Need ideas of kid items to sell at a craft show?

smaceroni

I am having a booth at our local craft show. me and a friend are selling bows, bow holders, burp cloths, headbands, and pacifier holder. I need a few more ideas for boys or something that can be unisex. Does anyone know of anything I might can buy in bulk and resale or something that I might can make that isn't too pricey and complicated?

Answer
You should make something like this - Dapper Snapper - basically you put it through the belt loops to tighten the waist on pants for your children that are too big:

http://www.amazon.com/Dapper-Snapper-Baby-Toddler-Adjustable/dp/B003IXVOF6/ref=pd_sbs_a_3

I made a few in fun patterns for our twins - similar to how you would make a pacifier clip.

Other things that we have seen at craft shows are signs that you can hang in a child's bedroom with their name on it, personalized Christmas ornaments, bibs etc . . .

Suggestions for decorating unisex room?

hotmomma

Hi. Me and my husband just bought a vacation home in SW Florida (Ft. Meyers area). Anyway, we also have 2 kids - 7 year old girl and 3 year old boy. The house is only 2 bedrooms, so the kids will be sharing a room when we go.

Need help with some decorating ideas. Do you like the idea of blue/white flowery comforter set for daughter and blue/white stripes for son? Or maybe just bright colors - like bright pink and green? Not sure what direction to go. Any help?

BTW, the furniture is like a white distressed wood. Thank you!!

Answer
1] find 'girl' and 'boy' comforters in same colors, different designs, as you said.
2] paint the walls the light blue [ sky ]
3] get a washable rug, in a deeper shade of blue.
4] plain white blinds or curtains
5] themes to consider:
beach [ obviously ] with driftwwod lamp, adirondack chair miniatures, etc. ]
sea creatures - 'her' side could have mermaid pix; 'his' side could have Nemo
6] don't forget some storage for toys, etc.

Family daycare providers: How do you have your homes set up?

Muse

I am wondering how other child care providers set up their homes to be efficient for both their own families and their daycare kids. Where do the kids sleep? Do you have a separate room specific for playtime?

I am considering starting a small daycare from our home. I know the regulations and know what to do as far as the business goes and how to structure a day, etc. I'm just not sure how to set up our home. For the 'daycare' space, we basically have a living room, the kitchen and our two children's bedrooms (a boy and a girl). How should I work with this space?

Anything else you can add would help. :)

Answer
My mother ran a home daycare when I was growing up and this is how she had it set up. We had a home with a basement, which was off-limits. Only the main floor was open to the daycare. There were 2 bedrooms on the floor which were off limits (these belonged to me and my sister). We kept the doors closed and usually had a gate up blocking the hallway. There was a gate blocking the staircase so no children could go down into the basement. Our living space was pretty large, and was divided into 2 rooms by a built-in, center fireplace. It was essentially an open floor plan with no closed doors (only arches) except for on the bathroom and bedrooms.

the front entryway had cubbies for each child to place personal belongings like shoes, coats, etc. My mother provided all meals so the kids didn't bring lunch unless the parents wanted them to have specific foods. We had a small table and child sized chairs in the center of the room and shelves with toys around the edges. She had a calendar on the wall and this is where she did circle time activities. The other side of the living room (on the other side of the fireplace) had the couch and chairs and was our main living space. This room didn;t have anything specific to childcare, but the kids were free to play in this room and they always carried toys from one area to the next.

We had a large backyard that my mom had landscaped so that there was a play area with pea gravel (technically should have been bark or something softer, but licensing let this one slide.) We had a slide/climbing unit here. The rest was grass. She was able to have a garden as well, but had a fence put in so the children were not pulling out her flowers each day. Be sure to have locks on any fences you have so kids can't escape from the back yard!

Hope this gave you some ideas!

What is the Sims 3 generations like?

jenny

I was considering buying this game but I was curious about whether it was any good. Does it have the same things as the original Sims 3 or what? Also, is it better than the Sims 3 Ambitions because I have that game and I like it a lot. Basically I don't want to spend money on a game that's not that great.

Answer
Personally, Generations is my favorite expansion for Sims 3. If you want to know what there is here's a few things off of the top of my head:
-Playground sets (slip n slide, tree houses, etc)
-Kid's bedroom furniture (bunk beds, castle themed set, etc)
-Imaginary Friends (if your sim discovers the potion to make them real, they could be your sims
wife/husband)
-Prom, Learning to Drive, Teen Parties, after school clubs etc.

Those are the only things I could think of right now. It's really fun and the new features are pretty nice.

Answer
It looks like your going for a bit of a nature theme! I love that idea. In fact i've done something very similar in my room. The idea of bringing the outdoors in is really pretty. I have some leaves on my walls and lots of plants. One thing that I really enjoy about my room is the ceiling. I decided putting in some string lights would look cool. Here are some ideas and products I've already placed in my room

as one final comment. I used to have green walls and my favorite color was pink. PINK AND GREEN DO NOT MIX. please please do not get a hot pink lamp shade. It will make your room look like a flower!

these are the lights hanging from my ceiling

I really hope this helped. Good Luck and I hope your room looks awesome :D

Answer
I promise you, you will be VERY pleased if you leave the wall colors neutral and have more fun with the accessories.
A rule of thumb for me: I match the flooring and the wall color. Then I change the curtains, pillows, and decor for the season. Example: I have a pale gold carpet that is in beautiful condition in the media room. I hated the color. Rather than hide the color, I made the whole room the same pale gold. Then I did one wall in entirely black paint, put up a large theater screen (white with black vinyl frame), black faux leather curtains, a black leather sofa and neutral recliners. I made the trim around the room a dark oak and I get more compliments on that room than any other!

Bedroom? I matched the beige carpet with beige walls. Exact same color. In the spring, I use pale greens and yellows for my bedding and pictures. Around fall, I move to oranges and browns. I love Christmas when I decorate my bed with deep reds and greens. I even swap out a slate blue and navy set at times. Four big Tupperware containers are in my closet with pictures, candles, pottery and bedding for new bedrooms every few months. Takes about 2 hours to do the swap!

Finally, IKEA is a good source of information for storage and organization solutions and they have some really neat lighting options and accessory pieces. If you go to the main web-site, there is a segment where you can request an actual catalog be mailed to your home. This is the time of year to do it as their new catalog comes out in June. I find it to be a great source of information/ideas, even if I am not able to purchase from them.

Good luck, happy planning & I hope this helps. Have fun with it.

What are some fun things to do over the holiday?

Q. Me and my mom want to do something fun over Christmas break, and we need more suggestions. We live in Toronto,Ontario and no snow there so we can't go tobogganing or build a snowman etc. We have done lots of shopping, and we only have 2 fun suggestions of stuff to do. Any other fun things to do?

Answer
There are actually some fun things to do during your good time!

1. Go out of town - Although holidays may be lazily spent at home, why would you let yourself get stuck at home for days doing nothing? That will eventually become boring so if you want, it would be best if you just pack your bags, score some tickets, and plan your trip elsewhere. Take the kids somewhere nice like a family resort or go on a romantic trip with your loved one and spend your days away from worries and stress.

2. Redecorate - Have you been looking at repainting the walls? Are the kids telling you they want a new theme for their bedroom? In case you decide to stay at home during the holidays, make it fun and interesting by doing your home or even just a part of it a makeover with everyone else! It'll be exciting to plan decors and even buy them together as you create the new version of the home or its room that you want to reanimate.

3. Go to a spa - Since it's time to take away your stress and totally relax during the holidays, you might as well take this time to hit the spa. This can also be a romantic event that you and your loved ones or special someone can share.

4. Fix the house - You might not notice it at first but trying to be your home's very own handyman can be a fun and interesting to do. This is of course extra special if done with the family. There are lots of DIY articles that you can read up online if there are specific things that you needed to repairs on. Plus, online shops are peppered with hardware tools that you would find useful.

5. Go on a road trip - Whoever said that traveling should be expensive? Go on a camping trip or simply go out on a roadtrip across the state! The biggest investment that you would only have here is for gas and some supplies that you would need to bring with you during the trip.

6. Go to the beach - The holidays is also the perfect time to get a new tan or just enjoy the beach without any hassles. Pack your bags, fill it with beach clothes and make sure you don't forget your sunblock.

7. Cook and bake at home - The holiday season may also be the perfect time for you to unleash your inner chef. Plan some recipes that you have always wanted to try and cap it off by daring yourself to bake even just a simple yet yummy chocolate cake.

These are just some of the fun things you can do during the holidays. Just remember that in the midst of all these things, what's most important is that you get to do it with the people who are dearest to you.

Baby Boy Nursery Ideas?

Amanda

I cant find anything anywhere but what i do find is dull.

Answer
hi congratulations for baby boy ....

There are many great options available when it comes to decorating a baby boyâs room. Whether you choose to use a theme or to just keep it neutral, you can create a great room for your new baby boy.

If itâs a theme you are interested in, here are some popular ones for a baby boy nursery:

Western - lassos, cactus, horses, and cowboys help make a great room for your little buckaroo-to-be. It is also a theme that will carry well into a toddler and young boyâs room, saving you the time and expensive of having to redo the room in a couple of years.

Noahâs Ark - is a cute and popular nursery theme for a baby boyâs room. Animals in pairs and arks can be used to accessorize the room.

Sports - sports themes are another popular idea for a baby boyâs nursery décor. You could choose a specific sport such as baseball or football to base the room around or create a room using several sports as the theme. This is another room theme that would easily carry through to the toddler and early childhood years.

Things That Go - planes, trains, and automobiles are all wonderful items for decorating a baby boy room. Use them together as a combined theme or choose just one to focus the roomâs motif around.

If a theme isnât for you, choosing a color scheme to build the roomâs décor around is a good way to go about planning the room. Donât feel limited to the traditional shades of blue for a baby boyâs room. Consider choosing a nursery bedding set you like and then using the bedding to choose paint colors and décor. Shelves with knick knacks and mementos, growth charts, and art work can be found to compliment the paint and bedding. Large letters spelling out the babyâs name can be hung on the wall and a baby shadowbox could be created using such keepsakes as a birth announcement, footprint, hospital bracelet, a pair of baby socks, etc.

Take into consideration how long you want to use the décor in the room when planning it. If you want the baby nursery décor you choose to care over into a little boyâs room, then avoid using themes that wonât grow well with the child. Also remember to design a room that you will enjoy being in. Although your baby will be too young to appreciate your hard work, you will be spending a lot of time in the room also so create an atmosphere you will enjoy as well!

what are some wall decor ideas for a boys sport themed bedroom? no posters or wall vinyls?

Answer
My son has a sports themed bedroom. Go to hobby lobby. Ton of cute stuff there. I also bought off eBay a sports trim that I put around his wall. I painted the nobs on his dresser blue, red and green. I found a soccer lamp at the dollar store for $6, and a sports rug at lowes that is pretty big. I also found a football shaped rug in an ABC catalog. You said no posters, but after I finished his room, I thought it needed a little something more, so I found 2 sports posters at walmart and they really pulled the room together. At hobby lobby I bought a sign that says, " boys only, no pink no girls and no drama" and it has footballs in the background. At hobby lobby I also bought football shelves and put a baseball and glove on it which is cute. Then I had a friend that made me a few canvases that I hung on the wall saying different sports quotes. He also has pillows in the shape of basketball and baseball on his bed, and has a hamper I filled with plush footballs, soccer balls and baseballs. I also found a baseball night light at the dollar tree, and baseball and football wall stickers I stuck on his closet :)

NEED ADVICE! Is it ok for my wife of 1 year not to contribute to raise our child financially?

Q. I've been married about 1 year to my wife after living together for 5. We recently had a baby boy together 3 months ago. We get along great.
She has 3 daughters from a previous marriage ages 18, 21 and 24. Her children, who do not live with us, currently rent their own house together for $1,500 monthly.
The problem is my wife practically gives her entire paycheck to help out her daughters pay their rent and utilities. Her kids are not lazy or freeloaders but genuinely need help financially while they all attend college fulltime and work partime.
They choose not to live with us due to a combination of reasons. #1. I bought my house before I married their mother therefor they sort of feel its not their house. #2. Being raised by a single mother, they were given alot of freedom to make their own decisions in life be it good or bad therefor creating their own rules and relaxed lifestyles. #3. I have strict beliefs in rules in my home regarding scheduling chores, curfues, no male friends in bedrooms or sleepovers and so on.
They are growing into fine young adult women with good heads on their shoulders who are struggling to succeed in life but are too busy and set in there ways to adjust to living under someone elses household rules which i understand.
My wifes paycheck is gone after assisting her daughters and comments that she "did the hardest part already" which was to give birth to my first child that I wanted therefor I should be finacially responsible for everything regarding that child and all the main household expenses . She dosent want her older kids to feel as though she has abandoned them to start a new life with me (maybe out of guilt for divorcing there biological father who is completely out of there lives). Should i insist that she become more financially involved with our new baby or just let things continue the way they are while i struggle to pay all the expenses and hope her daughters become financially independent.

Answer
Just how bad do you really want to upset the family status quo here? It sounds like shes pretty set with helping her daughters now, but the good thing college is only temporary and they should be moving on soon, hopefully. The only thing I see you accomplishing here now is to start WWIII over something which most of us would side with you. It probably wont do much good to confront her so begin to pray those college years pass real quick. Good luck

where is the best place to buy a bed?

maddenplay

Answer
what are you looking for in a bed -- quality, construction, wood, or metal? where is this bed going -- master bedroom, teen, child, guest, etc? what style are you looking for -- traditional, modern, contemporary, french, country, asian, etc? and what is your price range -- low, medium, high, money is no object?

to start off.. you can go to the lower end places (under $1,000 -- or even under $500!), beds you buy, take home in your car and put together yourself, usually made of MDF wood composite, or regular metal frames: Ikea, Target, Sears, etc. If shopping for a child, teen or fresh in college's bed.. Ikea is probably your best bet. you build it yourself, and styles are contemporary, and cheap enough that you can throw it out (or donate) when they outgrow the style.

Middle end ranges (under $4,000) start to get a little more open in designs, and the quality is upped a lot. Woods are solid or hardwood, iron cast beds, delivery required and in most cases will set up/build for you: Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, West Elm, Crate & Barrel, Z Gallerie, Brocade Home, Shabby Chic, Design Within Reach, etc.. For this range, it's more for the newlyweds, first home buyers, and college grads that are ready to "grow up".. The styles range so widely, so it's hard to say which one is the best.

Higher ends are more specifically designed, similar benefits from middle range, but better woods, finishes, construction and warranty: Ralph Lauren Home, Diva, Armani Home, Williams Sonoma Home, Between The Sheets, Environment Furniture, etc. These are for the well off and typically for the master suites when the kids have all grown up and left the nest and it's your turn to get yourself the best (retail) life has to offer. Custom made beds & headboards hand carved or made to order.. truly a luxury.. My personal favorite is RL Home for the classic styles, and Armani Home for the contemporary.

Silly question about nursery decor...?

Q. We recently bought a house and the soon to be baby bedroom has a mural on the wall that was there upon purchase. (wish I could post a pic!) Its done well with a whole bunch of original disney characters.. the mural was painted in 1995 and does look dated. My husband loves it, and I REALLY want to get rid of it and start fresh. It is our first baby... and honestly I do not like the idea of a character mural inside a home. (looks like chuckycheese.) anyway.. how can I win this one?
and is there any way to post pic to this question?

Answer
A smart husband would cave on this one. Actually, a smart husband wouldn't even voice his opinion because it is usually not needed or wanted. I'm more concerned about him than I am the dumb mural, because that should be a no brainer. What mom wants is what should happen. There are a lot of more important things in your future for him to voice his opinion on and this one is just kind of trivial. It shouldn't even be up for discussion because he should realize that in most households, this is the type of thing that is best left up to the smartest member of the family (that would be you). I've got a degree in Art and I wouldn't even think of having this kind of disagreement with my wife because it's not worth it, I'd probably lose the argument anyway, and there are more important things on the horizon.

Something else to consider, do you want to plant Disney characters planted so firmly in the child's developing mind and consciousness? Kids absorb that kind of stuff and you have to be careful what you expose them to at what age. Anything with a Disney character is expensive and you want to minimize the child's exposure to them, especially at an early age. Consider Idea Paint, which turns any surface into a dry erase board and comes in many colors.

Can you cover the thing until the kid is old enough to decide for themselves? A quilt, white board, or bulletin boards are options, so you can let them figure out what they want. Even if the thing is beautifully rendered they may decide they hate it, or simply outgrow it. But it should be up to you and the child, not daddy. By the way, no one else should get a vote, especially not a grandma. It shouldn't even be a topic of conversation because it can just add to the confusion and discord. Granddads are probably smart enough to steer clear of these types of situations, but one or both of your moms might think they need to get involved, and unless they are paying the bills or are Martha Stewart, they need to stay out of it.

Good luck, you'll soon have another person at your house that needs training, though I assume your husband knows how to bathe and dress himself.

Your review on Carlsbad Seapointe Resort in California?

Jennifer S

For those who have been there, whats good and whats bad? how are the rooms?

Answer
This is a wonderful vacation spot!!
Perfect location, helpful staff, across the street from the beach, beach goodies and a wagon available from the activity center, activities for adults and children!!
We had a one bedroom with a full kitchen and a fabulous view.
The location is also marvelous--walking distance to get to the Coaster to get to San Diego, minutes away to get to all kinds of shopping (Costco, outlet mall, restaurants, grocery store, pharmacy, etc...), and freeway close to many attractions--perfect!
The lobby area is also very welcoming with coffee, tea, and fruit for the guests.

BEAUTIFUL VIEW right off Carlsbad Blvd!

I celebrated an early Father's Day / Birthday here last weekend and fell in love with Carlsbad. We had a 1 bedroom, 1 bath condo. it comes with a full kitchen (fridge, stove, dish washer, cookware, silverware and glassware), and a patio facing the ocean. The VIEW from our room was AMAZING! the ocean was mysterious and deep blue, the sun was shiny and warm, the sea breeze was warm and welcoming - everything was so perfect!

The decor of the condo is a little out of date (e.g. pastel wall border stickers & mint color carpet). The bath tub is a little small. Wish there is more than 1 pool table because it is always taken. But these are minor problems and can be fixed easily.

The rate for a 1br / 1ba condo ranges from $239 ~ $359 per night.

I will definitely come back again for special occasions.
I stayed here for a nice get away while staying local. I had a two bedroom with a full kitchen and a little patio that faced the ocean. This is a real nice place. It has a club house, a gym, two pools (one for adults only) and a fun play area for kids that includes a pirate ship and a little water theme area.

It's located right across the 101 from the ocean, so beautiful views! There is no restaurant but since you have a kitchen you can drive across the I-5 to the Costco or down the road to the Ralph's. They also have a basket ball court, tennis courts, pool and ping pong table on the bottom floor.

The only reason this place didn't get a 5 star rating is because my unit was on the back end of the resort which is facing the Coaster train track (a little noisy) and we were situated right next to the club house which is used for weddings on the weekend. And yes, you guessed right, there was a wedding on the Sunday we checked in. It was a little loud.

I also hear that if you are a owner at this timeshare, you can rent the clubhouse for around $100 or $200! That is a steal! The Clubhouse faces the Ocean and the pool area. Nice location for a casual wedding.

So check on their nightly rates if you are coming to the area because this is a pretty good location. I called the front desk to get an idea of rates and I was told the nightly rate can range from $239 a night during spring and upwards of $300 during peak season. But considering this is for a 2bd/2bath, full kitchen, ocean view, that is pretty good. Across from the ocean, minutes from the freeway, one exit from the Carlsbad Outlet Mall and down the 101 from the quaint little town of Carlsbad.
I stayed here in July of 2009 with my two little girls, ages 3 and 6. We had a one bedroom condo, so they slept on the sleeper sofa and I got my own bed. While not luxurious, the accommodations were nice. Perfect for the beach. We had a great view of the ocean from our balcony and a fireplace in the living room. Every morning we would go down to the activity center and pick up a radio flyer wagon, fill it with towels, buckets, and shovels and head off to the beach. My six year old would pull my 3 year old in the wagon across the highway, which sounds scary, but there is a light so it's quite safe. The hotel had events like making snores and a poolside BBQ with live music, at little or no cost. They also offered inexpensive crafts for the kids ($1-$3), and my kids had a great time doing those. I would have come here again this year, but was unable to trade my timeshare, and this year we're at the Grand Pacific Palisades Resort, which is okay, but I prefer the Seapointe.

themed kids rooms?

jes

my son is afraid to sleep in his room
his doctor suggested that we redecorate it
paint it and all that
im looking for different "themes"
or just painting ideas
id like to see some pictures of things that wouldnt be too hard or expensive....not a lot of money or a lot of talent
so if you know any good sites for ideas and pictures thatd be great thanks

Answer
I was on a budget when I did my son's room too! I went to walmart to buy primer and paint. Their paint is cheaper, but I've never had it crack or chip, and it's been up for years. After I painted, I went to Dollar Tree. In their handy-man section as I call it, they have all sorts of room decor stickers. They stay up no matter the temperature, and if he rips one off the wall, it won't ruin the paint and will go right back onto the wall. They're great! At my local Dollar Tree they have Winnie the Pooh, Barbie, Cinderella and other Disney princesses, Spiderman, Finding Nemo, etc. If they don't have something you'd like, then go to a different Dollar Tree. Walmart also has these stickers, they just aren't a dollar.

Whats your kids bedroom theme?

Q.

Answer
If I had to name it, I guess I'd say "dots."

We hope to sell soon so I didn't want my daugter's room to be bubble-gum pink and a difficult sell. It's sage green with pink and brown peel-and-stick dots everywhere.

Need ideas! Cute bedroom themes for toddler?

Q. For my son's 1st birthday in September, my husband and I want to redo his room... We want to do a theme that is appropriate for a toddler, vs the baby nursery look we have right now.

What are some cute themes to do for a toddler boy's room?
We did his nursery in Jungle theme, so that's out for sure.

We did our son's room for his 1st b-day too! He doesn't sleep in it so it's really more of a play room but we have it themed up cute anyway.

We did a nature/camping theme for his. His name is Sequoia so I have Giant Sequoia trees on the wall and I bought decals of bears and paw prints and some other nature things to hang. I have the paw prints positioned like they're walking across his wall and they lead to a bear every 5 prints or so.

And his sheets have animals and tents and is a camping theme. And I have a play structure and a play tepee set up with all his toys and stuff in it. He LOVES it. I did his bathroom for his b-day also (a jungle theme) and for the whole first week he would grab my hand and lead me to his bathroom and room and point at everything on the wall and babble away and ask "that?".

The camping theme is still cute and toddlerish because we did it with a nature theme and animals as well. And he can grow in to it, it is not so babyish where he would be embarrassed by it when he's older and his friends come over.

It works for us because we're an outdoorsy family and camp a lot and plus his name is Sequoia so the Sequoia forest on his wall works out well. He loves animals nature and being outside, he's 14 months now, so it works well for him.

I don't like character rooms because they may like Barney or Elmo now but will they in 4 years? So I would stick with something they can grow in to. Like a forest theme, or a ocean theme or planet theme...

Good luck!
