Layout help for a fresh new room design?

Sam B

My brother is going to uni soon and I'm getting his room. This means a new blank canvas to design my room however I want. The room size is 3.17m by 3.75m, and one of the shorter sides has a window taking up 2.3m. I am a 15 year old guy and I want a minimalistic look and feel, a nice spacious comfy room where I can chill out and have space to think. I like gaming with my friends, computing, photography and film-making.

I would like to include in my layout: my camera equipment and an iMac, a guitar(I have a wall mount) and amp, my xbox 360 and a TV(possibly wall mounted?) I also need somewhere unnoticed to store my clothes and possessions.

Any ideas for my room layout and design I would really appreciate, pictures would also help me greatly! Thank you, Sam
I would like my room to be comfy and modern style, I also need suggestions on what colour/s for my room. I am looking into any other comfy additions.

Answer
To keep your clothes, etc. out of sight you can use inexpensive closet organizers as described here (with photos) http://jansseninteriors.blogspot.com/2011/08/storage-organizing-closets-small-spaces.html

Minimalistic boy's room with photos see here http://jansseninteriors.blogspot.com/2011/07/teen-bedroom-tween-bedroom-kids-bedroom.html

For simple white window coverings I like the 2" faux wood blinds. In the U.S. Home Depot sells them, and they can be cut to fit the window at no extra charge. They give complete control of the light, so that you won't have glare on your TV or game screen.

most calming color for bedroom decor?

purrley

What color drapes for a toddlers room- white walls, charchol/brown carpet. want something calming!

Answer
The "cooler" colors are more quieting and soothing than those considered "warm."

Cooler colors are those that tend more toward blue ... warm colors lean more toward red. A "greyed" tone of any color will be more calming than its more "pure" base hue.

A "grey-ish" green-blue might be a perfect color. And, it will work with the brown carpet. Can you paint the walls? If so, I'd recommend a slightly lighter shade of the same color you choose for the window-treatments ... when the elements of a room blend together, the overall effect is one of serenity.

Good Bedroom Decoration Ideas ?

Q. Hi,
I am getting my bedroom redone and i have really no idea on what to do with it. I want something fun, colorful an lively and not to childish but not to grown-up as i am 15. I would appreciate any sort of answers, such as paint colors, Decor ideas andthing really.
I really like the colors pink, gold, black and white. so some ideas using them colors would be amazing .
Thanks

Answer
Black and white is very popular in the bedroom. The key is to pick 3 colors. A light color(most prominent), a darker color(2nd) and then a bold color(for accent).
I would pick a golden color for your walls or do a very light grey. Do black and white bed spread. White curtains. Black and white lamp shades. And for the accent colors - do hot bold pink. Add the accent color in 3 places in the room. could be area rug or picture frame, etc.
Look online - you'll see lots of ideas!

How to decorate rooms of our adopted kids?

Melissa

So basically, I am 31 and my husband is 32. He is a doctor and I am a teacher. Together we have 4 children of our own, Jonas (8), Charles (6), Edward (5) and Alice (0). I am currently on maternity leave.

Last week, my husbands sister passed away. We have never met her but we were informed that we were the next of kin to her three sons, Mason (16), Louis (14) and Oscar (10). We have offered to take them In and care for them.

We have been through the procedure correctly, they are all in schools and will be flying to the UK from New Zeland next week.

They are bringing clothes and toys. Luckily our house is 7 bedrooms, therefore the boys will each get there own room.

The question is, we only know a little about them and have no idea how to decorate their rooms.

So, how do we decorate their rooms? Money is no object? The rooms are all average sized. Please attach pictures and descriptions.

Mason: 16 - He Is head boy in his current school and is very academic. All his teachers say he is lovely, they say he is confident but kind and gentle. He does allot of water sports for fun.

Louis: 14 - The opposite of his brother, he is apparently a trouble maker who can never sit still. He is loud and likes messing around with his friends. He does athletics and running.

Oscar: 10 - Oscar is very shy and clever. He works hard and loves animals of all kinds. He is apparently loving and sweet.

Thanks!

Every child needs and loves his own special spot, whether he or she has to share it with a sibling, maybe even more than one sibling, or is blessed enough to have a room all to themselves.

As a mother who has adopted three children from the foster care system, I've found that setting up a bedroom was different for each one of them. My first adopted child came to live with us as a newborn infant. For this baby, we fixed up a crib in our own bedroom. Decorating for an infant is easy, you just need a warm bed and some bright toys to catch his or her eyes. We hung a mobile over the crib, and put some cute pictures on the wall. He slept contentedly there for many months.

Our second adopted child was a very verbal little girl who came to live with us at the age of two and a half years, continued in our home as a foster child for the next twenty months, and was finally adopted by us when she was four years old. In the beginning, we fixed up the bottom bunk in our older, biological daughter's room, but we soon realized this was not going to work. In the trauma of being removed from her birth mother, one of the ways she acted out was to destroy whatever she could secretly, and sometimes openly, get her hands on. She ripped wallpaper off the walls during the night, colored on the bed and the sheets with markers, and drew on everything she could get her hands on. It didn't take long to realize this arrangement wasn't going to work, as she was destroying our older daughter's much loved room. When another foster child, a six month old girl, came to live with us soon after she did - one who went back to her family a year and a half later - we ended up moving our already adopted son and the two younger girls into the master bedroom, and turned the loft into a bedroom for us. We gave each child a section of this large room for their own. Both of the girls were still having visits with their birth families at the time, so for them, I fixed a wall with pictures of their birth family. The older girl, now our daughter, and her birth mother liked to exchange real (though deceased) butterflies, so I decorated her part of the room with lace butterflies hanging from the ceiling. On the wall just about her headboard, I stapled another lace doily with butterflies on it, framed some of the butterflies her birth mother had given her and hung these on this piece of lace, along with a picture of her mother. These hang on the wall still today, and since our adoption is somewhat open with her birth mother and she still receives butterflies, we continue to add to it.

Our third adopted child was the full sibling brother of our little girl. He moved in with us the day before he was six months old. Our other little foster daughter had left us just less than a month before, so setting up a space for this child was simple: I sat back up the crib I had taken down in tears just three short weeks back, and made ready for my new son. Although he had a crib in the room with his big brother and sister, he slept in a port a crib in my bedroom for many weeks, while he adjusted to his new home and family.

What should I do for a Triplets bedroom?

Isabella

Ok, so our house is medium sized and I'm expecting triplets. We have a seven yr old daughter whose room would be perfect for one of the triplets to share with her. Oh, by the way it's 2 girls and a boy. We have one more bedroom we can spare for the other 2 triplets. But, I really need help on making the room into a boy and girl nursery? Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

Repainting bedroom?

casual_ros

i am a teenage girl going to repaint her bedroom.
i am thinking of a two-toned look: a dusty rose and a tan color.
possibly going with two walls rose and the rest tan.
opinions?

Answer
Beige would look best for all the wall. Decorate your bed in rose/chocolate/white. Lots of pillows in rose/pink/chocolate/beige/white in different shapes to give depth of the bedding. Hang Chocolate curtains with glitter light pink sheers in the back

Associated with: love
Best for: bedrooms as it can be peaceful and restful. A hot fuchsia can introduce passion http://www.bbc.co.uk/homes/design/colour_psychologyofcolour.shtml#brown___
Pitfalls: can be appear to be very girlie and sickly sweet. To counteract this, introduce hints of dark charcoal or black.

The setting and its significance in the The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas?

Silver bul

I know it starts in berlin, moves to Auschwitz, but I dont really know what to write for the significance.

Answer
The book is about a young boy named Bruno who because of his father's job if forced to move from Berlin to the countryside. From his bedroom window, Bruno spots a fence behind which he sees ma in 'striped pyjamas'. These are Jews, and they are in a Nazi concentration camp. One day his parents come to an agreement that both Bruno and Gretel need a tutor for their education, so they hire Herr Liszt. To Bruno, Herr Liszt is the most boring teacher one could ever have; he teaches social science instead of reading and arts, which Bruno prefers. So, in boredom and confusion, Bruno wonders what is going on at "Out-With" (Auschwitz) and why people are always dressed in striped pyjamas there. One afternoon, he goes exploring, and meets a Jewish boy called Shmuel, a name Bruno has never before heard but that apparently is quite common in the concentration camp. Shmuel soon becomes Bruno's friend and Bruno visits every afternoon to talk. Bruno is told that the people in the striped pyjamas on the other side of the fence are Jews and that he and his family are "the opposite".
The story ends with Bruno about to return to the family's old home in Berlin. As a final adventure, he agrees to dress in a set of striped pyjamas and climb under a loose wire in the fence to help Shmuel find his father, who went missing in the camp. The boys are unable to find him, and just as it starts to rain and get dark, Bruno decides he would like to go home, yet the Nazis in the area of the camp force the boys to go on a march. Neither boy knows where this march will lead. However, they are soon crowded into a gas chamber, and the author leaves the story with Bruno pondering, yet unafraid, in the dark holding hands with Shmuel. "...Despite the chaos that followed, Bruno found that he was still holding Shmuel's hand in his own and nothing in the world would have persuaded him to let go".
In an epilogue, Bruno's father subsequently discovers Bruno's clothes by the fence and figures out what happened to him. Several months later, Allied (although not stated, presumably Russian as the Red Army liberated Auschwitz) soldiers come and order the Nazi soldiers to come with them, and Bruno's father goes without complaint, because "he didn't really mind what they did to him anymore".

What ideas are good decor ideas for a teen girls bedroom?

JeSSiCa

I am getting bored with my old bold green room, I am looking for a newer, cheap, and modern look.

Answer
A lot depends on what the girls like. Are they into sports or still in the girly look? It is always a good idea to have a place for makeup and desks for working so can you find a place to work them in? Might even have bunk beds to be able to get more floor space for desk. If you can do 2 desks so each girl has their own area, they can double as computer and homework place and also makeup spot. but each girl needs her own. Maybe even check out dorms and build it more like a college dorm. There they have 2 twin beds and then usually 2 desks, one for each and a closet each. That is about all that goes in a room. A book shelf or even a hutch over the desk is good to put keepsakes and books and supplies. You may be able to pick up desks and huth at a consignment store or a thrift store. I got mine there at the senior center thrift store. You might be able to let them share a printer if the desks are side by side or you have a wireless printer (wireless not in electric but in connection to computer. If girls are going to collee, as they near it you might consider a laptop for each. Some families like to keep the computer in a family area rather than bedrooms though because of the stuff on the internet and they can monitor them.

As to colors, you can keep walls neutral and decoraete using posters or prints. No more princess stuff for teens, but do include fluffy pillows for the beds. If there is space, separate rooms is nice for teir friends to visit.

You can even do a diagonal line across two opposing walls and paint one side one color and one use the diagonal lines to divide the colors and the colors extend for their side only. Then soften it with curtains that pick up both colors and also using posters or framed prints on the walls to break it up. Can do the same with neutral walls. There are also stencils you can put around the top of a room. I did some roses and purple star flwoers with green leaves and it was like an arbor almost and the kids called the room the rose room or the princess room as they felt like princesses in there. But walls were white. I had spreads with big red peonies that almost looked like roses and it had purple star flowers and green leaves so the roses which were very full, looked almost like the spreads and I used red and purple and green in the room. The carpet was even white and I used wool oriental rugs by the bed and a stained glass lamp shade with roses and a Grecian girl brass base. Had to call it the rose room when any of the fewer boys ame to stay. Or let the girls stay there and the boys could stay on sofa or in the big blue big chairwith ottoman. Unfortunaately we have downsized now and don't have all the space we did then as we went to a small cottage and a mobile home. But you might find a stencil the girls like and put it on the walls, either in random patterns or as a border at the top or even dropped down a bit as mine was. I did the stencils around and then did just the roses and no star flowers about every 3rd one above it as it needed soemthing else. I hope I have photos someplace. I haven't caught up with photos since they went into storage.

Good luck in finding something lovely and feminine and yet very practical for the girls.

redecorating toddlers bedroom, should i include education into the design?

apartment

my daughter is turning 2. she got a new toddler bed (espresso colored wood), tinker bell bedding, a tinker bell chair, the little tinker bell couch. so the crib and all the baby toys and decor are going. she's almost at the age where i'm going to introduce letters, numbers, shapes, etc. would buying stuff like alphabet borders, number posters, education stuff be beneficial or should i just let it be her play room? if it doesnt make a difference then i wont bother, but if it does help i think i will include education in the design.

Answer
I found the educational decorations in the room were beneficial for my kids. However if I didn't have them it wouldn't of made much of a difference. I think the decorations more/less helped re-enforce what I had already taught them. It became part of their daily routine when we walked through their room. I guess it made it easy as I didn't actually have to sit down and do it. I could teach them as I was going to get their clothes out of their closet or making their beds.

Here are some things that I have done with my kids for letters, numbers shapes:
1. Painted them on their bedroom walls (like a border around their rooms).
2. Wooden letters/numbers/shapes painted and placed around the room (you can buy them cheap at craft stores/dollar stores and sometimes they come painted)
3. Wall Stickers - they do not stick to your walls with an adhesive but with more of a static. They come in all colors, letters, numbers, and shapes. When your kids are done with them you can take them down
4. Chalk Board Paint - You can paint a chalk board on your child's wall or door and draw them on yourself. The fun thing is that this can grow with them as they get older and they can gradually use it for other purposes.
5. Chalk Board - you can buy these fairly cheap at most office stores hang them in the child's bedroom. The nice thing about chalk is it comes off the walls nicely

These are some things that I have done in my kids bedrooms. My personal favorites have been the chalk board, chalk board paint and the static cling wall stickers. The wall stickers were easy to take down or move if you change the room around. The chalkboard was not just fun for letters but for the kids to play with as well. =)

Wall decor for living room...?

rtutbatt

I have a rather large blank wall in my living room that I am needing to fill. It has no windows, no tv, only a small tree and table with lamp. I wasn't wanting a run of the mill picture or mirror that can be bought at any store, instead i was wanting something unique (other than personal photos) i need to take up quite a bit of room here...any ideas?

Answer
I'm a big fan of etsy, where you buy from independent artists.

Not knowing your colors or themes, it is hard to make a suggestion. But remember to either go very big or get a grouping of similar objects. Prints and other artwork generally look better if they are framed with a white matte, unless they are ready to hang canvases.

A few ideas:
Nice for an earth toned room: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=25474219
Nice for a room that already has some lime green: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=25895805
A grouping of prints from this artist would look nice in a traditional room: http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5799581
Good for a more rustic room: http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5564092&&ga_search_query=mirror+ribbon&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_page=&order=date_desc&includes[]=tags&includes[]=title
Great for a family with kids : http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=16039878
(the artist is on vacation until August, but you can look through her sold items. I know she will also make 11x14 versions, which would do a better job of filling up that wall)

Another thing I like is vintage travel posters. I really prefer ones from places you've already visited so they have personal meaning. All posters will also custom frame it for you.

Need ideas--Redecorating room for 4 yo boy/girl twins!?

treefor3

I'm looking for creative ideas for redecorating my 4 year old boy/girl twins' bedroom. They've outgrown their toddler beds and the babyish nursery decor. We're planning to get them bunk beds and I'd like to update the room. My boy is all "boy"--trucks and cars and the like--and my girl is all "girl"--pink and princesses and ponies. They do share a common love of animals, so I was thinking of doing some sort of animal theme. Any suggestions?

Ideas for horse themed bedroom?

Tessalynn

My mom just told me that this spring we're going to redecorate my room and I'm excited!! The bedding and color of the wall really has nothing to do with horses (the bedding is mostly silver with huge flowers printed on them with purple accents, the paint color will be a lilac or purpleish color). But I want some horse accents in the room, but not sure exactly what...My mom suggested putting up a shelf and then put some horse figures on it (which I think would look great!) But is there anything else we can think of?
I'm a teenager so I don't want anything too kid like...Thanks for the suggestions! ^^

Answer
There are some amazing ideas out there for horse themed rooms ranging from subtle and cheap to more out there and expensive.

Some ideas.
Painting a mural on a feature wall, this can be anything from a horse silhouette to a barn door to a whole wall dedicated to your favourite horse or just a few horse themed decals. Links in Source.

You could swop your door out for a moor barn themed door either a half door or a sliding door
http://www.housebeautiful.com/cm/housebeautiful/images/oE/orange-sliding-barn-doors-0911-berman-mdn.jpg
http://0.tqn.com/d/woodworking/1/0/m/D/-/-/15-FinishedBarnDoor.jpg
http://www.horsenation.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/245094404691965069_4EDoBsC2_c.jpg
Paint it white to keep it more subtle

You could add beams to your ceiling
http://www.housebeautiful.com/cm/shared/images/8D/2-cozyisromantic-familyroom-1207-xlg.jpg
http://hgtv.sndimg.com/HGTV/2012/02/16/HHOV215_bedroom-wood-beam-ceiling-Asian-Indian-influences_s3x4_lg.jpg
You can do this cheaply by using sheet wood (MDF) and 2x2s to create hollow false beams. Stain them dark or paint them white. You could also keep it more of a wood look by cladding the ceiling in wood like the second pic.

You can use horse shoes as decoration or hanging storage
These can often be quite pricey to make but if your dad or granddad is handy he could probably make some for a lot cheaper, ask your local farrier for any old shoes.

You can frame some vintage horse prints and create a feature wall using those
Use google image search to search for nice pictures, if you have a decent printer then you can print them yourself or get them printed for you. Put them in cheap frames (Dollar Store, thrift store), you can recover the frames or leave as is and create a nice wall of pics

Simply use some 2x2s and a couple of poles and paint to desired colours.

Keep it subtle by adding large (or small) canvas with black and white prints on them

Turn a canvas into a headboard for your bed

If you are budgeting for new furniture then these are some lovely pieces:

Bedroom colors for teenage girls?

natalie

I'm redoing my bedroom. I don't want it to be little kid like, so no pinks or purple. I was thinking maybe like yellow and grey? But I can't decide. Somebody give me some ideas!!!

Answer
purple and pink isn't a childish color it just depends on the way you decorate it. my bedroom looks like a regular cute teen bedroom(purple) but luckily i just got my room redone too and i was looking at colors like not too long ago so try these

Redoing my room?

lilvolley7

I have a small room, and it is currently painted a dark blue, this makes the room look much smaller than it is. So we are painting it aqua blue, and I am going to have hot pink accents. We are also putting a shelve up on 3 walls, (about a foot down from the ceiling.) This is where I will put my 450 books!!! I was just wondering if anyone has any ides for decorating, or ways to save space. Pictures are appreciated!!!!
I used to have a loft bed, but it was getting hard to climb up into it. I now have a storage bed, which has a bookshelf as a head board, and three drawers under it.

Answer
If you want your room to look bigger, I guess you should get white furniture! It makes the room look "cleaner"...
You could hang upon the wall cube shelves... You can place photo frames, books and nice stuff in them.. I love cube shelves.. They´re so modern! Check this out:
http://www.target.com/Cube-Collection-White/dp/B000FTGBOA/sr=1-1/qid=1192040727/ref=sr_1_1/602-0840923-3483036?ie=UTF8&index=target&rh=k%3Acube%20shelve&page=1

Also, to keep your room organized, you can buy some storage boxes to keep your small stuff... They´re decorative and cute!!
I really like this color scheme, aqua and pink! But I think it may look kinda "childish"... Try to add some lime accents also... I guess it would give a more funky look to you room....
Get some decorative pillows to throw on the bed.. It´ll look very nice!!

Why do renters put light colored carpet in rentals...?

mudpuppie_

that they know they will be renting out to people with children and pets? I have NEVER rented a home with carpet that wasn't so light it was begging to be stained or soiled. I know that as an adult I am expected to be clean and responsible with my rental and I try very hard. Inevitably however my children drop something (silly putty, glue, a cupcake or a sippy cup with juice in it) or track dirty feet or sit on a dirty butt on the floor. Then I have to clean the carpet which makes it look old. It almost seems that landlords place this light carpet in their rental just to snag your deposit. Is that the case?

Answer
The reasons that landlords use light colored carpets in rental units are many. As noted earlier by others, light colored carpets make rooms look larger. Also, light, neutral colors go well with just about any decor... renters are happier if their brown, blue, tan, orange, green, chartreuse (pick any color) doesn't clash with the carpets.

Finally... but of lesser importance, you're right... light color carpet shows the dirt and stains better. Agreeably, most renters do a good job of taking care of the place... cleaning up after themselves and such... but those few "bad" renters tend to ruin things for everyone... partying and puking... and otherwise trashing the place. Some landlords anyway... at least reputable ones... understand the perils of raising kids and pets, and realize how accidents really are inevitable... and they tend to know their properties too, and have kind of "pro-rated" the carpet; they have a good grasp of how long they can reasonably expect the cheap, ten year rated carpet to last.

As renters, folks should document (with photos, etc.) the condition of the apartment when they sign the agreement, and get the landlord to buy into that. Then if both parties keep signed copies, you can more readily come to an agreement about deposit money with the landlord with that kind of documentation. And... even if you can't reach an agreement with the landlord, you'd stand a much better chance of getting a favorable outcome in small claims court. - for "how long did the landlord expect his cheap, ten year carpeting to last in a rental?"

Redecorating awesome teen girl bedroom?

Q. My room is really dull and boring...I'm going to redo it but the problem is i'm not sure what to put in my room to make it cool! I like those cool egg chairs, and girly stuff (but not TOO girly.) Also what are some places to get stuff for a girls teen bedroom? I tried wakeupfrankie because everyone said it was amazing but I don't really like it...and I tried pbteen too (i like a lot of there stuff.) But all my friends get there bedroom stuff from there and I wan't to get stuff for my room somewhere different then them, ya know? :) Link some cool teen bedroom deocor,bedding,ect...websites similar to pbteen and wakeup frankie and stuff like that! Thanks guys :D

Answer
Try Sweet Dreams Decor. They have a big selection of teen bedding. Just go to
http://www.sweetdreamsdecor.com/teen-bedding/teen-girls-bedding/.

Then use the filters on the right to narrow down the bedding choices by size, color, pattern, etc.

As far as cool, modern looking furniture, try ikea. I like to go to the store, but they have a web site as well.

Cool ideas for a teen girls bedroom?

AnnMarie

i am redoing my room soon and i need some ideas!! i have picked the color i want to do. i am doing teal/pool colors, and white. :) i need cute ideas for things to set around the room, decor ideas, anything!! thank u!!

Answer
Do realize that in bedroom décor worlds, like spread and accessories, this year's teal, aqua, etc.. ma not match or coordinate with next year's shades or hues. This is all the more important if you are purchasing things on sale, typically slightly older merchandise, and hope to finish up later.

When pre-teen and teen types ask for bedroom décor ideas, I like to suggest that they look around but then save some of their budget for DYI equipment, tools, and supplies. For example, once you've seen some of the magazine holders available for sale it doesn't take too long to see that the shape can be easily cut out of a cereal box with an exacto or utility knife using a metal edged ruler for a straight edge. From there, the box can be covered in anything ranging from brown mailing or printed gift wrap paper, paint, or cloth. In fact, when you look at the décor magazine holders in the $20 or higher range, you will find that many are basically a covered, cardboard box. The cost of the equipment, tools, and supplies for the first constructed holder can often be no more expensive than the cost of one purchased holder from the décor storage department; the cost of additional constructed holders then goes down depending upon the supplies chosen. And, thrift stores like Goodwill are great places for finding low-cost supplies and materials; look through the linens and curtain departments but, even the cloth cut from an old formal often works well for smaller projects.

This said, lace appears to be quite popular in the clothing world and, gaining in the décor world. Spray adhesive, a glue gun, some scissors, and old lace or netting can be used in all sorts of ways. Consider covering your lamp shade, trash can, or book ends with some lace or netting cut from purchased yardage, remnants, or out of something de-constructed from the thrift store. Make gathered ruffles of the same and attach using a glue gun or thread and needle. You can also use the same to make painted designs on items; tack the lace on the item then paint to leave the lace pattern in the underlying color.

If you truly want to save some money, learn how to paint furniture, accessories, and things like picture frames. This will require some tools, equipment, and skill building. A sewing machine is also another investment that can return untold dollars when talking about room décor projects.

Learning some of these types of DYI skills, how to think out of the box, how to duplicate and/or improve on what you've seen on the store shelf or showroom floor, and getting a basic collection of equipment, tools, and supplies can give you a whole life time's worth of savings too.

Ideas on styling my room ?

Q. I'm a teen and I want to re-do my room . I like colors combo but i don't know what color combo ( black/white/lime green, pink/purple/white etc.) I wanted things in it like beads and i wanted a comforter that doesn't look like a kid's comforter . I also wanted to resemble my interests.
I like Dancing
Fashion
Desiging
Shopping

I'll accept all answers
Websites if possible plz !

Answer
You could paint one wall, preferably the wall behind your bed a medium shade of purple, and hang up vinyl records on the wall. If your room is pretty small, try not to paint your walls dark colors, it makes your room seem smaller!

Or you can use some of these decals on your wall:
http://www.decaljunky.com/cart/c-66-dance.aspx
They're all dancing ones

Now, to get more of a "fashion" feel to your room, you can try adding mannequins! You can find a lot on ebay! Try Putting clothes on a rack and not in a closet, it adds more of a fashion vibe. A couch. Although it's kind of expensive if it will last a long time and its worth it.

Mirrors make a nice addition since it reflects light, and makes the room look bigger.
Cloose favorite colors and shapes. Colors should reflect your moods and personality. Different colors of shaped objects in the decor like clocks, picture frames, chairs, floral arrangements, help accent every room to the max.

I like rummage sales to pick out different objects that look interesting and make a conversation piece.

Old books stacked are sophisicated, old dishes used for candle holders or jewelry holders are very stylish.

I look for objects that I might be able to hang my jewelry on for part of my decor, hold a hat, hold a throw blanket for those chilly fall days, baskets for holding makeup, brushes, etc.

clear shoe holders hang on the back of your door for all of those quick to get items used every day. school items, hair items, makeup, under garmets, cleaners for facials, hair, or just bathing, perfumes, ....anything you can imagine!

Use flat plastic containers to put under the bed for extra blankets, or extra decorations to trade out sometimes to make the room look a bit different without spending over budget. However you decide, it has to be YOU! Have fun sweetie!

Now for the wall colors:

Purple and green are the opposite colors so its perfect combo. Add a hint of pink, blue or both to add that variety. Use the white and or silver as your accent colors. I would suggest to paint an accent wall. Have your two walls dedicated as your black & white movie style pictures. Use basic black frames for them. You can usually buy the frames for cheap if you stick with the plastic black ones. This will also draw the attention to the pic not the frame. You might want to use one horizontal stripe on two sides of the room to make it longer. Vertical to make it taller. Use a solid purple color comforter with plaid, square or flowery styled pillows

Best place for comforters for the color scheme you want are Walmart & Target. Black & white pics is target. For lamps and maybe some shelving, Bed Bath & Beyond.

Of course trying to figure out your room with out looking at it, Im only guessing here but if your walls are small by your entry door, add two long mirrors. If the window is opposite from your door, natural light will bounce from them and make the room appear larger. Also the mirrors can be written on with dry erase board markers could be used for msg's, reminders or important dates.
For your windows, drapes can be soft and sheer. One idea you can do is find sheer material to drape across and over the window. Another way is to find an inexpensive shower curtain, preferably sheer. maybe a white one, cut 4" of ribbon (fun and colorful maybe even feathery) tie around the holes of the shower curtain (leaving enough room for it to slide back and forth on the curtain rod.) glue on flowers or sequences. You will have your very own unique curtain.

Hope I helped,

themed kids rooms?

jes

my son is afraid to sleep in his room
his doctor suggested that we redecorate it
paint it and all that
im looking for different "themes"
or just painting ideas
id like to see some pictures of things that wouldnt be too hard or expensive....not a lot of money or a lot of talent
so if you know any good sites for ideas and pictures thatd be great thanks

Answer
I was on a budget when I did my son's room too! I went to walmart to buy primer and paint. Their paint is cheaper, but I've never had it crack or chip, and it's been up for years. After I painted, I went to Dollar Tree. In their handy-man section as I call it, they have all sorts of room decor stickers. They stay up no matter the temperature, and if he rips one off the wall, it won't ruin the paint and will go right back onto the wall. They're great! At my local Dollar Tree they have Winnie the Pooh, Barbie, Cinderella and other Disney princesses, Spiderman, Finding Nemo, etc. If they don't have something you'd like, then go to a different Dollar Tree. Walmart also has these stickers, they just aren't a dollar.

Ideas for kids bedrooms?

NeedAdvice

We just built a new house and we are getting ready to move in. I am wondering if anybody has ideas for themes for their rooms/ decorating ideas??

I have 6 kids so its alot to think about.

a boy age 9, a boy age 7, two girls both 5, and two more boys both 3.

one of the youngest boys i am already doing a jungle theme but i am stuck on all the other rooms.

any advice??

Answer
Jungle theme is so common, don't you think? I mean, no offense.
Make sure to include things the kids like.

For the oldest boy, do something simple but include things like hobbies. Remember, he's going to grow up quick and before you know it, he'll be in middle school, interested in other stuff. Pick colors he likes. Black or wood furniture sounds good to me. For decorations you could do posters of things he likes, such as video games.

For the 7 year old... I suggest cars. I think there's lots of things that you could find that have to do with that. For colors, cars mostly remind me of red, royal blue, and gold. I like the idea of red walls.

It depends if the girls are sharing a room or not. If they are not. Green and purple sounds nice. It would be nice if you did a sort of inverse thing. Like color one girl's walls purple and the other's green, one girl's curtains green and the other purple. Things like that. White furniture would look nice.

For the 3 year old, do a dinousar theme. Colors: green and red. I don't have many suggestions for this one.

Nursery themes and budget?

Fall-Leave

My twin sister is pregnant, and is driving me nuts coming up with nursery themes (I love her but sometimes I think the hormones are going to her brain...). She hasn't learned if its a boy or girl yet, but wants to think of some theme for both. I don't mean necessarily unisex, but separate lists to narrow down later. So far the only thing she's said is she wants to avoid super cliche themes like sports for boys and princesses for girls. But I'm trying to think of a list for more the next time we visit. So far I have

Boys
1. dinosaurs 2. planes, trains, cars 3. nautical 4. animals (safari/jungle) 5. underwater
Girls
1. geometric 2. garden 3. nautical 4. animals (safari/jungle) 5. underwater

Any other ideas I can add to the list?

Also, before it gets really crazy, is there some sort of budget we should think of for it overall? She won't think of it (hormones..), and since I'll be the one shopping with her, I was curious. I don't have any children of my own to compare.

Answer
Congrats Auntie!

Themes: Butterflies, clowns, balloons, night owls, alphabet letters/numbers, bugs/bees/ladybugs, frogs, and teddy bears.

There are many removable wall stickers you can use that look great and won't damage walls (I currently have Jungle and butterfly wall stickers in my kids' rooms, and is pretty inexpensive).

As for a budget, I don't remember spending much at all- we got so much from the baby showers. However, if you (or your sister) can't really count on getting what you need from family and friends, you could get some nice baby items on craigslist or freecycle (if it is available where you live) for a LOT less than what they sell in stores. Babies grow out of things so quickly so you can get items that are like new for a fraction of what they sell for in stores (e.g., swings, cribs, baby bedding, clothes).

Good luck!

From the internet:
If your budget is limited, before considering ways to decorate your babyâs nursery, consider your budget. After deciding on a spending limit, begin a running list of ideas and expenses to better organize your thoughts as well as your resources. Create a list, and separate the list into âmust-havesâ and âwishesâ. If you find yourself going over budget, it will be easier to choose design options and embellishments you actually need and those you can live without.

Bedroom ideas for a 16 year old girl?

:D

Hi i'm 16 and i just moved into a new house and I have NO idea what to do with my room what so ever.

I am really into like makeup and fashion and stuff :)
The only 1 thing I don't want is Pink walls, i have had different shades of pink walls all my life and I don't want them anymore,

I really want my room to reflect me. I don't want it to look like a 30 year olds room or a 5 year olds room, i want people to walk in and just know that its my room... iunno do u get it?

Thanks :)

Answer
Really bright neon colours, funky lamps and stuff. My room is all lime green walls and one hot pink wall. It looks cool when one wall is different than the rest. Another thing I did is I bought a really cool picture frame with 8 different slots and they like sort of overlap eachother and some are in front with others behind them and stuff and I printed out pictures of things I like, each one on a different colour paper and put them in the frames. It looks really cool. Also, I took one of those kid's puzzle piece playmat kinda things (like this without the letter:http://n3eshop.co.uk/WebRoot/StoreDaily/Shops/eshop378054/4AE7/7B7F/C953/AE0C/8A76/C0A8/0ADD/5727/Alpha_0020_Close_0020_Up.jpg) and turned it and put it up on my wall so it's a diamond and tacked a bunch of pictures and stuff to it. Also, I put in a pocket door (like one that slides into the wall) for my closet and the back of it is entirely mirrors. It makes the room look bigger too. Just really colourful and cute and fun (:
