Q. My parents had a new baby boy so now my sister has to move into my bedroom which is in the attic. My room was only designed for one person and there's no way another bed will fit in there the way it is at the moment. It needs to be completely re-designed. Do you have any ideas? Or do we need to like get somebody in to do it?If we do,do you know of anyone like that in ireland?Me and my sister both have horses so we would like our room to be 'horsey'.Any ideas?

Answer
you could try puttring in bunk beds and you could go to fat head and get a big horse sticker and maybe get green carpet like grass paint your walls baby blue for the sky and paint white clouds on the ceiling .. if you hav any brick walls in your attic, leave them it'll add to the outdoor theme .

Paris Themed Room Help.?

RainbowSpr

So, over the course of the summer I would like to turn my "Little kiddie" room into a Paris themed room, but im having trouble finding a Hot Pink- Black- and white comforter, a full length, over the door black mirror and a hot pink desk chair. Any help is appreciated, thanks(:

Answer
Wow, well it sounds like a great project! A key word that you should search for online is 'baroque', baroque furniture is beautiful and ornate, and is exactly what parisian style is.

Here are links for the comforter:
http://www.artisticsensations.com/asp/product3.asp?maincategoryid=&catalogid=1972
http://www.deckmydorm.com/dorm-bedding-set-paris.html
http://www.nextag.com/black-pink-and-white-bedding/shop-html
http://www.pbteen.com/products/suite-organic-duvet-cover-and-sham/?pkey=cgirls-bedding-all
for the french-style pattern that you are probably looking for, you should search for 'damask'

Full length mirror: I think that it is very hard to find nice over-the-door mirrors in that style, but if you have to have one then there are plain black ones like this:
http://www.kaboodle.com/reviews/photo-frame-door-mirror--black
Or if your could have a mirror on a wall then there are some beautiful ornate ones like this:
http://www.frenchbedroomcompany.co.uk/products/mirrors_and_screens/full_length_mirrors/631.html

Desk chair:
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S59884560#/S49884532/

I would suggest you get a dressing table and a french style mirror like this but maybe in black: http://www.frenchbedroomcompany.co.uk/products/tables/dressing_tables/062.html
http: //direct.tesco.com/q/R.209-3352.aspx?utm_source=GoogleShopping&utm_medium=GSF_NormalFeed&utm_campaign=GSF_TescoDirect&utm_content=209-3352

You could have letters on the wall saying something in French, maybe 'Bonjour' (hello), 'Je Taime' (i like/love you) or 'Je T'adore'( i love/adore you). This would be decorative, as well as adding to the Paris theme.

Is gay marriage a predessessor to infinite "alternate lifestyles"?

If gays deserve their lifestyle as a fundamental civil right, why not polygamists and...etc.?

Liberals mock conservatives for claiming that we are on a moral "Slippery Slope," but letâs look at the facts.

-20 years ago gays proclaimed: âItâs none of your business what I do in the bedroom!" But their gay âlifestyleâ somehow left the bedroom and is today being taught to school children: "Heather has Two Mommies" is a text book for kids in NYC.

-8/18/12 foxnews.com: California law barring parents from 'curing' gay children moves through legislature.

-10/11/12 http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2012⦠France: Legislation that would legalize same-sex marriage and give homosexual couples the right to adopt children also would replace the terms âmotherâ and âfatherâ with âparent 1â and âparent 2â in all legal documents, including birth certificates.

-11/2/12 http://www.campusreform.org/blog/?ID=448⦠Evergreen State College in Washington State: A public schoolâs ânon-discrimination policyâ allows Colleen Francis, a 45 year-old biological male who identifies as a woman, to use the womenâs locker room and restrooms. The police report stated that Colleen was âsitting with her legs open with her male genitalia showingâ with girls as young as six years old present.

-8/13/12 theblaze.com: Democrat Mary Gonzalez, Texas House of Representatives, is a "pansexual." She defines that as one who is "...attracted to men, women, men who identify as women, women who identify as men, and everything in between.â

-Woody Allen had an affair with his daughter-in-law. Morgan Freeman had an affair with his granddaughter-in-law.

-11/6/12 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-⦠A father and daughter told the TV audience about spending seven years in a sexual relationship and conceiving two children. "John and I are in this relationship as consenting adults," Jenny told Australia's 60 Minutes program last night, "We are just asking for a little bit of respect and understanding."

-In a recent episode of the History Channelâs miniseries âMidwifeâ an elderly brother and sister lived together incestuously for decades. When the two died in each otherâs arms -- he of cancer, she of suicide -- the head nun (yes, a nun) eulogized: âItâs not who you love thatâs important, itâs love itself that defines human beings.â

Now 6, Tyler (formerly known as Kathryn) has been living as a boy after his family made a public switch 18 months ago when Kathryn insisted she was really a boy. A psychiatrist told the family that the switch would be healthy if they allowed Kathryn to pick a boy's name and if they were to able find a kindergarten that would allow them to enroll the child as a boy

Answer
Answering your question, without reading the many following paragraphs, I believe you've made a good point. I am NEITHER a Rep or Dem, Lib or Con, but agree & disagree with many issues on both sides.
Only from a legal standpoint, do I agree with assumption that it opens the door for polygamists, etc. That is my ONLY concern. Otherwise, I have nothing against people living the lifestyle they want. I prefer to live and let live.
Bigamists, Polygamists etc. would create a legal nightmare in tax money and time stolen from dealing with more pressing political issues.

Answer
I'm at university right now studying Children's Nursing (: in the future I want to become a pediatric nurse. Becoming a pediatric nurse is something I have always wanted to do as I love the job & role of a nurse and I love children. I am unsure what word I want to work on but my first option is on pediatric surgical as I love anything to do with surgery and your patients stay there for a long time so you get to know them and their families & build a report with them. I also wouldn't mind working in pediatric intensive care, pediatric ocnology or intensive care. I would also like to work in A&E as it loads of fun and very fast paced but I think before I work there I wil work in wards to gain some more experience. If I work in pediatric ocnlogy I would like to work at the Royal Mardsen and Royal Brompton hospital in Chelsea, if I work in A&E I would want to work at St Mary's Hospital and otherwise if I work anywhere else I would love to work at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). I want to become a nurse and also a mentor for student nurse - take them under my wing and show them the ropes of being a nurse and I would love to become a sister as I am very organised and I like going to meetings & being in charge. I would also like to do something with fashion like making youtube videos (in the future) as a beauty and fashion guru and also a fashion blogger where I would write reviews for Chanel (my dream) and also be an interior designer on the side as I love furntiniture and everybody compliments my style. I would also like to study Psychology at UCL or Cambridgre (doubt that's going to happen) because I want to become a counselor for teens suffering from teen bullying like I have gone through and give them the help and support they need and deserve to get over it and for them to talk to somebody who understands, can relate and help them.

I don't really know where I want to live in the future. I currently live in London which is cool but I wouldn't mind living in Paris as I love the fashion, the food, the beauty, the history and everything about Paris. Geneva or New York City or Canada. If I live in England I would like to live in the country side and then commute down to London for work, but right now I don't have a set plan but I do speak fluent French and German which is good so I can live in a French speaking country.

I would like to get married and I would like to have a beach wedding but I also like country home weddings and church weddings. I do want to have children - I do want my own family but I don't know how many I am going to have. I would like 2 children as I am an only child and it sucks but I don't know if I will have more than 2. 3 would be the perfect number but I would be okay with 2. I would love to have one of each, a boy and a girl :) I would name my daughter Lily and my son Noah as those are my favourite names. I also like the names Isabelle, Ella and Harry but my favourite names change all the time. I don't want to write about my children's personalities as I have no idea what they're going to look like and how they're going to be but I know that I will love them with all my heart and be there for them whenever they need me. I would like one of children to become a doctor as it's a great job with money and job security and one of my daughter's to become a ballerina like myself. I would like my children to be outgoing, have respect for others, be talented and have passion, hard working and go to top unis.

I would like to live in an apartment first but once I settle down I would like a big house. My room with an en suite and then another room for my clothes. I would like a 4 bedroom house so my kids have their own room, a big kitchen as I love to cook, a study, big sitting room and a huge garden for my kids to play in and I can grow my own veggies and fruits.

xoxo

How do i create a Greek themed bedroom?

F@$H!#N

How would i go about creating a greek themed bedroom. I was thinking either beach-y or mythological.

1. What colors do i use?
2. What do i put in the room to make it feel like Greece?

Thanks :D
Please provide links and pictures. Thank You!

Answer
Well the colours that I associate with greece is Blue and white, not only because of the flag but from the fact that a lot of the buildings are painted white with a bluRIroof.
http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.theodora.com/wfb/photos/greece/greece3.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.theodora.com/wfb/photos/greece/greece_photos_02.html&usg=__KFkZhqgTjNAhKgm5fFoqxviI1QM=&h=525&w=700&sz=80&hl=en&start=3&um=1&tbnid=y3S-hPgbZITobM:&tbnh=105&tbnw=140&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dgreece%26hl%3Den%26rlz%3D1T4SNYK_en-GBGB270GB271%26um%3D1
Like that :)

I wouls say that a good Idea is to paint 3 walls in white and one feautre wall that beautiful blue colour :)
Also I would say get large(ish) pictures/posters of greece, I know that places print canvases with your choice of photo so maybe you could even use one of your own or maybe some of the buildings, beach or the historical aspects e.g. acropolis.

Another colour I tihnk would be nice to mix in is gold as gold and white to me adds to the greek goddess type feel, I would say get white gurtains made out of a thin material and if you have enough space in your room get them longer so that they 'puddle' at the bottom. Also tie them back with some gold ribbon making sure the draping at the windows look good.
For other room accessories I would say just use nice blue and gold things, maybe a white bedcover with blue and gold cushions or throws, maybe even if you could get hold of some greek flag pillows. Also if you have a canopy bed that would be perfect and use a simillar idea to the curtains e.g. drape sort of like this http://images.hayneedle.com/mgen/master:HOOK454.jpg

For things such as desks or bedside tables you can try and get hold of plaster pillars and add a glass top to them as this would really complete the theme.
Ohh and you can find your name in greek and paint it on your blue wall in white paint :)

How should I decorate my boys room?

boys bedroom wall decor
on Christmas Lights - Fun Way to Decorate
boys bedroom wall decor image
Q. I have a 8, 3 and 3 month old in the same bedroom. I want to move but the 3 bedroom apt are full and we can't afford a house right now.

Answer
A decorating theme is a great way to begin decorating a room for a child. If you're like most parents, you've probably spent lots of time thinking about decorating your new child's room even before he joined your family. While bunnies are cute and teddy bears are darling, you might want something different for the bedroom or playroom.

There are lots of great themes for boys' rooms. A special theme will provide both the focus and the inspiration for a special one-of-a-kind room and can be adapted as your child grows. Time to get started!

Bug's Life
From bees and ants to frogs and reptiles, creatures of nature often capture a child's attention. Browse theme ideas at Posh Tots including a Bug Off Table and Chair Set, Bug bed linens, and or frog lamp.

Favorite Animals
What boy wouldn't love a room focusing on his favorite pet? Whether it's a dog or cat, bird or snake, using this theme will make your son (and his pet) feel particularly at home. Be sure to put up lots of pictures with your son and his best friend around the room and make sure you have stuffed animals scattered everywhere.

Playhouse / Playtown
This theme will provide a wonderful scheme for decorating your son's room and provide lots of wonderful playtime possibilities as well. A whimsical or the cute playtown chest can be your starting point. Or, do a border in kids designs or paint a mural of a street scene on one or more walls. Name the storefronts for family members ("Katie's Groceries", "Ted's Puppet Theatre", "Todd's Bike Shop", "Anne's Pet Heaven", "Sara's Video Den", or Dennis' Book Nook").

Safari
For a safari look, find wonderful, colorful animal wallpaper borders and fabrics at any wallpaper store. Paint the walls blue, tan, ivory, or any of the colors in your wallpaper border. Make pillows and valances from coordinating leopard-print fabrics, and find some stuffed lions and tigers for the corner. Mount a butterfly net, binoculars, or straw hat on the walls. Use colorful matboard and frame some of your child's artwork to display. Maybe he'll draw some lions!

Rustic Cabin
Most every child loves spending time at camp or in the mountains. And what parent doesn't have happy childhood memories of hiking, boating, fishing, or just enjoying the outdoors. Birdhouses, bears, moose, and fish might show up in wallpaper borders, in fabrics, bedding, and accessories. For a rustic room you might also choose comfy plaid patterns, flannel fabrics, and log or pine beds. Accessories might use forest themes of animals, mountain scenes, or natural materials such as pine cones, leaves, and sticks. Take another cue from camp and use a sturdy trunk to store toys. With a room this nice, who needs a vacation?

Rain Forest
Choose a colorful jungle border, or try a jungle area rug. Soft fabric snakes and colorful stuffed birds or butterfly cutouts can add to the decor. Make pillows of animal or jungle prints and use themed accessories. Grrr!

Race Cars
With car racing, you think black and white checkered flags, and a finish line. Find an area rug with a car track design. A car bed might be fun, or decorate the walls with a car wall appliques. Add some framed calendar photos or posters of race cars, and put up narrow shelving to display car collections. Zoom!

Outer Space
Take a trip to the stars using a space theme. An Apollo bed set, outerspace border, or star-studded rocking chair might be just the items that inspires your child to reach for the stars. Paint reflective planets or stars on the ceiling in arrangements of the constellations.

Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines
If Dad is in the service, you might let your boy feel patriotic with a room painted in camouflage and outfitted with tanks and desert colors.

Sports
From soccer to baseball to football, sports is a theme that spans the generations. To use a baseball theme for example, use a headboard made from bats, hang curtains from bats used as curtain rods, make a baseball lamp, or hang shelving to display gloves, pennants, and trophies. Paint the room in the colors of your son's favorite team. Sports themed rugs, furniture, and beds are another possibility. Create similar looks for other sports, and you'll have a room that is a big "hit" with sports fans. Play ball!

Wild Colors
Go wild by starting with a lively area rug designed in fun colors for a child. Take your cue from the rug for colors and designs for the rest of the room. Use color everywhere! Paint every surface of a bookcase a different color, and do the same with headboard slats, drawer fronts, and chair legs. This is a great way to help your little one learn his colors! Find a fabric to compliment the rug and use it to tie the room together with window valances or floor pillows.

Movie or Cartoon Characters
There's something for everyone in this theme! Whether your son has been captivated by Mickey Mouse, Alladin, Lion King, Toy Story, or Scooby Doo -- you'll probably be able to find bedding, lamps, and other decorative items that use these themes. Towels for the bathroom and toys will be easy to add.

Pirates
The story of Peter Pan can inspire creative parents to design a wonderful room. Boys intrigued by the notion of pirates will love a room using blue ocean themes, ship masts, portholes, netting, treasure boxes, and secret play hideaways.

Knights and Castles
Artistic parents can faux paint castle walls, murals, and blue skies for a truly memorable room. Use the theme of "A Sword in the Stone" or "Camelot" for inspiration. Find another take on this theme offered by for Mercy's Sake in their Galahad collection.

Trains, Planes, and Automobiles
There are lots of colorful choices in bedding, fabrics, and wallpaper that feature transportation themes. Make a train track border around the room, hang airplanes from the ceiling, or go wild with a car-shaped bed.

Cowboy Kids
This is a fun theme where you can let your imagination run wild. Think bandana valances, chaps wall hangings, tin stars, horses, rope borders, and more. The baby dude designs offered by for Mercy's Sake offer some fun possibilities. Or check out OliveKids.com Camp Wilderness or the Wild West theme designs from PoshTots.com for more creative examples of this theme and products to add to your decor.

Dinosaurs
From cute and stylized to realistic and ferocious -- dinosaurs themes are still popular. If you suspect this is a passing phase for your little one, then opt for solid color bedding and walls, using theme elements in borders, sheets, valances, and posters.

How should a 14 year old boy decorate his room?

Q. my family thinks about repainting the walls of my bedroom. so i want
some ideas about what colours should i use to paint my walls.
(there are light yellow now and one of them is blue.)
also some tips about how to decorate my room?

Answer
Choose a color that suits your liking, not just something that's in. Last summer, I want to paint my room gold but I had to do with blue. Whatever color you pick, just be sure you're comfortable with it.

Hang decorations on your wall. You can have an abstract wall which you can fill with decor while the other three remain plain. Be yourself and unleash your creativity. If you don't have money, improvising will do.

Keeping your room clean should also be considered a necessity. I had a hard time cleaning my room, it took me about 2 weeks to get rid of rats, ants and candy wrappers. If you don't want the same thing to happen to you, start cleaning your room now.

Okay so I want to paint my walls Hot Pink and Black...I'm having all black furniture... Would it look okay to have lime green decor in it? Or would that be too much? THANKS!

Answer
Depends on whether it's some zebra pillows, or a lot more pattern than that. A lime green glass piece would be fine, but with black walls and furniture, I'd rather see more white.

Need some easy decorating ideas for a Master Bedroom?

Jen

We have an older four poster oak bedroom set-its sturdy and well made and I just cant bring myself to get rid of it. I would really love to spice up my bedroom decor but cant figure out what would go well with the brown oak "country style" bedroom set. Im more into a contemporary or eclectic look now and I need help with some options...thanks.

Answer
I had a Lane bedroom set. It was solid oak and gorgeous. It had a canopy bed, triple dresser, armoire and two nightstands. I had that set for at least 30 years and it looked like new.

But times and tastes change and I wanted something more modern or at least "different".

Trust me, nothing you do to that "country style" set is going to satisfy you if your taste has changed. Bite the bullet and let it go. I sold my old set reasonably to someone that loved it as much as I did when it was new so I knew it went to a good home.

I then bought a new set that is just what I wanted at this point in my life. I don't go for the "sturdy, well made" (translated "really expensive") stuff anymore (I'm not talking about buying junk either, I got my new set at Ashley) because then you have it forever and get tired of it. If you take good care of whatever you buy it will last you for as long as you love it. Then, when you don't "love it" anymore you won't feel so bad to let it go.

Life is short, you deserve to have what makes you happy today!!

Edited: I work for a store that sells furniture wholesale and I update their catalogs. Believe me when I tell you that if you paint the "country" furniture black, it's going to look like black "country" furniture (I see hundreds of sets of black "country" furniture). Country is country is country. If you try to put modern stuff in, on and around your "country" stuff, it's going to scream "she's trying not to look country, but it's country with modern stuff". It won't go. I had country decorating in my home. My husband bought me a baby grand piano. When they bought it in and set it down amidst my "country" stuff, you could almost hear the piano saying "What's all this stuff?" I had to change my decor to go with the piano (much more sophistocated victorian). Modern stuff has clean lines and there is no way to make country stuff look modern.

I'll say it again, life is short, get what you really want and enjoy it.

How can I get a surfer style bedroom?

beach themed girls bedroom
on Bedroom Ideas on Bedroom Ideas Bedroom Comfortable With Beach Theme ...

HollyPolly

I love brands like Fat Face, Billabong, Roxy etc. and the whole surfer look but I was wondering how to get that style in my bedroom? I've only got a tiny bedroom but I'm up for any suggestions - please add photos if you can.

Answer
I would definitely stay away from creating a too cheesy surfer room. For example, I was looking up some pictures for you and there were cheap grass skirts as the bedskirt for the bed and little tiny surfer lamps and stuffed monkeys and dolphins and stuff....cheesy. To make a gooood surfer room, I'd choose a bright color that you like for the walls or maybe two as in the picture provided below. The room below has lime green and orange but if you like other bright colors better, that'd be okay too. When you look for room examples like this, I always just use the picture as a shell and interchange my color preferences, etc. So paint the walls a bright color, I actually like the blue in the second picture provided for the walls. You'll want to keep white in your room too..the molding around the room, in the bedspread, maybe the bed frame, the dresser and anything you can really. Because you have a really bright wall, you need that white to offset it and make it more beachy and light. So chose your bedspread. There are plenty of bedspreads that are actually billabong and roxy beach spreads if you want that. You can also chose a hawaiian print theme, but I feel like that's borderline cheesy as well. If I were you, I would choose a full white bedspread in a light fabric. Choosing a completely white bedspread will also make the room and your bed feel and look bigger. It's really your preference though, as I know some people love the hawaiian print. I love the wicker in the first room provided. And I love how they painted it, but I also just love wicker plain. So if you're tight on cash or you just like the wicker not painted, just keep it like it is. Wicker just reminds me of outdoor furniture you'd have at a beach house though. I'm not sure what color your carpet is or if you have wood floors. It'd be ideal if you had wood flooring and then I'd add a straw beach mat as the rug at the foot of the bed or at the side of the bed, depending on the positioning of the bed. I'd get white lamps like the one in the first bedroom provided, the two inbetween the two beds on the nightstand. Again, I'm not sure how you are on money, but if you can afford it, I'd definitely splurge on a full sized surfboard to put somewhere in your room, behind a wicker chair or in a corner by itself. I'll provide a link to a cheaper board (in the world of surfboards it's considered very cheap.) I'd also get some beach themed decor. I like the word beach spelled out above the bed in the second picture. I also love the wood nightstand in the second bedroom, you can see the top slats of it, but I would paint it white. I was recently at Marshalls and they had extremely nice and sophisticated beach themed decor that could fill up probably two to three rooms. If you have a Marshalls by you, you should take a look there. Also, TJ Maxx. If not though, I'm sure you can find really cute beach stuff online. Even if you went to a craft store and bought a hurricane candle holder, a pillar candle, and sand and/or shells, that would be awesome to put on your nightstand. You could also buy a cheap starfish and shells online too to put around your room. The options are endless!! :) Here are all the links:

How can i keep my dog entertained throughout the day while no one is home?

kids bedroom dog theme image
Q. she is a golden retriever and its HOT

Answer
First of all I hope she is totally house broken and house safe to be left alone all day. Depending on her age, temperment and maturity. I wuld never, never crate a dog all day. I have heard of some that do. You need to leave her gradually trying being alone, say starting with 2 hours, then half a day before moving up to all day. Get her or him used to being alone. Some dogs have separation issues. Also how long is all day. It could be anywhere from 8 hours to 12. I know I would hate going 12 hours without a bathroom break.

I would not let the dog have total access to the whole house. If you can you could gate off say the parts of the house without carpet say like the kitchen and hall. I would definately close off all the bedrooms. If you had a basement that might even be a great option. I would child proof the house and make sure there was nothing that the dog might be tempted to get into. Like medicine or the all welcoming trash-can. Also you should get some toddler cabinate locks to keep the dog out of cleaners you may have under your sinks like in the kitchen. It would be really sad to have an accident like a poisening while you are out or at work. Dogs are like small kids they can get into anything. I am at home all day practicully and my Lab is still mouthy and I caught her more than once with a plastic razor she got out of the bathroom. I would just keep the bathrrom doors closed anyway.

You of course need to leave water (I love the ice idea for in the summer, my dog actually loves to eat ice), but I would not feed a dog and then expect them to go all day without a walk. Although I wouldn't leave food down that he could eat on freely I do recommend a "Kong". Most dogs love them. You can put a couple table spoons of Peanut butter in them. This should be used only as a I am going to be alone and this is a grest treat I get when I am alone. They feel like they are being awarded something for being alone. It really occupies them for a long time. The dog might play with it trying to get the Peanut butter out, get bored with it but later go back after it.

I really like the TV being left on. If you get animal planet that's my dogs favorite channel. Plus I think having the sound of voices helps. I would leave only a few of the dogs favorite toys out so you can rotate them so they don't get boring.

I know this might sound crazy but I actually isn't. If you have an answering how about a call in the middle of the day? The dog gets to hear your voice and you can say stuff like be a good dog and stuff. I will go you one better. I saw where they have these programs that you can actually set up computer cams to check on your kids though the day, well they can also be used for your pets as well. If you have access to a computer you can pop in the web cam site any time to see if your dog is OK.

Another thing you could do for the TV thing is make your own movie for the dog starring you. The sky is the limit on the themes and things you could do with that.

At last there is the hire a walker or doggy friend to come by mid day to walk and play with the dog. They get them outside and exercise them for at least an hour a day. If you know a trusted friend or a trust worth teenager that would be great. You don't always have to hire a professional. If you find your dog absolutely hates being alone or can't handle it you could possibly find a doggie daycare for while your at work. Now this also could be done by a neighbor as well. Or how about finding someone else that might want to trade of with their doggie baby sitting needs. Or you could offer help to them say with a need they might be willing to trade with you. Like I check on your dog in the middle of the day and you mow my grass. I am a stay at home mom and I can say I would rather baby sit a dog over a kid anyday. I hope this helps and no one thinks I am too nutty. Evita

How do I get my almost 7yr old to sleep in her own bed?

mmuradian

My husband let my youngest child start sleeping with us when she was about 2. Now, she is almost 7 and still gets up in the middle of the night to sleep with us. Even if she falls asleep on the couch, recliner, her bed, her sisters bed...she still comes to our bed. He tells her she has to start sleeping in her own bed but he doesn't reinforce it because its the middle of the night. Nobody is sleeping well. Not only that but she's afraid to sleep at anyone else's house (including my parents house) because I won't be there for her to sleep with. I am so tired and sore from sleeping with her. How can I get my husband to help me move her to her bed and how can I get her to understand she's a big girl and needs to sleep in her own bed?

Answer
Man that is a hard one. My advice probably will be frowned upon but from what I hear about you and your husband, maybe the best thing to do (only as a transition) is to get a small bed and put it in your room (while keeping her bed in her bedroom).

This time enforce it and make her sleep in the small bed in your bedroom when and only when she comes in after trying to sleep in her own bed. It must be enforced.

Then work on the âbig girlâ âlittle girlâ theme for a while⦠maybe even a few months. Iâd make the small bed somewhat undesirable little by little placing things on it, maybe not having a pillow. Maybe some rules that certain things in her own bedroom canât be taken into your room.

Then I would work real hard to make her bedroom as desirable as possible.

That is a real wimpy solution but letâs face it you guys are wimpy parents.

If the bed is out of the question, I think it falls on your shoulders, mom. This isnât a âsharedâ solution. Next time she comes in, take her back to her room and you lay there with her until she goes to sleep. And yeah, eventually you will toughen up, but if this is a shared solution you and your hubby will just be arguing whose turn it is. Let her know there is only one focus and that is mom and the âonlyâ solution is mom in her bedroom. My guess if you do this latter suggestion and âstick to itâ then it will be solved in less than two months.

After reading the Italian ice story below, I came up with a third solution.

Tell her youâll buy her a Ford Mustang if she stays in her room. My guess is that within the next nine years sheâll be sleeping in her own room.

Another bribe⦠I did this with one of our daughters. This bribe is probably more expensive than the car. We got her a cat to sleep with. The cat wouldnât sleep with her all night so she started closing the door. If I had to get up in the middle of the night to got to the bathroom, I would open her door and the cat would zoom past like it was being chased by a dog. Now that I think about it⦠thatâs probably inhumane. If they had an answer board for cats back then she was probably posting, âHelp! Iâm being over loved by a human kid!â

What are some cute ideas for my wall in my room?

Courteney

im a sophomore in high school & i used to have TONS of pictures people made me all over my wall, but those were all from freshman year & i want something more "older" but i still want it to be involved with my friends. any ideas would help! thanks :)

Answer
I am a major in fashion and design and i will tell you from my experience that using black against another color gives a more mature look to it, and picture frames also do. Dont have everything scattered around your room either, if you want to put up pictures of your friends, put them all in one section. Another popular style for kids your age is zebra, and knowing my daughter who is a junior, she likes to have more of the zebra and black and white theme. also hanging lights make your room look more elegant.

Do you think a pink polka dot themed room is childish?

z

I'm 16. Is that too stupid? I was gonna do pink zebra instead, but someone told me it would look like a little kid room. Is polka dots any better? it so, you got any better ideas?

Answer
Pink and black zebra stripes would look cool. I'd just do whatever you like, even if it looks childish. Guys like 'innocent' girls!

Teen boy bedroom decorating ideas?

little boys bedroom decor
on designs that inspire to create your perfect home
little boys bedroom decor image

KP

I am looking for ideas on decorating a teen boy's bedroom in a video gamer style/theme room, but I don't have any ideas on how to do this. Does anyone have any good ideas? What colors would be best to use? What types of decorating items could I use? Thanks!

Answer
Well to start with a gaming teen boy will most likely not care what his decor is, unless it directly affects his gaming, or is game related... (well none that I have met care anyway) so I wouldn't go toooo far with decorating, leave the walls neutral, and put these up, I know it is old now, but they're so old they're now retro kitsch
space invaders wall decals (they also come in pacman) http://www.patriciafield.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=354
Unfortunately this thing is only avail in eastern europe, but WOW! http://blog.wired.com/gadgets/images/2007/10/18/2battleprobig_2.jpg
back to reality though, for bedding I'd just use a totally plain cover that will wear well, the focus isn't about a bed cover in this room, so patterns or designs would be overbearing, unless of course he finds one he is crazy about??
For some great gaming seating target has lots but check this one out, its a sound lounger that is compatible with any audio device... http://www.target.com/Blue-Pyramat-Sound-Lounger-PM550/dp/B00069FEZ6/sr=1-2/qid=1216943582/ref=sr_1_2/602-9342378-8675002?ie=UTF8&index=target&field-original-keywords=Pyramat%20PM220%20Sound%20Rocker&rh=k%3Apyramat%20pm550%20sound%20rocker&page=1
but target has other gaming seating that is pretty cool... http://www.target.com/Video-Game-Furniture-Games-Electronics/b/602-9342378-8675002?ie=UTF8&node=13921431
and for console and games storage there are these two..

For all your other furniture I still think IKEA covers everything teens need, http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/categories/departments/youth_room but to suit your theme, I'd start with the gaming accessories and then match the furniture, bedding and walls etc, for a cool take though, these lighting strips look fantastic (and if he's gaming overhead light isn't a great idea) http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50119407
I'd also use something like the tupplur roll blind to block out light, http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/categories/departments/youth_room/10701/
and these glass globes look fantastic alone or on top of a little ikea light (can't remember its name but glass globe and light cost me about $20 together) and really look amazing in a darkened room.. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/90065662
Other than that, I'd be trying to find some posters of his favorite games, not making the room too bright, and here are a few other smaller ideas to accessorise the room (retro again but he may be too young to appreciate it??) http://www.fredflare.com/customer/product.php?productid=3714&cat=254

and last but not least, how tech savvy are you? because the score board is fantastic, but requires a bit of skill (and money) to do... (you'll have to scroll down) http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,1935015,00.asp

Where can I find Toy Story decor for my little girl, preferably Jessie?

Kaye

My 2 year-old daughter loves all the Toy Story movies; we watch all 3 literally everyday. She has the "real" Jessie and Buzz toys and makes them kiss all the time. I really want to do her room in Toy Story but everything is clearly for little boys. Has anyone seen any Toy Story girl bedding, curtains, or anything at all? I already have the wall stickers, but that seems to be the only thing available in the USA. Fabric would be great too because I sew and would be able to just make her a sheet set and quilt if I could find Jessie fabric.

Answer
How do you feel about ebay? I found Jessie items there including a brand new whole bedding set, dresser drawer pulls , light switch covers, a sheet ( used but you could make a cute curtain for her room ) , pillow case here are a couple of links ....But remember to keep checking there cause new stuff comes up all the time !

Marcy

I have a fairly large room and I'm 13 and im kinda tired of my old design. I've had it sense 4th grade haha. I cant get any new furniture though. I have cherry wood furniture. I kinda like cottage looking things so I'm contemplating aging my furniture... What are some design tips if you have any? Or links to picture would be amazing!!

Thank you! xoxo

Answer

What color should I paint my room?

Julia

Ok so tomorrow I'll be officially living in my new house. I'm getting my room completely f redone. It's kind of a small room. There's a closet with wooden doors that slide open. I have two windows with black curtains. My bed spread consists of 1 dark pink pillow, 2 zebra print pillows, pink sheets, black thick blanket, and a cheetah print one that goes on top of the thick black one. The border of my room is wood, same with around the windows. Im 13 BTW. All of my furniture matches. What color should I paint it?:

Furniture: http://m.biglots.com/mt/www.biglots.com/p/c/bedroom-sets/ameriwood-cherry-finish-bedroom-collection

*I have the bed, and drawer with 4 drawers, if that helps?!.:)

Answer
I check the link that you offer, if your funiture like this, you need use some light color, not dark color to paint your room, as you said, your room is a little small, so how about using some light torquise color or some light purple color to make the wall be fresh and cool. It is also can well match with your home decor. Then the curtain I think it will be pure white is better, it will let your room feel spacious. Then add area rugs to make the floor cozy, use crochet table cloth and table runner to make the desk delicate, by the way, here is a webstore on amazon, it has many pretty home decor, hope can help you.

Im a home decor freak I like color coordinating my bedroom. I'm moving out next month to my own apartment and I'm looking for stuff to but for my bedroom. The picture is some of the stuff I have so far. The walls are white and the carpet is tan. My bed stuff is mostly red, purple and orange. My chair is brown with a purple pillow.

What I need to know is what color should my curtains and rug be since I know I don't want anymore red or purple. I was thinking adding a sage green rug, curtains and night stand would help balance the color scheme in the room. My mom thinks otherwise and says that the nightstand, curtains, and rug should be brown like my chair. What do you think?

Answer
if you already have carpet, why do you need a rug? try to cut down on the number of accessories because that it's easier to pair fewer colors.

depends on the material of the sage green. it sounds like a wonderful idea, but can you test it in your room to see how it goes with your current "red stuff?"

Does anyone have any neat\chaep ideas to make my place look unique?

Rachael C

I have been painting my walls and really spiffing up my measly 2 bedroom home. Truth be told its kinda a dump.Does anyone have any ideas on some cool, cheap, unique ways to really personalize it. I am fine with painting the walls and stuff. I have a really hippie style and i want to incorporate that in to my home. If you know of any website with hippie ideas of just have some yourself let me know.

Answer
OK, Pick your colors(4)
primary
secondary and
two accents
Determine what wood or metal tone to use.
Like dark wood, white painted wood, or light natural wood
Metal - bronze, stainless shiny or brushed, or gold shiny or brushed.

Shop yard sales, salvation army stores, thrift shops, curbside tosses.

Focus on one area at a time, while considering the collection of stuf you have & don't over decorate because you may well find something later that will fit in that space quite well.

Say one empty corner . . find a chair of sometype, straight chair, box ottomon, upholstered (avoid - bugs) add a small table - could be a crate covered or painted, could be another ottomon, put a 18 inch tile on top they cost a couple of dollars. add decorations you like not too much
Get some Modpodge at walmart or hobby lobby
and colorful napkins & tissue paper. Take cups vases, furniture, picture frames nearly anything can be covered with modpodge to make it funky.
I have some big plastic subway cups that are covered with beautiful napkins that I use for flowers that fit perfect in my decor. The stuff makes it water proof & is FUN to decorate with.
You can coordinate anything.

You can take long pcs of ribbon , tie beads along the way & tie them to a narrow wood or plastic rod
& make a doorway cover or a wall hanging. cover plastic to-go lids with napkin/tissue & modpodge to make discs to make a wall/door hanging.
I could go on & on . . but you get the idea . .

Gather stuff you like and decorate this wall - that corner - this area 10 minute decorating in each space & add as you go along. . . .it works

How can I style this new room?

devon d

Currently, it has hideous yellow walls and marble white tile. It has a queen sized bed and some other furniture. I am allowed to paint the walls, put new accessories/decor up, and get new bedspreads. I like the color scheme white and purple but I don't know if it would be overkill with the floors. What kind of color schemes/themes do you think would look good? The floors cannot be changed.

Answer
Purple and white are amazing colors for a bedroom.
Either the walls are purple and the bedding white or the other way around.
A purple room can be casual or very sophisticated.

How do I make the room my boyfriend and I share more "manly"?

Alex

My boyfriend and I share a room, and when we first moved in we painted it a teal-ish color that we both picked out. We love the color and it really gives the room more "life" (it was just plain white before), but I've kind of put furniture and stuff in there and he always mentions that the room doesn't feel like his room because of all I've done to it (I like quotes and pictures so I've put up some motivational/love quotes and hung Christmas lights around the room.) How can I make the room more "manly" and feel more like his room too and not just mine?

I love to be crafty so hit me with anything you've got!
Thanks all!

Answer
You can start with the colors. If you guys like the teal color, go with a dark blue and white colors around the room. You can even go a chocolate brown and light cream say in bedsheets/comforter, framing for pictures or wall decor that share the same colors.
Also, keep things neat and clean edges. For some reason, I have noticed men like geometric shapes. As well for bold thick lines.
I gave some photos below for ideas.

What color should I paint my bedroom walls and bedding?

Carolyna

Okay. So I am a 13 year old girl with a bedroom that I had my dad paint when I was in 4th grade (so you can probably guess what color it is). I live in a cottage looking house and my bedroom has a skylight so I want pretty earthy colors but I also have a real flair for art and I need a creative looking and feeling place for me to paint and write so I don't want to have a basic colored room. So please creative thoughts!

Answer
Well so if you dont have any Bedding (if youre changing it) you should try Wake up Frankie.com
they have really cool and hip Bedding... Lets say you have to have an idea on bedding so you know what color paint would go with it...The color of youre room really depends on what you have, what you want, and YOURE STYLE!! Dont paint youre room a color that you like. Paint it a color that you LOVE!!! Some earthy colors i would suggest is maybe a not to pale green, Baby blue,Light brown,or Sunshine yellow..If i were you I would probably get a Mirral painted on one of youre walls.

If you have no idea what a mirral is.. well heres youre answer: Its a drawing of anything (you choose what you want off of a picture, youre favorite drawing, etc.) so it can be anything you want! then you just have a painter paint what you want on the wall..

Good Luck... Hoped it Helped...!! :)

What are some cute ideas for my new apartment?

Q. I'm going off to college this fall, and I'm living in a student housing type apartment. I'll be living with 3 other girls, but my own bedroom will be about 10x12. It already comes with a full size bed, armoire, desk, and nightstand. What are some themes and cute things I can do to decorate my room? Where would I find pictures of dorm-like examples?

Answer
HGTV always has great ideas and videos you can watch.
I like to decorate with fashion aswell as function in mind meaning that since your in school you can find ways that will be stylish aswell as helpful.

Throw some wall shelves and some memo boards in your place and it's a good way to display pics aswell as leave important notes that you might forget when walking out the door. If your thinking about color always go with the 60/30/10 rule..can't go wrong with that..and like i said HGTV.com you can dabble with 60/30/10 color schemes.

check it out and good luck.!

Carnival Victory?

I am currently planning a cruise to the Southern Caribbean and this one seems to fit the bill. However, I am in my 30's and my parents are going with some friends and they have the impression that Carnival is a huge party line. We are looking at going Jan/Feb of 2009. Any comments on this topic would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
The people concerned about the "party" atmosphere are in their late 60's and 70's.

Answer
Carnival does still have the reputation as a party line, even though they've been working hard to dispell that.

In January and early February [before President's Week] you'll have an "older" crowd than normal, with fewer families and kids. There will probably be a range of ages from twenties through 50s, I'd guess. Cruisers who prefer a classier, more up-scale cruise wouldn't sail with Carnival, nor would the majority of cruisers over 50.

Another factor to consider is that, sailing from Puerto Rico, there is likely to be a sizable contingent of "locals", as the cruise lines offer deals to "locals" [whether in Florida, NYC or anywhere else] to fill up the ship. The cultural differences [manners, etc] may bother some people and not others. San Juan is also not always the easiest airport to use. Make sure you allow plenty of time before your flight home.

The Victory hasn't gotten stellar reviews in the last year or so, some people saying she's starting to show her age. My first cruise was on the Victory [when she was brand-new] and it got me "hooked" on cruising. Carnival isn't everyone's style - the glitzy decor and "party" atmosphere in the dining room [singing/dancing wait staff] is appealing to some people but annoying to others.

Overall, I'd say Carnival is a good first cruise. The Southern Caribbean is an interesting itinerary, but there are a lot of port days, which means more expense [for shore excursions] and less time to just enjoy the relaxation of the ship [sea days].

You can get lots of good info on all aspects of cruising, from experienced cruisers, at CruiseCritic.com. Click on "Boards", then go to whatever topic interests you. You might also want to click on "Reviews" and read, especially, the "Member Reviews".

Hope this helps!

Is the color pink childish to paint a 19 year old woman's bed room?

Brooke Pre

So, I have been needing to paint my room for a while, it was cream but it looked like a dirty-ish cream to me, so I went out and brought some really expensive paint, and on the label the paint looked like a really pale light pink but when I opened it, it was slightly darker kind of like a bubblegum pink looking color, I wanted white I don't know why I picked this up but I can't return it I lost the recite (sp?) so I'm just going to give it a try, it pink really kiddish for a 19 year old girl? my room is modern looking I have 2 artificial 5ft palm trees in there, Canvases of NYC, white Victorian blinds... would pink walls kill the classy look? thanx

Answer
Nothing wrong with pink for any age. Personally pink would not be my first choice, but I'd take it over white.

What's going to make the room look childish or not is the way you pull it together.

You know what really looks gorgeous and sophisticated? Pink and chocolate brown, or pink with black accents.

As you can see, pink is feminine but it doesn't have to be childish.
