Kid brother and sister room decorating ideas?

cacjohnsto

My son will be one this November and my daughter will be two this September. My son's crib is still in our room. in the next few months we plan on having them share rooms. I need some decorating ideas for their room. Should I do half the room in a girly theme and the other half in a boyish theme... Or should I make the whole room a neutral theme? Depending on your answer what kind of them should I have for the room? I need some good ideas!

By the way we will be living in a two bedroom apartment so the room isn't that big and I don't have a huge budget for the room. I need some cheap practicle ideas! Thanks

Answer
You could try a theme that can go girly and boyish. It sounds terrible to gender cast at this early age, but in my experience, its just true, girls will be girls and boys will be boys so its smart to plan that.
If you want a theme, I recomend a castle theme, you can have the whole room in a castle theme (stone, shields, knights, etc.) and the girly stuff the pink and purple princess stuff which allows unicorns etc. Or an easier and probably cheaper route is to choose an (admittedly commercial choice) such as "Disney" and he can have mickey sheets, she has minney. Or sesame street which is less obviously gender specific.
I personally resolved for the time being this question by doing a sort of non-childrens decor. I did off-white walls with one beige wall, all the furniture matching cream wood, throw rug is an "adult" throw rug in browns with red orange, purple, green alphabet letters (kiddy but yet adult) and friendly monster stuffed animals in all colors as the only toys and then all their books as the only toys as the bedroom is just for sleeping or if at bedtime they aren't sleepy they can read the books. But I fear when they get older the kiddy stuff is going to creep in as they have desires of their own. I think in the end, following the practical issues of the below answer are probably more important than the decor. I also agree if the room is small don't split it, find a theme that has a girly and boyish side.

Ideas to put on my wall. (painting a mural)?

Room ideas?!???????????????????!?

Somebody C

im 13 almost 14 and im designing my room. I have no price limit. I had an idea and i tought of another one. Im moving to the 3rd floor in my house and its a huge room! I was thinking I would get a four post bed that I hang curtains on (saw it in teen vogue). Silver curtains like this cool material ik what it is. The bed frame would be wood and painted black. Then I'd get all black furniture and tiffany blue walls. IThen I had another idea of getting my walss tiffanny blue and then getting all white furniture! im getting a 42 inch plasma screen tv also. Which one is better. black silver and tiffanny blue of all what and tiffany blue walls? if you have anymore ideas please tell me!

Answer
The white and tiffany blue is more classic, whereas the silver will seem gimmicky after awhile. I like the black painted 4 poster bed, however, but with white curtains.

If you get all white upholstered furniture, make sure it has removable slipcovers for easy cleaning, because it will show dirt (and have it scotchguarded, too.)

This room would be beautiful (and very grown up and traditional) with some dark wood antiques, and gold framed paintings. You could make it more youthful and modern with framed art and music posters. Something 60s psychelic would be cool - ie, Beatle Yellow Submarine, perhaps.

Also brass, and Asian accents. And a few big plants.

I hope you realize what a lucky kid you are.

single mom here, looking for christmas idea's for my kids i just lost my job due to my ashma? ideas 2 help?

Q. just looking for some small ideas that wont cost much , but to give them some kind of a nice christmas? even home ade stuff maybe?i am starting out with nothing so some thing had to be better then nothing? i am open to segestions. please help .

Answer
Hopefully your kids are relatively young...if not, these ideas probably won't work.

Idea 1: You can plan a "christmas vacation" filled with camping out in the living room, watching (reading) christmas books/movies borrowed from a local library, making microwave smores, going to see christmas lights around town, going to a special christmas event at a local art center or museum (free of course!)

Idea 2: Have you thought of making "coupon books" for them?you can have coupons for things like: "You kept your room tidy for a week! Worth a trip to the zoo" or something similar.... rewards that require little or no cost is great, too. "have mom make your bed one day" little things like this can be very exciting for young kids, especially ones who have a chore they don't like doing.

Idea 3: Prehaps find a place willing to give you a very inexpensive or free christmas tree....have the kids make homemade decorations for the tree. you can make some really neat things with basic art supplies like popcorn, paper, felt, glue, foam sheets, popsicle sticks, etc.... (let the kids get creative with odds and ends around the house?)

Shabby Chic Bedroom Help?

Glitter

Okay so I have like THE DARKEST house ever, my moms like, a vampire lol all of our furniture and decor is very dark and vintage and don't get me wrong, my moms a fantastic decorator and our house is beautiful but i'm SO tired of dark this, dark that. So I wanna redo my bedroom in sorta "shabby chic" theme because its really bright and cheery, so I was wondering what are some ideas i can use to create the shabby chic room on a budget (i'll be paying for most of it myself, but i do save up a lot) with a sorta small bedroom with dark blue carpet (I know most shabby chic rooms have light carpet or wood) and what are some colors i can paint it?
also, where are some good places to get little knick knacks?

Answer

Teen bedroom ideas plz?!!?

Paulina Ra

I want to do somethig fun with my bedroom. I always have the shudders open. Also my small bathroom. What colors should the walls be..? What should i puto n my walls? What about my bed? It has a headboard with an open shelf. Also my closet..? And i have a chair not a recliner but a furniture chair. I need awesome decor ideas!(: for bedroom and bathroom.

Answer
Purple would look nice, but not a dark purple, more like a lilac or lavender. Put up posters, drawings, anything! Maybe above your bed you could have a small shelf with letters that say love or peace or your name. Next to your bed you could put a little rug out for when you get up in the morning, if you have hard wood floors it would work out better. For the bathroom put out a fuzzy rug in front of the sink and get those decorative covers for the toilet seat. and some nice curtains. If you have a shower put the rug there instead. Also, above the sink for the mirror you could have lights surrounding it, like a makeup mirror. Finally with your closet you can hook up some lights in it so when you open it they automatically turn on or get a switch. If you want you can put some paper lanterns on the ceiling or a mini chandelier.

P.S maybe a pod chair or a beanbag chair? (:
