with bedroom decor?

Q. I have a small bedroom and I've been wanting to redecorate it for about a year now... I just don't know where to start since it's so small... I want it to be black, white&red and 'music' themed. I have a keyboard and a guitar that need to go in as well as my essentials, such as my bed, my dresser, my mirror and makeup table, ect. Has anyone any ideas on how I can save space in my room? (I can't buy a lot of new furniture, just shelving and small things) any ideas at all?
Thanks c:

Master bedroom decor ideas?

starrygirl

We just moved into a house, and though it was affordable and most of the rooms easy to decorate, the master bedroom has been a challenge. The walls are a medium dark wood paneling. All of the decorations I have from our old house are red, black and white...which clash badly with the brown walls. You can't paint the walls, so I'm going to have to work around them, and use brighter colors to keep the room from being so drab. The style in the rest of my house is Bohemian and Cottage. Any ideas would be great.

Answer
brown and robins egg blue as well as turquoise go well together. Since it seems like a dark room and you like the cottage look, stick with Robins Egg Blue Tan, and Cream, it will brighten it up.

How should I decorate my boys room?

Q. I have a 8, 3 and 3 month old in the same bedroom. I want to move but the 3 bedroom apt are full and we can't afford a house right now.

Answer
A decorating theme is a great way to begin decorating a room for a child. If you're like most parents, you've probably spent lots of time thinking about decorating your new child's room even before he joined your family. While bunnies are cute and teddy bears are darling, you might want something different for the bedroom or playroom.

There are lots of great themes for boys' rooms. A special theme will provide both the focus and the inspiration for a special one-of-a-kind room and can be adapted as your child grows. Time to get started!

Bug's Life
From bees and ants to frogs and reptiles, creatures of nature often capture a child's attention. Browse theme ideas at Posh Tots including a Bug Off Table and Chair Set, Bug bed linens, and or frog lamp.

Favorite Animals
What boy wouldn't love a room focusing on his favorite pet? Whether it's a dog or cat, bird or snake, using this theme will make your son (and his pet) feel particularly at home. Be sure to put up lots of pictures with your son and his best friend around the room and make sure you have stuffed animals scattered everywhere.

Playhouse / Playtown
This theme will provide a wonderful scheme for decorating your son's room and provide lots of wonderful playtime possibilities as well. A whimsical or the cute playtown chest can be your starting point. Or, do a border in kids designs or paint a mural of a street scene on one or more walls. Name the storefronts for family members ("Katie's Groceries", "Ted's Puppet Theatre", "Todd's Bike Shop", "Anne's Pet Heaven", "Sara's Video Den", or Dennis' Book Nook").

Safari
For a safari look, find wonderful, colorful animal wallpaper borders and fabrics at any wallpaper store. Paint the walls blue, tan, ivory, or any of the colors in your wallpaper border. Make pillows and valances from coordinating leopard-print fabrics, and find some stuffed lions and tigers for the corner. Mount a butterfly net, binoculars, or straw hat on the walls. Use colorful matboard and frame some of your child's artwork to display. Maybe he'll draw some lions!

Rustic Cabin
Most every child loves spending time at camp or in the mountains. And what parent doesn't have happy childhood memories of hiking, boating, fishing, or just enjoying the outdoors. Birdhouses, bears, moose, and fish might show up in wallpaper borders, in fabrics, bedding, and accessories. For a rustic room you might also choose comfy plaid patterns, flannel fabrics, and log or pine beds. Accessories might use forest themes of animals, mountain scenes, or natural materials such as pine cones, leaves, and sticks. Take another cue from camp and use a sturdy trunk to store toys. With a room this nice, who needs a vacation?

Rain Forest
Choose a colorful jungle border, or try a jungle area rug. Soft fabric snakes and colorful stuffed birds or butterfly cutouts can add to the decor. Make pillows of animal or jungle prints and use themed accessories. Grrr!

Race Cars
With car racing, you think black and white checkered flags, and a finish line. Find an area rug with a car track design. A car bed might be fun, or decorate the walls with a car wall appliques. Add some framed calendar photos or posters of race cars, and put up narrow shelving to display car collections. Zoom!

Outer Space
Take a trip to the stars using a space theme. An Apollo bed set, outerspace border, or star-studded rocking chair might be just the items that inspires your child to reach for the stars. Paint reflective planets or stars on the ceiling in arrangements of the constellations.

Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines
If Dad is in the service, you might let your boy feel patriotic with a room painted in camouflage and outfitted with tanks and desert colors.

Sports
From soccer to baseball to football, sports is a theme that spans the generations. To use a baseball theme for example, use a headboard made from bats, hang curtains from bats used as curtain rods, make a baseball lamp, or hang shelving to display gloves, pennants, and trophies. Paint the room in the colors of your son's favorite team. Sports themed rugs, furniture, and beds are another possibility. Create similar looks for other sports, and you'll have a room that is a big "hit" with sports fans. Play ball!

Wild Colors
Go wild by starting with a lively area rug designed in fun colors for a child. Take your cue from the rug for colors and designs for the rest of the room. Use color everywhere! Paint every surface of a bookcase a different color, and do the same with headboard slats, drawer fronts, and chair legs. This is a great way to help your little one learn his colors! Find a fabric to compliment the rug and use it to tie the room together with window valances or floor pillows.

Movie or Cartoon Characters
There's something for everyone in this theme! Whether your son has been captivated by Mickey Mouse, Alladin, Lion King, Toy Story, or Scooby Doo -- you'll probably be able to find bedding, lamps, and other decorative items that use these themes. Towels for the bathroom and toys will be easy to add.

Pirates
The story of Peter Pan can inspire creative parents to design a wonderful room. Boys intrigued by the notion of pirates will love a room using blue ocean themes, ship masts, portholes, netting, treasure boxes, and secret play hideaways.

Knights and Castles
Artistic parents can faux paint castle walls, murals, and blue skies for a truly memorable room. Use the theme of "A Sword in the Stone" or "Camelot" for inspiration. Find another take on this theme offered by for Mercy's Sake in their Galahad collection.

Trains, Planes, and Automobiles
There are lots of colorful choices in bedding, fabrics, and wallpaper that feature transportation themes. Make a train track border around the room, hang airplanes from the ceiling, or go wild with a car-shaped bed.

Cowboy Kids
This is a fun theme where you can let your imagination run wild. Think bandana valances, chaps wall hangings, tin stars, horses, rope borders, and more. The baby dude designs offered by for Mercy's Sake offer some fun possibilities. Or check out OliveKids.com Camp Wilderness or the Wild West theme designs from PoshTots.com for more creative examples of this theme and products to add to your decor.

Dinosaurs
From cute and stylized to realistic and ferocious -- dinosaurs themes are still popular. If you suspect this is a passing phase for your little one, then opt for solid color bedding and walls, using theme elements in borders, sheets, valances, and posters.

How to decorate a hunter green room into a kids room?

gr8mom

We just moved into a rental home. So excited but one of the bedrooms is HUNTER GREEN! That's not even the worse part. It has a deer at a pond border going all the way around the room. Its a guys type room. I don't have any boys just girls and we want to turn this into the play room. We got them a multi colored pink and purple lamp and a purple carpet to try to lighten it up. But does anyone have any other ideas. No we can not paint. Thanks for your time!

Answer
You could hang lines (either retractable clothes lines, or tension rods), to drape curtains or fabric from, around the entire room.

Where is the wallpaper border at? If it is at the top, you could hang valances around the room to cover that and leave the rest of the walls green (see below)- either white so it would blend in with the ceiling or perhaps a cloud print.

With the green walls, you could use accessories to give it a fairies in the forest theme/feeling.

Have you asked about painting? It is not very expensive, and you could present it as your doing an upgrade FOR the landlord and that make him/her more open to it.

what kind of wall decor is suitable for a 32 year old conservative, straight, single, christian man's bedroom?

Austin P

I'm getting a new place and I would like advice about what is appropriate wall decor and furniture choice and style for my new place. I'm 32 years old and I am single, conservative, straight and a christian. My goal is to express myself and still and most importantly honor God in my choices. I would like some advice, and I politely ask, please do not include any off-color or vulgarity in your response. Thank you for your genuine help in response to my question.

Answer
Since you want to express yourself think about what you like. You will probably want a neutral color for the walls as that is more relaxing for a bedroom. Do you have a favorite artist or style of painting? There are a lot of good reproductions that are inexpensive. If you have an interest in sports or a hobby you can incorporate that into your decorating.

It might be a good idea to go to a large furniture store and just look around to see what you like. Some decorators say you can look through magazines like Better Homes and Gardens and cut out pictures of rooms that appeal to you. By looking at the pictures you can then see the style that you like.

The important thing is to pick things that you really like. Take your time and enjoy the process.

redesigning my room!!!! i need ideas!!!?

Q. Okay soo I want to redo my room. But I want it to be like a teeny pictures of memories and friends and i nice comfy area for my friends to hang out. But i don't know exactly how to do that. and first i need to clean up my room some.

i have tons of little nicknak things and just things i dont want or need so what do i do with them? trash them? or like give them away? because some are like those little plastic things for kids meals and fast food places! who would want those??

so yeah. any ideas on how to redesign my room!!!?

Answer
ok.. let's start w/ cleaning up the room. Get 2 boxes or something of that nature... go thru u'r stuff. One for "NOT WANTS" & "WANTS". The box u don't want.. donate to places like Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Cancer Society, Vets, Goodwill... these places will usually come & pick them up & they have stores where they sell them & use the $ for the cause.

2nd... now whatever is left, u need a place for them... sooo shelves... cubes... if they r stuffed animals u could make a chain from the ceiling ( paint it w/ metal paint-ask the paint store) then put ties/clips/ropes/things like that on it to hang u'r animals. U can use crates painted ( Michaels/JoAnn etc..poss Big Lots, thrift stores-- they always have great stuff--like where u'r gonna donate u'r NOT WANTS.) u can always paint them & have ur friends help.

I don't know the colors of u'r room or walls but use those colors for the shelves/stands/shelves.. if u find an bed stand w/ drawers that would help. U can paint them white or JST paint the front of the drawers & put funky things glued on the handles.

Now for the pix of u'r friends... that is great that u want to do that. So do u have access to a camera? Get u'r friends together & take currant pix. Do u have some close friends or many? Then get some 2oz color paint from the craft store/Walmart... ... sory i'm jumping ahead.. i'm excited. Back to the photos... get close up of jst the head of u'r friends & U as well. NOw... go to the COPY place ( if u'r pix r digital if not get them developed)& explain u want to ENLARGE certain photos on paper that u won't smear if u glue them. They will copy them & enlarge... NOW to the paint

get the btls of paint... go home get elmers glue water down but swimming.. glue u'r faces of u'r friends on the a wall or 2..(depending on the amt of friends) then take the paint w/ brushes..have u friends help then paint their hair & poss. if u want paint their clothing.

Now for xtra photos... get some material from either the thrift stores ..like table cloth..curtains..etc... OR from the fabric store in the clearance bin. U can buy some decorative rope as well...

Project:... u'll need cardboard or foamboard, batting(fabric store), glue gun, scissors, TACKY GLUE or elmers. TAKE the batting & glue it on the board of u'r choice. Then cut the material size of u'r board PLUS 2". Then lay material face down on table. Place batted board on top of NOT design side. Take one side of material.. about the 2" or so.. use u'r glue gun( have a small bowl of ice around for burns.. trick i learned) glue a little at a time.. OOOO i forgot ..have a kitchen butter knife so u don't burn u'r fingers. NOw pull the material over & glue the one side down. Turn & do the OPPOSITE side. Then do the other sides. Take u'r decor rope.yarn etc... glue on top of one side.. make it long to hang the board & to the other top side glue. Then it again. glue NEXT to the one u have glued BUT pull it towards the front & go diagnally to the other side... glue on the back. Do the other side. NOW start about 3-5" from that last one & do the same & REPEAT til u meat the end.

NOW u have places to stick u'r photos OR if u didn't get any rope/yarn.. then use tacks.

Welllll.. I hope that helped...OH... get some funky material u like & cover OLD pillows either sewing or ironing (as at fabric place for STICH WITCHERY) & make cushions for the floor so u'r friends can enjoy sitting in ur room.

BE CREATIVE.... & have fun!

a good place to buy room decor.?

I'm in the process of redecorating my childrens rooms.
my daughter wants tinkerbell in sort of a lavender look.
my son wants horses with a southwestern / western look.
Im needing bedding. walls ect. I was hoping someone knew of a Cheap place that I could get some of this stuff at? and any ideas you would like to share for creativity on a very short budget! Id love to hear from you. thanks

Answer
Buy the tink bedding at walmart.com....I believe it is severely discounted right now. Or to really save buy lavender or purple bedding and accent with lime green throw pillows. Buy extra sheets and make the curtains to coordinate.

Then, grab a tink coloring book, a projector (sold at decorating store about $20 or borrow from library), and some acrylic paints and make a mural. Or, just paint a flying line (a dotted line in coordinating colors-if walls lavender paint deep purple.) across three of the walls and paint a basketball sized tinkerbell on one wall.

Total girls room cost $80-$100 including bedding, projector and paints.

Western, I would check out walmart.com for either a southwestern or kiddie western theme bedding. Or just a plain denim comforter. Pick up a cheap kids cowboy hat and toss on bed. Paint walls to look like old western ghost town. (just buildings with signs above doors) Maybe get a cheap lamp with base and attach cowboy boots, some plastic horses.

Total boys cost $100 includes bedding paint and simple accessories. Remember to utilize the salvation army stores or other second hand places for decorative pieces. On certain days of the week they have discounts and their prices are already real low!

:) good luck.

Should the bedroom decor match bathroom?

Jodi H

My bathroom is not in my bedroom but was wondering if it should match in any way?
Also was wondering about kitchen and living room?

Answer
I like the bedroom and bath to share one color, at least - such as;
1] lavender walls, smoke blue bedding and drapes in bedroom; and smoke blue walls in bath, with sage green accessories
2] if you can see the kitchen from the living area, also have one common color [ walls, upholstery, art, acceories ].
Otherwise, not necessary.
3] as a general rule, the smaller the home [ apartment, small house ] the more colors in common, the better.

Any ideas on how to decorate an insect themed bedroom for a young boy?

clopin0

My son is almost 6 and would really like to have an insect themed bedroom. I am stumped as to how to decorate the room. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Here's some info about the room. The room is pretty small (about 10x10) with 2 windows. The furniture that he'll have in the room are his twin bed (with drawers beneath it), a small endtable, and 2 tall bookcases to hold toys, books, and other items. The flooring in the room is a dark wood.

He's never really had a completely decorated bedroom, so I would like to make this really special for him.

Answer
An insect themed bedroom sounds really creepy to me, but if that's what he wants...

I'd go for mural paintings on all the walls. Paint is relatively cheap and easy to change if he loses his interest in creepy-crawlies. Paint some big plants all around and strategically position various insects crawling around on the leaves. Don't forget a blue sky and some puffy white clouds.

This should work well with the dark wood floor, which is nice and earthy and approaches the color of dirt.

Good gift for 1 year old baby girl?

Emo B

I'd like to buy a gift for a relative's baby girl who's turning 1 soon. They're wealthy, so they have mostly everything, which is why it's hard to shop for them. But anywho, something more then $100 but less than $200. I've thought of jewelry, but we bought her bangles already so.. Also thought of a very pretty musical waterglobe, but kinda not so appropriate for her age.. an adorable toy chest, but kinda don't want to buy her something that will be difficult to return (plus, I dont know her room decor, except that it's white). I don't really want to buy her clothes because we always do anyway, and we just recently bought her a rocking horse. Any ideas?

Answer
I think the water globe idea is very cute. It would be something you could add to each year. A nice start to a very tasteful collection you could get her a new one each year on her birthday.

Other cool collection ideas
Precious Moments
Mini Tea sets
Cherished Teddies
Madam Alexander Dolls

There are also a lot of cool wall art items you can buy with a child's name. My kids each have one in their room and they are just a nice addition to any bed room.

Ideas for a music themed room?

Gabbi

My older sister recently turned 19 and she's moving out in June, which means I'm moving into her room (because my room gets no heat), and my current rooms being turned into a guest room. Anyway, I want to make my new room a music themed room (I currently have a Paris themed room), I want the walls to be black and lime green (and yes my parents WILL let me paint a wall black, one of my walls now are black) with band names all over the wall and my name in graffiti type letters.

I was just wondering where some places are that I could get music themed things and possibly a guitar stand for my electric guitar (I've looked everywhere for one). And any ideas or suggestions for the room would help, thanks! (:

I'm a girl btw

Answer
Go online to the party stores and look up music themed birthday party there you can get some ideas. Then search for music themed decor...or make music notes out of cardboard and paint them black for your lime wall...maybe even use some of the party decorations for your room. Fabric stores have music themed fabric to make pillows and throws with...maybe a valance for plain curtins. A quilt or bed runner? Use plain bedspread and curtins then get music themed pillows/throws/valances/rugs.
Go to music stores to get ideas and also a stand of course. See what decor the store uses and copy the pieces you like...craft as much as you can yourself...music themes are easy to do. Cover boxes with sheet music and display. Craft your room...make a collage of music things you love! Add a border with old sheet music...[which by the way can be scanned and copied on the printer to use]
There are so many things you can do!

13 Y/O Girl's Room Help!!!!!?

Q. I'm 13.
My favorite colors are Purple, Turquoise, White, and Black
Fashion, Volleyball, Chic, Vintage, Music,Glitter, Glam
My room is 8x9.
I'm thinking of White Furniture ?
Twin Bed
I like desks like this: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-Student-Desk-White/11061203
Email Me at asianbear7963@gmail.com if you have any other questions.

PLEASE and THANK YOU SO SO SO much!

Answer
Since the room is on the small side, definitely go with the white furniture. You can still decorate it with Vintage lace bedspreads, curtains, pictures from fashion shows, collect various instruments & display them on shelves. The chic & glam are easy to fit in, by using decor like vases, fabric covered books, lampshades. You can try decoupage & add glitter to just about anything in your room. This is coated with a clear sealant to keep it in place. Also, try your hand at sewing- you sound very creative. You can make any type of duvet cover (like a pillowcase for your blanket/comforter). This would be the less expensive route that would open up your choices. Choose fabrics in the colors you love.

Halloween Themed Bedroom Ideas?

Tori

Okay so I am redoing my bedroom soonish and I want to do it in like a halloween-fantasy-dungeon-Dark sort of theme and I need some ideas for it. I like pretty much everything that is part of the holiday so please any help would be great.

FYI I am not painting my room black or some dark color like that cause it will be a pain in the butt later. I may though use wallpaper either in black or like a stone dungeon wall kind of thing. (though haven't decided on it yet.)

Answer
If you paint, you might want a more neutral color like light gray. That would lend itself to many possible changes in decor. Might want a dark purple comforter, sheets, & throw pillows. As cooler weather comes on, you may want flannel sheets. Knit, crochet, or flannel throws can all be used for curling up with your books.

Dried flower arrangements & baskets would add a very sophisticated & pretty look. Might see a fake bird's nest or bird house along with madrone or manzanita tree branches & fabric blackbirds. Could also frame appropriate quotations from Edgar Allen Poe, nature haiku, or an Alice in Wonderland poster. Can switch the ornaments on the tree branches to match the season of the year.

For the Halloween theme, what comes to mind is the little seated skeleton that I bought last year at Big Lots that's purple with glitter & glass eyes. He holds a little candle holder & looks very similar to a seated yoga pose. Not realizing it was a candle holder, I got it to hold the quarters that I was giving away to trick or treaters. If you get to the stores early in the season, you may find ones that are especially cool. You may see stuffed characters, such as jester, Harlequin, or velour pumpkins, such as the male & female ones that I have. Would also be a hoot if you ever got a good price on a store mannequin or a coat rack to dress & decorate for the season.

Could set up a fake crystal ball on side table or desk. Can sit on the floor, too, & practice readings with Tarot cards. You may want some cushions for this.

May also want an organza canopy on a ring or rods. Might be over the headboard of your bed or surrounding a rattan rocker or comfy velvet side chair used for reading. Look at thrift shops or 2nd hand stores to see what you can find.

May want an old-fashioned floor lamp with Victorian shade with clear glass beads hanging from the shade. You can also use LED lights, either a plain string or the skeleton ones. Note, too, that LED night lights are fairly inexpensive & use less than one watt of electricity.

Whatever you do, build in a provision for switching over to other seasons of the year. Light gray might also combine with yellow, orange, or coral & white for a sunnier look in spring & summer. Can store your velour jack-o-lanterns on a tall closet shelf using a gallon size slide lock bag or a clear plastic bag from the purchase of new pillows or store your Halloween things in a clear orange storage box.

Whatever you do, go with the electrical lighting rather than burning candles near fabric curtains. Read all the warning inserts that come with nightlights & stringed lights about keeping them away from fabric & furniture. Once you've safely mastered all of this, you still may be able to burn incense very carefully when you're nearby or you might use scented essences from a health food store in specially crafted aromatherapy containers. Can also buy dried floral mixtures to make sachets for inside dresser drawers & to give as gifts.

Bedroom decor ideas?!?

shelbie

So I want to re do my bedroom but there is a problem. I am almost 18 and I share a room with my 13 year old sister. We cant agree on anything! I want a more sophisticated room and she wants a young teen room. How can I incorporate what we both like to make a room that we would both love? She loves bright neon colors and I like calmer colors. She is a justin bieber freak and has posters of him everywhere! I dont like posters (i dont mind framed pictures i just dont like posters).
The comforter that im getting for christmas is this one: http://www.target.com/Home-8-pc-Bed-Set-Flocked/dp/B002OC742O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&searchView=list&keywords=home%208pc%20flocked%20floral%20brown%2Fblue&fromGsearch=true&sr=1-1&qid=1292473845&rh=&searchRank=target104545&id=Home%208-pc%20Bed%20Set%20Flocked&node=1038576%7C1287991011&searchSize=30&searchPage=1&searchNodeID=1038576%7C1287991011&searchBinNameList=subjectbin%2Cprice%2Ctarget_com_primary_color-bin%2Ctarget_com_size-bin%2Ctarget_com_brand-bin&frombrowse=0
And I dont know which one she should get (any ideas?)

Please give me ideas. Thank you!

Answer
Shelbie,
If you're looking at the set that is black/white, it won't fly with your sister.
If it's the blue/grey embroidered set, good choice! It's lovely!(I hope this is THE ONE you're getting

Now you have to get sneaky.

Take your sis for lunch & a manicure. Let her know that you realize that she's growing up and becoming a lovely young woman. Her body is changing, boys will soon be appearing on the front porch, and her tastes in "heroes" will change, too. (You and I know that Justin is never going to call her.) Let her know that the 7th & 8th grades at school will be a very important time of her life, and getting on the "A" list of popularity will require some sophistication in her mannerisms, her attire, her hairstyles & make-up. And of course, in her personal environment. When she brings girl friends home, the cutesy pink & lime green are going to seem very babyish to her friends.
Your shared room needs to reflect her maturity and good taste to run with the "In Crowd"
Rent the Audrey Hepburn movie "My Fair Lady,". Watch it with little sis. Then visit www.allposters.com for the poster of Ms Hepburn from that movie It's in black& white where she is wearing the stunning dress and hat at the horse races. Promise to buy it for her ONLY after she removes the posters of Justin from the walls!
Maybe matching bedding would encourage her, maybe not, or take her to Target and hekp her find a more suitable set for herself that will coordinate with yours.
(You can catch more flies with honey than you can with vinegar.

Ideas for a teenaged girls bedroom?

<3

I am 13 and cannot find any room stuff I like and I am really picky about it. All the room stuff I find it is either too babyish or too adult.

Answer
I think the best way to start is to find a comforter set that you really like and choose a paint color from it. Since I don't know your tastes or your favorite colors, I'll show you some that I like. Hope you do too!
I like this one with pink or mocha colored walls:
http://www.target.com/16-pc-Bed-Bag-Shiraz/dp/B000ROD6PA/qid=1212357527/ref=br_1_15/601-4735504-3606564?ie=UTF8&node=13160471&frombrowse=1&rh=&page=1
Paint the room blue and use this:
http://www.target.com/Thrift-Shop-Hippie-Chick-Bedding/dp/B000CD1LNU/qid=1212357607/ref=br_1_47/601-4735504-3606564?ie=UTF8&node=13160471&frombrowse=1&pricerange=&index=tgt-mf-mv&field-browse=13160471&rank=pmrank&rh=&page=1
This one is kinda cool too:
http://www.target.com/Wild-Inspirations-Bedding-Collection/dp/B000PXVM8G/qid=1212357688/ref=br_1_16/601-4735504-3606564?ie=UTF8&node=162287011&frombrowse=1&pricerange=&index=tgt-mf-mv&field-browse=162287011&rank=pmrank&rh=&page=2
I love this one but it might look too adult for you:
(with pink or brown walls)
http://www.target.com/Tropical-Bedding-Collection-Hibiscus/dp/B000UC1ADY/qid=1212357782/ref=br_1_4/601-4735504-3606564?ie=UTF8&node=162287011&frombrowse=1&pricerange=&index=tgt-mf-mv&field-browse=162287011&rank=pmrank&rh=&page=6
Another of my favorites with lavender or periwinkle paint:
http://www.target.com/Bedding-Collection-Aqua/dp/B000PH0DGE/qid=1212357836/ref=br_1_8/601-4735504-3606564?ie=UTF8&node=162287011&frombrowse=1&pricerange=&index=tgt-mf-mv&field-browse=162287011&rank=pmrank&rh=&page=6
This one is unique if you like these colors:
http://www.target.com/Purple-Floral-Bedding-Collection/dp/B00182BXGY/qid=1212357884/ref=br_1_3/601-4735504-3606564?ie=UTF8&node=162287011&frombrowse=1&pricerange=&index=tgt-mf-mv&field-browse=162287011&rank=pmrank&rh=&page=7
These two have lots of walls colors to choose from:
http://www.domestications.com/Products/Bed+in+a+Bag+reg+Sets/Jenna+Bed+in+a+Bag+/10000/10108/D13417x/R/13417B

You could also go with a black and white theme and add pops of color (lime, orange, hot pink) in pillows and accents:
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4697954
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4697952
This would look good with lavender walls:
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5038648
This would look calm and restful with light aqua walls:
http://www.kmart.com/shc/s/p_10151_10104_999000VP10960011P?vName=Bed+%26+Bath&cName=Bedding&sName=Bed-in-a-Bag
After you choose a comforter you like and paint the walls, then choose some long sheer curtains that compliment it. I like when the curtains blend into the walls instead of standing out, but that's a personal thing. Don't buy everything at once or it will look too "matchy-matchy" and predictable. Find an old thrift store chair and paint it an accent color (like a bright purple, lime or red) to sit in the corner of your room. String lights on a big tree or around the window for instant romance and be sure to have beautiful lamps on the night tables. Find a small accent rug to put near your bed and a throw blanket to add more color. Take your time and eventually you'll have the room of your dreams.

Where's a place where I can find cute teen bedroom decor for a cheap price?

Genevieve

I'm looking for basically everything: bedding, beds, desks, chairs, dressers, accessories, ect. I LOVE all the furniture from PB Teen, but it's all so expensive. I think I might try ebay or amazon or some site like that. Do you know any other good sites?

Answer
I love IKEA for kids bedrooms, but being the time of year that it is and that you are looking for a room for a teen, I would check out Target. With kids going back to school and going to college I've noticed some great deals on bedding sets, with cooresponding organization items. I have bought things on Walmart.com for my sons room as well, I just purchased a nice headboard, dresser and side table from Walmart.com and had it shipped site to store and it cost me around $259 total with tax. They had a matching desk, but I didn't get it because we have an office in our house.

Hi, I need help with my decorating my bedroom. I am 20 years old and finally updating my room and making it more "adult" no more posters. but Im not sure what to do. I have lots of wall space to hang stuff, with the walls being brown and white. Any ideas of websites to make it more adultish, let me know

Answer
I am considerably older than you; however, I would like to decorate my apartment. I would, I don't want to live in someone one else's ideas. Money is the problem, but I have had some thoughts on the subject of the bedroom to make it more feminine, more comfortable looking.

I looked at wall murals. I am in Alaska, the winters are long, and the days so dark. Then I saw ceiling murals. There was one which looked like a window, with a blue sky and a tree with blossoms. There were lights which could
go with that. People have a problem with seasonal affective disorder here due to the long hours of no light. They get special lights to try to help that. This may sound silly to you, but I thought it was so "neat". Some of my grandkids had stickers of some sort on the ceiling which were glow in the dark, soft glow, moons and stars. I am silly enough that I really liked those.

I thought of putting a soft green shag rug on the floor, like grass. Then having
Brown framed furniture or a bed with no frame, either really high, or a water bed on the floor, with a spread which looked like water lillies. Then, a wall mural of some beautiful outdoor scene. No animals, only flowers, or the woods. I know by now you think I am silly, but I grew up in the country and loved walking in the grass, smelling the leaves, flowers,
feeling the sunshine on me; sometimes I would lie on the grass, in the warmth by the streams and smell the flowers, etc. Hear the birds. I wanted the ceiling a light blue, with the moon and stars decals. I wanted some plants or something which looked like flowers, not really big or obtrusive. Recordings of music with birds, birds. Wild birds waking up or going to sleep are so peaceful sounding. I have a flute recording with birds singing in it which I listen to in the A.M. when I have my cup of coffee. I love to get up early, four thirty to six somewhere, and sit and listen to the birds and drink my cup of coffee, read my Bible a little, plan the day. I feel so much better in the summer, but I am so hot I could die, that is why the fans are so important. I thought about gardenia, or honey suckle
scented candles with the fan: very faint. (country ambience. spelling.) If I could get a recording of a whipporwill
and crickets with the birds, I probably would. I am not sure, sometimes I miss the flora and fauna. Only the flora and fauna. Not the homo sapiens. I am sure you are too sophisticated for that. A very discreet fan would be great. I must have a fan now, all the time. The net from the ceiling sounded good there, too.

I figured people would laugh at me, so moving right along, I thought of other things such as....
I thought about putting some trim around the top edge of the wall where it meets the ceiling, the wall paper strips, and around the window, something cheerful. There are only blinds. I thought of sheers with a valance draped across the top, and the rest hanging down. Flowers across the window, some good artificial or silk ones , not gaudy but soft and all across the top of the window and doors? I thought about
the drapery or whatever it is called which hangs from the ceiling and goes around the bed, with a pretty soft bedspread and many, many colorful pillows and a body pillow so I can read in bed, which I do. Then soft music from a discreet source with night music. .

Area rugs? Pretty lamps? Painting the bedroom with one wall a solid color and the other a very light. The bedroom was the main thing because
I have problems falling asleep in the winter. Once I fall asleep, I am usually ok. I need to keep the "colors " soft, and the atmosphere peaceful so I can fall asleep.

But since I cant do anything with the apartment because it is subsidized, and since I am poverty level, there is very little I can do. It was fun thinking about it though. If you can use
any of these ideas, great. That would be wonderful. I would love to hear what you do.

Answer
You need to browse your local Micheals, Hobby Lobby, and craft stores. It's so important that your kids feel that their bedroom is a part of them. A great way to do this is to get non-toxic paint and let them finger paint one wall top to bottom. Paint the remaining 3 a nice yellow or light blue or other complementing color. Then, put down a solid bright colored rug and some sheer curtains. Give them both the same comforter set.. a yellow, red, or blue but let them pick out accent pillows, picture frames, etc. in whatever prints/characters they want! As they grow you can swap out these accent peices and still have a bright kid-friendly room. The theme of this room would be something similar to a crayola crayon box and you should stick with primary colors green blue yellow and red so it doesnt get too messy. Paint ($40) Rug ($40) Curtains ($30 depending on windows or you could make them!) Accessories ($100) 2 Comforter sets ($100)... Total=$310 but you can cut down on that significantly if you find great deals or hand me downs!

Where can I find Toy Story decor for my little girl, preferably Jessie?

Kaye

My 2 year-old daughter loves all the Toy Story movies; we watch all 3 literally everyday. She has the "real" Jessie and Buzz toys and makes them kiss all the time. I really want to do her room in Toy Story but everything is clearly for little boys. Has anyone seen any Toy Story girl bedding, curtains, or anything at all? I already have the wall stickers, but that seems to be the only thing available in the USA. Fabric would be great too because I sew and would be able to just make her a sheet set and quilt if I could find Jessie fabric.
